(Look)/Song for Children (also known as "I Ran" and "Untitled Song #1") is an incomplete musical piece that was composed by American musician Brian Wilson for the Beach Boys' aborted Smile album. Wilson produced the backing track at the start of the Smile sessions in August 1966. It is theorized that a missing session tape may have contained a vocal track that he recorded with his bandmates in October. In 2004, Wilson rerecorded the track as "Song for Children", with new lyrics written by Van Dyke Parks, for his album Brian Wilson Presents Smile, where it segues between the songs "Wonderful" and "Child Is Father of the Man"

Hello! Welcome to the Doubleplusgood Tribute to Brian Wilson & Sly Stone. The first hour or so will dedicated to Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys, and the second to Sly Stone
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:02:43 PM
Hello
Lizbot (host) 5:03:43 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland 🦀!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:04:22 PM
Hiya Lizbot
Lizbot (host) 5:06:04 PM
@Rob - I spent the greater part of Tuesday evening assembling a new habitat for Fripp, the Crimson-Bellied Conure, and to make him feel more at ease, he has received many watermelon bribes
Lizbot (host) 5:07:03 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - It's officially too hot in Philly to hang in the yard these past couple of days, so I don't know what the catbirds are up to, but I plan on reconvening with them this Saturday when the temperatures take a dive
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:09:16 PM
We were listening to KEXP last hour, which is having a 27 hour Protect Public Radio marathon, with the same two djs for all 27 hours. One of the djs called the General Manager at WMMT in Whitesburg KY, a community station that would be severely affected by the recision bill in Congress right now (recision = stopping the flow of already appropriated money).
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:10:41 PM
I looked at the General Manager's bio, and she was dj Peppermint Pig here at WPRB!
Pengy 5:11:02 PM
Rest in Peace Brian Wilson. Great songs for a fitting hot as heck summer day
Lizbot (host) 5:11:06 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Oh yes, I know! I've stayed in touch with Peppa/Teddy and subscribe to WMMT. Their mascot is an excellent possum. Peppa is awesome.
Readie Righteous 5:11:52 PM
Hey Lizbot! What a sad week! Sly & Brian - loving these tunes!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:12:11 PM
@Lizbot, cool cool cool
Lizbot (host) 5:12:16 PM
Hello Pengy! Yeah, for real. Feels like Official Summer now! I have been enjoying my Beach Boys deep dive prepping for the show. These songs never get old. Still so much fun
Lizbot (host) 5:12:27 PM
Hi Readie Righteous! I know! It's crazy!
Lizbot (host) 5:13:11 PM
@Readie Righteous - I thought of you and how you sing along to Sly & The Family Stone as soon as I heard the news about Sly
Lizbot (host) 5:14:04 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - There's a big independent radio conference in Utah right now where the future of funding indie stations is the big subject
Pengy 5:14:09 PM
I'm dancing along don't worry. And may steal a few of these classics for my own summer playlists. Excited for the set.
Readie Righteous 5:14:12 PM
Aww, yeah, Lizbot! Soundtrack of my young life!!
Lizbot (host) 5:15:53 PM
@Pengy - I love it! Glad you're dancing! Go ahead and play all the BB/Brian all summer long!
Readie Righteous 5:16:56 PM
So many of Sly & Beach Boys tunes were classic SUMMER fare!
Lizbot (host) 5:17:44 PM
This part is CHURCH
Lizbot (host) 5:18:43 PM
@Readie Righteous - EXACTLY! Feels sad but also kind of perfect timing for a celebration of their lives and music that they both passed at the kick-off of summer
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:20:17 PM
@Lizbot, I bet Fripp is really happy with his new digs. And, I bet the catbirds are still there when it cools down
Ossy 5:21:37 PM
Hi Liz!
Readie Righteous 5:21:43 PM
That is amazing, Lizbot! Both 82 years old...both influenced countless musicians, both led rough lives...and what a legacy they left us!!!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:21:49 PM
@Lizbot, I bet they are following events in DC. The KEXP djs announced that the recision bill had passed the house and was on its way to the Senate 😡😡
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:22:10 PM

Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:22:26 PM
Hey, y'all! I see/hear it's all Beach Boys! I have to chat on my phone because the chat app isn't letting me sign in on my laptop. 😥 This has happened on my phone a few times but not on my laptop.
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:23:12 PM
Hi FME and RR and everyone
Readie Righteous 5:23:15 PM
Paul McCartney said this album (Pet Sounds) lit a fire under the Beatles' butts to get moving - and then Sgt. Pepper was born.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:16 PM
Hello Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly)!

@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, the catbirds WILL NEVER LEAVE ME. There will be there forever, and ever, and ever. Forever squawking. Forever taunting. The catbirds live inside my head!
Readie Righteous 5:24:23 PM
Hey Rob, FME, Ossy, & Pengy!!

Van Kapeghian 5:26:04 PM
Howdy everybody
Lizbot (host) 5:26:05 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Oh no! I pretty much always have to log in to the chat twice in rapid succession for it to work on my phone. I use google to do it
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:26:39 PM
But might not happen because there might be thunderstorms in downtown DC. We'll probably go birding away from the city on Saturday morning
Ossy 5:26:41 PM
liz - the rich life of a voicy actor!
Readie Righteous 5:26:47 PM
😎 ❣️❣️
Lizbot (host) 5:27:09 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Oh definitely. There are some WPRB ppl at the conference. It's a big topic. It's so bad. We'll be okay I think since we're not federally funded, but so many great stations will be severely affected!
Ossy 5:28:27 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:29:22 PM
@Ossy - RIP Roberta! I remember that news this past winter. So many greats passing!
Readie Righteous 5:29:33 PM
An assault on the arts and so much more...actions on Saturday at a lot of towns across the USA
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:29:50 PM
@Liz So I'm not the only one who has a problem with the chat!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 5:30:22 PM
@Lizbot, Téa/Teddy/Peppa said that roughly 35% or more of WMMT's budget is from federal funds
Readie Righteous 5:31:04 PM
Hey FME - I also have to continuously log back in on phone & desktop.
Robin Mohr 5:32:25 PM
California girl in Philly. Thank you!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:33:50 PM
I hope WPRB will fix the buggy chat app soon!

Cali gal here too!
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:34:29 PM
Dog wagging tail = good vibes! 🐶🐾💯
Ossy 5:35:09 PM
Liz - Ikr? Roberta Flack is so cute and that philly wdas station did a magical lovely tribute to her, months back! So many other legends lost like Roy Ayers, Angie Stone, Chris Jaspen of the Isley Bros, Frankie Beverly and legendary Quincy and James Earl Jones etc
Ossy 5:36:50 PM
If you heard of modern artist, Andra Day, she tribute Roberta of her classic "Killing Me Softly" on the BET Awards, few days ago
Lizbot (host) 5:37:56 PM
Hello Robin Mohr! Happy to pay tribute! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:58 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Ha! Yeah, The Catbirds Live Inside My Head I might reserve as the title for my memoir!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:45 PM
Hello Van Kapeghian! I missed you in there! Seeing you know scrolling back down after my mic break!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:03 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - No, it's a common issue! I wish it wasn't. I'm just used to logging in twice to get it to work.
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 5:43:57 PM
@Liz I'm going to try that next time!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:04 PM
@Ossy - Oh, I'll have to check out Andra Day's version of Killing Me Softly! Such a classic!
Lizbot (host) 5:44:35 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) -Yeah, it's been an issue for a while. I wish there was a simple way to fix it.
Lizbot (host) 5:45:43 PM
@Ossy - Oh I wish I'd caught WDAS' tribute to Roberta Flack! Love Roy Ayers! SO many legends
G Jax 5:47:02 PM
You think I would've been here a lot more beach boys in the radio today. And I haven't until now thank you for doing this. Brian was a big deal.
Lizbot (host) 5:47:06 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - I LOVE the story that Good Vibrations is about Brian's dog! I think of that and my dog's pure unadulterated joy every time I hear it!
John Coffey 5:47:52 PM
Hi Liz, big Boys Boys fan in my early teen age years when Endless Summer came out but quickly outgrew them for Alice Cooper and David Bowie. Rediscovered them years later with Pet Sounds, Surfs Up and Smile diving deeper into less known songs. Now I got to listen to Holland.
Lizbot (host) 5:48:12 PM
@Rob from Maryland 🦀 - Yeah, that's rough. I've been hearing dispatches from the Utah conference. It's so awful. That's the case for so many great stations
Lizbot (host) 5:48:33 PM
Hi love this chill intro to this song...
Lizbot (host) 5:48:40 PM
Hi John Coffey!
John Coffey 5:48:46 PM
Ack, Big "Beach Boys" fan.
Lizbot (host) 5:49:15 PM
Hi G Jax! Yeah, you'd think! I'm happy to pay tribute! This music is so undeniably great
Pengy 5:49:47 PM
The way my grin slowly grew as I started to recognize this one
Lizbot (host) 5:50:34 PM
For all the Cali girls in the chat!
G Jax 5:51:02 PM
Yeah, like John said and the summer was my big introduction and I wore it out. And then left it for other hard rock and all that stuff and I came back to it and and a lot more. My favorite Beach boys record actually is a sunflower. Some Dennis Wilson stuff on there that is really cool
G Jax 5:51:11 PM
Endless
Lizbot (host) 5:52:18 PM
@Pengy - haha, I know! That Cali Girls intro fools me every time!! It's so pretty and chill and then I get chills when the instantly recognizable riff comes in
Lizbot (host) 5:53:03 PM
@G Jax - Sunflower is great. I don't know if I'll get to any of it today, but maybe!
Lizbot (host) 5:53:53 PM
Another gorgeous Brian song/ This one makes me think of his mental health struggles
Pengy 5:54:41 PM
...Oh goodness I'm literally staring at my ceiling and connecting with this song.
Ossy 5:54:50 PM
liz - yeah, ain't a summer without "gone but not forgotten" series, especially featuring your philly's own Phyllis Hyman!!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:17 PM
@John Coffey - Yeah, I loved them as a kid and then Kokomo came out and I didn't like that song (I blame the movie "Cocktail",) and I moved away from Beach Boys for a while. Rediscovered them in my 20s and was shocked by the depth of emotion and the complex song structures
Lizbot (host) 5:55:33 PM
This song KILLS me
Readie Righteous 5:55:45 PM
One of my faves, as my young self in my own room tortured teen angst
Lizbot (host) 5:57:16 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:13:40 PM
Hi George Washington!
Joe m 6:14:14 PM
Great show Lizbot! Hello George!
Robin Mohr 6:14:54 PM
Finally got home. Just dreamy to listen to the Beach Boys in my car by the river.
George Washington 6:15:27 PM
I rejoice as Sly and Brian join me in the great surf above!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:07 PM
Hello Joe M! THanks!
Joe m 6:16:13 PM
George Washington - why not surf across the Delaware on the Christmas attack on the Hessians? Why boats?
Lizbot (host) 6:17:05 PM
Hi Robin Mohr! - oooh, sounds like a nice sunny drive! Feels like the right way to kick off summer to pay tribute to Brian
Joe m 6:17:39 PM
I really loved the Beach Boys. Pet Sounds obviously is such an incredible thing, and the isolated vocal version of that album is just otherworldly.
Lizbot (host) 6:17:58 PM
@George Washington - Catch a [celestial] wave and you're sitting on top of the world, looking down at us celebrating this music!
Joe m 6:18:49 PM
I hold a very dear place in my heart for Smiley Smile. I love how weird it is. When I heard that it felt almost like proto ween.
George Washington 6:19:14 PM
Trust me Joe, we tried hanging loose cross the Delly - the beach break was just too gnarly for me and the boys...
Joe m 6:19:39 PM
I feel like the album released as unfinished kinda felt like you could see the strings in the songwriting/recording process a little. Which was fascinating
George Washington 6:20:31 PM
@Lizbot Shaka Brah
Joe m 6:21:08 PM
I forget how gnarly that river gets around Lambertville.
Lizbot (host) 6:21:40 PM
@Joe m - Brian's vocals are chillingly beautiful! Of course Pet Sounds is sublime, but nearly 40 years later, he still sounds pretty great on Smile
Joe m 6:22:57 PM
I am resisting the urge to ask you a bunch of tactical questions George. You must get that stuff all the time.
George Washington 6:23:23 PM
30 foot high bombs crashing all over Lambertville..
George Washington 6:24:09 PM
Wish I could go back and finally prove myself to Martha, alas..
Lizbot (host) 6:24:37 PM
@Joe m - omg, you're right! it has major Ween essence! Like Mollusk era.
George Washington 6:25:08 PM
"I am the spirit of the first president. Ask Me Anything.
Lizbot (host) 6:25:29 PM
@George Washington - I had no idea it was even possible to attempt surfing on the Delware, but I'd be psyched if I was crossing the bridge and saw someone attempt it!
George Washington 6:26:35 PM
If only the skimboard and mechanized pullies were invented back then... *sigh*
Joe m 6:27:19 PM
A lot of those poor soldiers wanted to go goofy foot but got trench foot instead.
G Jax 6:28:26 PM
damn just realized today that Brian is a Gemini. That might explain some things..
George Washington 6:28:28 PM
Ha! Buncha kooks.
G Jax 6:29:07 PM
Geminis are nuts. I should know I am one. I am so Gemini, Brian Wilson died on my actual birthday.
Lizbot (host) 6:29:57 PM
@G Jax - oh wow. Well, Happy Birthday!
G Jax 6:31:16 PM
Thanks Liz. Older than dirt but I keep going.
Joe m 6:31:49 PM
Happy birthday G Jax!
Readie Righteous 6:32:11 PM
oh wow, Happy B-day, G Jaz!
G Jax 6:32:14 PM
Thanks Joe mmmm

Pengy 6:35:29 PM

G Jax 6:36:34 PM

G Jax 6:36:41 PM

G Jax 6:38:00 PM
Which I never really thought much of either but my wife has made me painfully aware of how crazy we are. Ha ha ha it's a running joke with us. But hey, she's a Taurus something to keep me tethered.
Ted 6:42:25 PM
A couple of years ago I met Mike Love at Muhammad Ali’s old training camp in Deer Lake PA. Mike was not in a good mood. Oh well. I met Ali there back around 1971 and he was more gracious. Obscure location for my celebrity encounters.
Lizbot (host) 6:42:40 PM
Hi Ted!
Joe m 6:44:40 PM
Was Mike love training?
Lizbot (host) 6:44:47 PM
@Ted - oh weird. I think I'd rather meet Muhammad Ali! I've heard some Mike Love is not the Love-liest person, allegedly! I know he played a certain person's inauguration! To quote Belle & Sebastian from their song "I Love My Car": "I can EVEN find it in my heard to love Mike Love"
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 6:45:48 PM
I missed over half of the chat. Got stuck doing admin stuff.
michael gudgeon 6:45:50 PM
YESSS LOVE THIS SONG!
Ted 6:46:51 PM
Glad it wasn’t just me! Mike was visiting the camp during a BB tour cuz he loves boxing apparently.
Ossy 6:47:27 PM
Sorry of that unfortunate encounter of Mike Love, but awesome legendary you met Ali
Lizbot (host) 6:47:38 PM
@michael gudgeon - It's sooo good!
Lizbot (host) 6:48:20 PM
@Ted - Huh, weirdly fitting. Heard a lot of stories of Mike Love figuratively sparring with Brian over the direction of the band
Lizbot (host) 6:49:07 PM
@Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) - Missed you here, but no worries! I am still catching up on the chat after the last mic break!
G Jax 6:49:47 PM
A lot of kids I grew up with met Ali. He lived in Cherry Hill for a time in the early 70s. Totally cool with all the kids. I never met him unfortunately I remember my dad drove by and showed me his house.. that's where Cassius Clay lives son
Joe m 6:49:51 PM
Imagine being in a band with the guy who wrote pet Sounds and being even like "Hey, I have an idea!"
Lizbot (host) 6:50:09 PM
@G Jax - I'm a Fourth of July baby, and that has its own challenges! Often times I just let the surrounding fireworks and neighborhood BBQs stand in for my bday party!
Lizbot (host) 6:50:36 PM
@Joe m- HA!
G Jax 6:50:56 PM
Born on the Fourth of July that's cool. Yeah I always thought kids that birthdays felt like an actual holiday. Kind of got gypped.
Ted 6:51:00 PM
Robert Fripp was nicer than Mike!
Lizbot (host) 6:52:05 PM
@G Jax - I READ about that! SO crazy to me since I grew up in nearby Haddonfield and my mom taught in Cherry Hill in the 60s and early 70s. I looked up that house before!
Ossy 6:52:31 PM
A friend of mine lives near Ali's house in Cherry Hill
Lizbot (host) 6:52:45 PM
@G Jax - My mom lied to told me the fireworks were for my birthday when I was little
Joe m 6:53:05 PM
There's some good pizza in Cherry Hill.
Lizbot (host) 6:53:16 PM
@Ossy - What's it look like these days? Gonna have to drive by it some time. I probably have and didn't even realize it
G Jax 6:53:31 PM
Where did your mom teach? I went to.Sharp, then Beck then CH East
Lizbot (host) 6:53:36 PM
@Joe M - What's yr favorite Cherry Hill pizza? I grew up on Penn Pizza Palace and Lamberti's
Lizbot (host) 6:53:57 PM
@G Jax - Old Orchard School, an elementary school that's long gone!
Joe m 6:54:23 PM
Low key, the tomato pie at Croce's near the golden triangle! But dont tell anyone I like the short lines!
Ossy 6:54:25 PM
Liz - Never been there yet, but, here's images https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=b9039e3016f1e9d6&rlz=1C1GCEU_enUS1166US1166&q=cherry+hill+muhammad+ali&udm=2&fbs=AIIjpHxU7SXXniUZfeShr2fp4giZ1Y6MJ25_tmWITc7uy4KIeqDdErwP5rACeJAty2zADJjYuUnSkczEhozYdaq1wZrEheAY38UjnRKVLYFDREDmzxDQH5cf73Nv5SUwLly1WG2RRTz5Zp2Uvco3Dr76giEv7KoLdER8DerohCvE5WYq8IvfNQRQHkwcsZAmUfFI3CBSx3HjRSebGup2eLjFz8thpHIe2Q&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiXjpGx_OyNAxUVFFkFHV2kLdwQtKgLegQIGBAB&biw=1033&bih=850&dpr=1
Ossy 6:55:03 PM
and love the Cherry Hill mall, it's the main attraction!
G Jax 6:55:06 PM
Hmmmm I never heard of old Orchard school. But I grew up in the old Orchard section of Cherry Hill. But there was a lot of elementary schools. I'm guessing the school you're speaking of had to be on the west side because I pretty much knew who the elementary schools were on the east side
G Jax 6:55:40 PM
Sharp school was on old Orchard Road. And that was the elementary school I went to.
Joe m 6:56:38 PM
Sometimes going to the Cherry Hill mall feels like walking into a David Lynch Larp.
Joe m 6:57:44 PM
So Americana and unsettling and scary but bright.
Ossy 6:58:22 PM
even bigger than moorestown mall, except doesn't have a built in theater
Lizbot (host) 6:58:43 PM
@Joe M - mmm, i gotta try that...I THINK my mom has picked it up before. She's still in the neighborhood
G Jax 6:58:49 PM
I grew up in Cherry Hill, but the mall we went to when I was in like junior high and early high school was the echelon mall. It was actually closer to where I lived in the Cherry Hill one. It's not even a mall anymore though.
Lizbot (host) 6:59:00 PM
@Ossy - Supposedly Oldest mall in America, or at least that's what I was always told!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:40 PM
@G Jax - I know at the time my mom said a lot of the families still actually worked on the orchards and kids would often not come in during harvest seasons
G Jax 7:00:58 PM
Yeah, we used to watch them spray the orchards on Cropwell Road. Crowell Road as matter fact was still dirt road at the time. I assume you know where Cropwell Road is being from Hanfield
Fried Monkey Eggs (Monkey Jelly) 7:01:20 PM
This chat is poppin'! 😁
Joe m 7:02:31 PM
George Washington - Ever been to the Cherry Hill mall? Was it around way back when
G Jax 7:02:39 PM
Please try to avoid what looks like bad spelling. I'm speaking into this as I'm driving. Period. I feel like I always have to make this disclaimer. Otherwise it looks like illiterate.
Ossy 7:03:30 PM
I recall there was another cherry hill mall in burlington, but has long since shut down years ago
G Jax 7:04:06 PM
There was more than one Cherry Hill mall?
Ossy 7:05:29 PM
I think so, more or less, but that one was smaller
G Jax 7:06:00 PM
Even though I'm from Cherry Hill, the mall we went to when I was in like junior high in early high school was the echelon mall. It was actually closer to my house than the Cherry Hill mall was and you kinda have to go where the parents are gonna take ya.
Ossy 7:06:19 PM
Never mind, was mistaken, it was burlington county mall, that's no longer active https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burlington_Center_Mall
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:06:47 PM
LOVE Everyday People!!
Joe m 7:07:12 PM
Anyone ever go to a Jersey Knights hockey game? Sounded like a wild league.
G Jax 7:07:18 PM
I know there's more than one Washington Township in New Jersey. Maybe George can clear that up is George Washington still here?
Lizbot (host) 7:07:20 PM
@G Jax - A lot of my friends went to Cherry Hill East, but in the 80s & 90s
G Jax 7:08:08 PM
I was out in 82
Ossy 7:08:15 PM
I heard the remix reggae-like and hip hop version of Everyday People by Arrested Development, but reveresed as People Everyday
Lizbot (host) 7:08:21 PM
@Ossy - The M. Ali house still looks how I remember it, unless those photos on google results are old! I remember looking it up years ago and looking at that pool!
Jon Danas 7:08:22 PM
Blasting in Hatboro PA! Thanks 4 great tunes
Jon Danas 7:09:17 PM
Liz bot! Everybody is a Star!
Ossy 7:09:19 PM
Sing A Simple Song fits for a theme for Bill Cosby's Fat Albert show!
Lizbot (host) 7:09:29 PM
@G Jax - haha, my mom could tell you exactly where Old Orchard School was in CH, but I don't know. It was before I was born. She's in her mid-80s and she was there mostly in the early 60s, then lived in London for the rest of her 20s, then returned
Lizbot (host) 7:10:20 PM
Hello Jon Danas! Glad you're digging the tunes! My grandmom lived in Hatboro a long time ago!
Rob from Maryland 🦀 7:11:09 PM
LOVE "Life" also! :-D
Lizbot (host) 7:11:39 PM
@G Jax - You mightve been in school with my older brother's best friend's siblings, but probably not, since I don't think they moved to Cherry Hill until more like '85. Joyce Weaver and her brother...whose name I forget!...Wade? Weaver.
Readie Righteous 7:11:40 PM
