Radio Free NJ BUT ITS EVANESCENT

Mar 29, 2025 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Music

With evanescent

Totally different and completely the same. First hour dedicated to European disco of the 70s and 80s. Second hour is Brit Pop beyond Blur and Oasis. It is generally accepted that the Britpop of the 90s was an overcoming of the obvious crisis of ideas in pop music of the early 90s, an overcoming by rethinking the great legacy of the Beatles. However, it was not only England that was strangled by nostalgia for popular music with an intelligent human face, for melody and meaningfulness. The secnd hour will be devoted to the mid-90s, bypassing the well-known leaders Blur and Oasis, and we will start with the Swedish Cardigans, who independently resurrected the traditions of the 60s in the same 1994, which is considered the beginning of Britpop in England.

evanescent (host) 8:06:43 AM
good morning!
Rob from Maryland 8:07:57 AM
I altered my plans when I heard you say at the start of your show about playing Britpop
evanescent (host) 8:08:10 AM
eheheh
evanescent (host) 8:08:26 AM
iwould die for emmerdale acutally
evanescent (host) 8:08:40 AM
first band on the moon
Rob from Maryland 8:09:07 AM
I had been getting ready to go birding, but I was late leaving the house and I hadn't decided where to go and I was not fully awake.
Rob from Maryland 8:09:59 AM
So when I heard you say Britpop in an hour, I was like hell yeah
evanescent (host) 8:10:21 AM
the birds will miss you
evanescent (host) 8:10:34 AM
but brittpop would miss you more!
Rob from Maryland 8:10:38 AM
First bird on the moon
Rob from Maryland 8:11:04 AM
I know, and I'm not as familiar as I should be
evanescent (host) 8:11:29 AM
not as familiar with the birds or britpop?
Rob from Maryland 8:16:37 AM
Britpop. I'm totally familiar with birds!
Rob from Maryland 8:17:04 AM
And people are seeing birds along the rivers. But, they are not hearing Britpop
Rob from Maryland 8:18:10 AM
Are you taking requests?
evanescent (host) 8:18:36 AM
britpop could be its own wavelength
evanescent (host) 8:18:40 AM
well yes
evanescent (host) 8:18:46 AM
send in requests
Rob from Maryland 8:20:04 AM
Could you play Echobelly's "Call Me Names"?
evanescent (host) 8:24:01 AM
is this the right track?
Jim 8:30:00 AM
Croooow souuuundtraaaack
Rob from Maryland 8:30:20 AM
Yes, thanks! Some 30 years ago a latina dj at the local college station said on air that she saw Echobelly live and when they played this song she almost or actually cried in recognition
evanescent (host) 8:31:35 AM
thats beautiful
evanescent (host) 8:32:02 AM
i went to see japanese breakfast in nyc last week and a good number of my friends were crying during Kokomo, IN
evanescent (host) 8:32:21 AM
i just know that song will make them emotional forever now
Rob from Maryland 8:32:53 AM
*when she heard the lines "I've been scrubbing at my skin, you see/ But the colour remains on me"
evanescent (host) 8:33:16 AM
terrifying line
evanescent (host) 8:33:36 AM
jim yessss
evanescent (host) 8:33:59 AM
time baby iii is so gorgeous
Rob from Maryland 8:35:59 AM
terrifying indeed. then she said on the next mic break that a guy had called the station and berated her for saying (thinking) that kind of thing. I then called up the station and told her I supported her 150% in what she said and how she felt
Rob from Maryland 8:37:05 AM
I recently purchased the Japanese Breakfast Jubilee CD but I haven't listened to it yet. I will certainly listen to Kokomo IN after your show
evanescent (host) 8:38:32 AM
what an evil thing to do. opening up during mic breaks and talking about yourself and your music into the void is scary enough. so much effort put into being mean. im glad that you were looking out for her
evanescent (host) 8:39:07 AM
yes kokomo is beautiful, that entire album, in fact, is pretty darn good. she also just released a new album!
Rob from Maryland 8:43:55 AM
The B & S song sounds kind of fuzzy though
evanescent (host) 8:44:24 AM
hmmm, the fuzzy sound might just be the sound quality
evanescent (host) 8:45:29 AM
the divine comedy is so good
evanescent (host) 8:45:46 AM
(◑‿◐)
Rob from Maryland 8:47:24 AM
It does sound good. Btw and this is NOT a request, I love love love Belle and Sebastian's Lazy Line Painter Jane
Rob from Maryland 8:49:31 AM
This Pulp song sounds distorted too. Are you by chance playing it on the same device you played the B & S song on?
evanescent (host) 8:49:39 AM
rob you really are a prehistoric fossil because the vast scale of music you have saved in your memory is beyond human capabilities
evanescent (host) 8:50:00 AM
yeah, since i'm subbing i'm using my laptop
evanescent (host) 8:50:05 AM
sorry about that!
Rob from Maryland 8:51:02 AM
well you know the Cambrian Kids Remember stickers are about me and my wife 😇
evanescent (host) 8:51:43 AM

evanescent (host) 8:54:45 AM
yayyyy
Rob from Maryland 8:54:54 AM
I should buy all the stickers on that page. My wife has a patch on a backpack. Maybe I'll put a sticker on my binoculars
Rob from Maryland 8:56:10 AM
Or on my spotting scope. I used to have a Flipside Fanzine (a now-defunct crucial punk zine) sticker on an earlier scope back in the 80s
evanescent (host) 8:56:15 AM
they are hella cute. i would get some for my little siblings
Rob from Maryland 8:57:33 AM
Do it!
Rob from Maryland 8:59:04 AM
Anyhoo, this last hour has been fantastic. Thank you for playing my request! Have a great weekend and hopefully I'll catch the start of your Membership Drive special!
evanescent (host) 9:00:16 AM
