Habitat Enrichment

Jan 23, 2025 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Music

With Krista

Habitat Enrichment is the concept of introducing novelty to an animal's enclosure to keep it from getting bored or sad. Let me play you something fun. Genres span world and time, just like a cat with a box to play in.

Some specialties you can usually hear a little on my show: Luk Thuong, 60s crooners, cow punk, and synthwave. If you don't like the song currently playing, wait approximately 2 minutes for something else!

ahhhhhh it's 10 am

I've got a couple raging songs about Neptune and then we'll go from there

good morning, Harry and TAndy
Colin 10:04:17 AM
I was wondering when habitat was gonna be on. does 10am feel like the night shift?
Krista (host) 10:05:55 AM
it does today, I was at the ER all night last night with my 1 year old baby. She's got a nasty cold and had to get steroids, nebulizer, etc so today I'm running on fumes
Colin 10:09:47 AM
oh no!! sending good juju to the kiddo.
Krista (host) 10:12:32 AM
thanks Colin, she's doing well now and back to her cheery self
Harry 10:12:35 AM
Oh no! I hope your 1 yo feels better soon!!
Newtown Bike Works 10:14:47 AM
Loving the new time slot. We always lamented when Habitat Enrichment ended at 10am, just when we open for business. Our customers are gonna love it, whether they like it or not. Hope everything is cool with your child.
Krista (host) 10:16:42 AM
Thanks everyone, she has perked up! I'm grateful to have good healthcare nearby even as rural as I am
Krista (host) 10:25:00 AM
Rivie the baby really loves dancing to House Of Skulls so she must be feeling great
Brian D 10:25:16 AM
JUDAS PRIEST!
Brian D 10:25:29 AM
a bit of an ouch without the Hellion intro but oh well
Krista (host) 10:26:05 AM
this one's off Screaming for Vengeance, is there a different intro? I just have this CD
Brian D 10:26:30 AM
The Hellion is the track before it. The 2 are always performed as one and played on radio as one usually
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:26:39 AM
@ Krista (host) Much health to your little one and happiness/calm to her mom.
Brian D 10:27:22 AM
Without it, it sounds like a harsh cut it because of the way the segued the 2 tracks without any silence between them
Brian D 10:31:52 AM
Read one of Rob Halford's books last year. Gotta read the other one sometime. He spins a good yarn. Such a powerful lead singer.
Krista (host) 10:32:01 AM
I'll make a note on the cd, Brian, good advice
Brian D 10:34:15 AM
Ya ever since that lp those 2 were the main set openers for their shows. Very classic intro to set the stage
Krista (host) 10:35:49 AM
my first memory of them is the subliminal messages trial in the early 1990s
Krista (host) 10:36:22 AM
I was very young and the TV made crazy claims that they could hypnotize people into doing crimes and I thought even then, "that sounds awesome"
Brian D 10:39:04 AM
So sad that actually went to trial and Rob had to go on the stand and sing (really belted out the words on mic on the witness stand!!) just because of misguided , brainwashed people. He (like many singers over the decades) would take in a quick rush of breath before a line. Somehow that whooshhhh of breath played backwards with a snippet of word or 2 sounded like something to these nuts. Sad.
Brian D 10:41:23 AM
The idea that a band would promote itself by wanting its own fans to harm themselves or worse is a strange promotion tactic. And to mask it backwards with a rush of breath backwards.... whew. Bands are probably more concerned with playing, planning tours, recording, flying, riding in buses, eating, sleeping, living their livest etc.
Krista (host) 10:47:22 AM
the whole idea that people can be subliminally influenced to do things is total nonsense. Now that i'm reading about the trial as an adult it was a total literal witch hunt
Brian D 10:49:01 AM
People in denial and confusion when maybe all that was needed was listening to their kids, nurturing their kids, reaching out to their kids etc etc... Nope, blame the freaky rock band types, not oneselves
Krista (host) 10:51:32 AM
never blame the restrictive, shame based upbringing. blame rock music!!!
Li Maria 10:59:44 AM
Good morning! Wow, what a story about the horse and the snake. I just had a dream last night about a baby snake being torn to shreds and consumed mid-air by a swarm of wasps
Krista (host) 11:00:13 AM
Slick visited you in your dreams, Li Maria
Bryon Mollica 11:00:35 AM
Dammit I missed the 1st hour. Glad for the move
Ossy 11:00:53 AM
morning kris
Ossy 11:01:44 AM
and yes from last week, enjoy hunter rubber boots when rainy spring comes, haha
Li Maria 11:03:02 AM
@Krista--Slick sure sounds like he was a pistol!
Krista (host) 11:03:25 AM
also Li Maria i hope that's a good omen and not a portent of the year of the snake to come
Mike Lupica 11:04:11 AM
New Shilpa Ray = 🔥🔥🔥
Mike Lupica 11:04:21 AM
But really, all Shilpa Ray = 🔥🔥🔥
Li Maria 11:04:44 AM
It's the year of the snake!? In that case, I hope it's a good omen, too
David Shortell 11:04:51 AM
Someone in the band said that if the Manchurian Candidate science fiction trope of subliminal hypnosis was really possible, they certainly wouldn’t make their customers kill themselves. They’d instruct them to buy more Judas Priest records!
Krista (host) 11:04:58 AM
hey ossy, bryon, li maria and richard and Mike
Brian D 11:05:26 AM
After washing a couple of our grey blankets/sheets the other day I made a dryer lint mouse scupture. My wife and I will usually just cup the lint in hands, form it a bit, and show each other, jokingly petting it calling it a mouse. But this one I really stretched out a tail, formed some ears. Nice little guy.
Krista (host) 11:07:33 AM
that's adorable, Brian D. My son made a mouse house at first grade and they had to write a story about the mouse. Other children's stories had mice celebrating Christmas or baking cookies. Meyer's mouse faced a series of gruesome accidents "based on real life" because the teacher dropped his mouse on the way to this desk
Li Maria 11:07:47 AM
haha--that one's a keeper @Brian D. I'd prefer that to the real ones I occasionally get in my basement
Mike Lupica 11:07:56 AM
@David, if only the band Great White had been as wise as Judas Priest.
Brian D 11:08:44 AM
I always enjoyed the various mouse (And their cousins) books as a kid in the 70s (Stuart..., Frisby & NIMH etc)
Krista (host) 11:12:37 AM
Mouse and the Motorcycle was my favorite as a kid
David Shortell 11:14:31 AM
Also, Tucker from George Selden’s “The Cricket in Times Square” and its sequels.
Brian D 11:15:18 AM
Richard Scarry had some great critters. Set in the urban world and others
Krista (host) 11:16:43 AM
of course, Redwall
Krista (host) 11:17:05 AM
I've been fixated on making a perfect hot root soup. the recipe I found online doesn't seem very good
David Shortell 11:18:16 AM
As for that Judas Priest trial, is there any doubt the kid who botched his suicide was the inspiration for the character “Arseface” from Garth Ennis’ “Preacher”?
Krista (host) 11:23:24 AM
I never read Preacher but Crossed was so viscerally gross that of course I read it all
Krista (host) 11:24:37 AM
I don't think I could stomach those comics now that I've had kids (my brain chemistry changed to where I have a hard time watching or seeing violence whereas before that I was a bit jaded from working on the ambulance)
David Shortell 11:39:13 AM
I read Alan Moore’s sequel “Crossed +100”. Well done, but it left me sickened long after reading.
Newtown Bike Works 11:39:19 AM
Clydesdale is also the term for a cyclist who's over 200 pounds...The More You Know.
Krista (host) 11:45:37 AM
haha omg Newtown Bike Works
Krista (host) 11:46:13 AM
I think I weigh that with my 2 kids in the weehoo trailer
Krista (host) 11:46:25 AM
they should call me that because I'm the draft horse pulling the kids along
Colin 11:57:49 AM
enjoyed the show! till next time
Krista (host) 11:58:41 AM
thanks Colin
Li Maria 11:59:47 AM
Thanks for all the music and horse talk, Krista!
