Set Break: How to transplant livers? Soon and with delicate refrigeration

Livers must be transplanted within 12 hours with current refrigeration methods

But supercooling livers might help them last longer ex vivo; we just need to prevent certain kinds of damage that make them harder for recipient bodies to accept

Set Break: Wind-driven sea currents are still not quite understood

A 1905 theory stated that winds forced ocean currents to turn left in the Southern Hemisphere and right in the Northern Hemisphere

But a buoy in the Bay of Bengal has found a counterexample! Northern Hemisphere sea currents forced by monsoon winds that rotate in the opposite direction

Squirrels that hibernate for 6-8 months seem to suppress neural activity around thirsty organs

"Subfornical organ" neurons are much less active during hibernation, preventing the body from telling the brain how thirsty it is

Dale Hazelton 7:17:09 AM
good morning. liking the stuff that suggests jean michel jarre..

Good morning Dale! I will proceed, then, in a free-association sense

There will be no end to our rotation-induced rotation!
Dale Hazelton 8:03:43 AM
do they map the currents at sea bottom as well as at the surface? are they always changing or are they fairly regular like an air convection current would be in a closed room?
DJ AskTheQuestion 8:05:20 AM
Great question! I think we have limited information on undersea currents. this buoy measured 115 m down where the total ocean depth was 3300 m

Jamie 8:36:25 AM
Morning friend! I've just recently started getting back into software defined radio - any interesting radio research recently? And, any local groups to know about?
Dale Hazelton 8:38:03 AM

Dale Hazelton 8:38:28 AM

DJ AskTheQuestion 8:40:41 AM
Good morning Jamie! I have sooo much to learn about that
DJ AskTheQuestion 8:42:04 AM
Pretended to be locked in a basement ! Or actually was!! I am bewildered
Jamie 8:42:26 AM
Haha same! I just listened to this lecture and the second half was 50% over my head, but it was super interesting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI0qXPqufBY
Dale Hazelton 8:46:47 AM
always intrigued by sdr but i have a couple of decent shortwave radios. i do go onto the netherlands website where y9ou can select a radio to control and listen to.
Amy Lee 8:48:06 AM
I'm happy to have trained those around me to stop & think before sharing a 'news' item. I feel my barrage of who, what, where, purpose, ownership, etc, has helped educate my coworkers....who are educators (sigh).

SDR seems like a whole world I have known nothing about
DJ AskTheQuestion 8:54:14 AM
Amy, power to you!! Though that fact is very concerning. And I will be a Luddite about ChatGPT making all of this very, very much worse
Pat G. 9:09:42 AM
It’s soooo fresh!
Amy Lee 9:25:15 AM
I'm an expert at watching the squirrels in my yard.
Dale Hazelton 9:26:57 AM
squirrels always jump up onto my birdbath for a fountain beverage but it's frozen solid right now. a bit of a disappointment for them.
Amy Lee 9:43:45 AM
Oh great. Another plant to add to the list & master growing in my imaginary greenhouse.
Dale Hazelton 9:45:07 AM
catnip grows wild in a pot outside my front door and keeps seeding itself. i've always wanted to brew it.

Re: tea, I wish I knew how to avoid that caffeine withdrawal headache. Because of that, I need a regular fix of caffeine.
DJ AskTheQuestion 9:46:45 AM
I used to take caffeine breaks roughly every wintertime for a month or so. But I haven't the past few years. I embrace the extra physical dependence
DJ AskTheQuestion 9:47:21 AM
Maybe we can grow tea in small patches? I don't care about profit, just the joy of success
DJ AskTheQuestion 9:47:30 AM
Is catnip delicious?? or drinkable?
Norman Burnosky 9:48:14 AM
catnip is minty (in the mint family) and is in commercial teas too
DJ AskTheQuestion 9:49:13 AM
The more you know! thanks!
Dale Hazelton 9:50:57 AM
catnip tea is supposed to be good for digestion.
