@Bud Burroughs - Maybe once...maaaaany years ago. I wasn't that into that soundtrack, but I think my opinion of it was colored by not liking the film very much. I haven't heard it in a long time and should revisit it probably - the soundtrack, not the film!

@Bud Burroughs - yeaaah, that's part of the problem with the movie, and frankly so many film adaptations of books. Of course some are great, but this one and, around the same time I read and then watched the adaptation of "The Trial," the 1962 one by Orson Welles with Anthony Perkins as Josef K, and it WAS good, but it just didn't match what I had in my head when reading that book, and I loved The Trial when I was a teen because I was a mopey teen who liked mopey books

Right, I rarely want to watch a film of a book that I enjoyed, because it's usually a disappointment.

@Bud Burroughs - Yeah, I mean there are many exceptions, but it's like, the more you loved the book, the more of the risk of disappointment it is to watch the film adaptation!

For such a sweet, poppy sounding song this message is surprisingly dark but relatable

@Bud Burroughs - One of my exceptions where I read the book first, adored it, and then watched the movie and adored that too is author Marilynne Robinson's "Housekeeping," which Bill Forsyth (director of cult movies Local Hero and Gregory's Girl,) made into a film in '87. It wasn't well known and not a lot of people saw it. There weren't many well-known actors in it. Gregory's Girl was a bit of a cult hit I think largely because it starred Clare Grogan of Altered Images.

@Bud Burroughs - The best-known actress in Housekeeping is Christine Lahti, and she's great, but she wasn't exactly a household name

@.Fräncis - Thanks, yeah, it's kind of a moody show for the first half, and then it's gonna turn more upbeat for the 2nd half! Kinda alienating anyone who wasn't down with the moody vibes, but rewarding those who stick around! - The moodier part is during the sun, and then upbeat part kicks in as the sun sets and darkness sets in...maybe striking a balance?

The first time I heard of him was very early in the history of Doubleplusgood because the station got an excellent 2-disc Swedish psych/garage/songwriter compilation on the Dolores Records label in 2003 called Who Will Buy These Wonderful Evils? and his Deadweight on Velveteen song was on it, along with a lot of other good stuff

@Danosaur🦖- oh yeah, I think I would definitely dig Zero 7 then! I love Stereolab, that's one of my favorite bands. So many WPRB DJs were at their reunion at Union Transfer about 5 years ago, me included. I saw them in the late 90s and early - mid-2000s, thankfully got to experience them before the untimely and tragic death of Mary Hansen. I love so much how Mary and laetitia Sadier's voices play off each other

@ROffle - oh GOD. I get itchy just remembering those awful tri-corner hats we had to wear while marching on hot football fields! We had marching band camp in AUGUST and they made us wear those evil wool uniforms for competitions in the summer!

@Danosaur🦖 - ughhh. I didn't even really mind the marching or the music we played. The music was the highlight, the marching was tolerable. Most of it occurred in the fall during high school football system - but that was the MAIN problem - having to attend EVERY home AND away football game. I could not have cared less about my high school's football team, but we of course played at halftime
