Is there any connection between Peetie Wheatstraw and the Rudy Ray Moore movie "Petey Wheatstraw"?

There seems to be some disagreement about whether the musician originated the name or whether he adopted a black folklore name that already was in circulation

He was credited as "The Devil's Son-in-Law" or "The High Sheriff in Hell" on his records

Short answer -- probably a connection!

There's a whole chapter about Louis Prima in Nick Tosches' "Unsung Heroes of Rock 'n' Roll". A New Jersey rockabilly trio called the Junk Rumblers plays the song his orangutan character sang in the 1967 animated Disney feature “The Jungle Book”.

The first version I ever heard of that Willie Dixon composition “You Shook Me” was on the Jeff Beck Group’s “Truth” album”. The next year, those second-rate Jeff Beck Group imitators Led Zeppelin released their own version.

For my money Muddy's version remains definitive!

“Built For Comfort” is one of the songs I remember Willie Dixon sang in his TV special I saw in the 80’s.

I've never seen the special!
