@ Sonny Boy III Lovin' the Bowie and Hendrix tracks! Perfect for Esoterica -subbing.
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 12:25:28 PM
:)
Richard of Rocky Hill 12:40:36 PM
And I loved the two versions of "Muleskinner Blues." Very impressive that the very young Bob Dylan tried to sing in a genre-authentic low blues voice -- and IMHO, he succeeded wonderfully. But I was _much_ less impressed by recordist Karen Wallace's "vocalizations." Sorry, but none of the info and insights she was trying to impart to a friend (to whom, it seems, she was going to send the tape) justified her commenting periodically over Dylan's performance. GHEEESH!!!
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 12:41:19 PM
I agree Richard... I wonder if there's a cleaner version out there in circulation
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 12:41:29 PM
This was pressed on Vinyl somewhere in Europe in 2018
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 12:41:35 PM
Turned up at PREX
Richard of Rocky Hill 12:51:17 PM
@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) Maybe it could be like the latest (and last?) of the recent post-Beatles releases that were created from John Lennon cassette demos ... for "Now and Then," for example, the producers were able to filter out sounds from a living room TV set in the background. But here, with Ms. Wallace right on top of the microphone, it might be an exponentially bigger challenge.
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 1:14:25 PM
I'd buy it richard!
Richard of Rocky Hill 1:23:26 PM
Me too! Seriously!! :-))
Richard of Rocky Hill 1:24:09 PM
Hey, thanks for playing Bill & Charlie Monroe. Always awesome.
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 1:28:09 PM
Of course!
Richard of Rocky Hill 2:48:23 PM
Peetie Wheatstraw's "Gangster's Blues" is a terrific period piece, the popular music eqivalent of a late 1930s-early '40s James Cagney or Edward G. Robinson movie about "bad guys."
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 2:48:54 PM
With Lil Armstrong on piano apparently!

Thanks also for the East Texas Serenaders cut. Who else but R. Crumb, as talented a 78s collector as he is a cartoonist, would find that one?
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 2:57:46 PM
:) that cd came in the back of a book that anthologized is illustrations for a series of trading cards made for record stores and the like back in the day

Richard of Rocky Hill 2:59:36 PM
And while i'm dishing the superlatives ... I'd rather hear Joseph Spence scat-mumble than most people straight sing!
Richard of Rocky Hill 2:59:55 PM
Great show, thanks!
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 3:00:21 PM
I'm with you on Spence! And thank you!
