TAndy 10:04:07 AM
Hey!! Congrats for everything, sir!
Li Maria 10:05:39 AM
Wow--you've been busy, SBWIII! Congrats on all fronts! Great to hear you again
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:08:48 AM
Thanks to you both! Very happy to be back on the air! :)
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:27:46 AM
@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) Welcome back, SBW3rd! And you're hitting out of the park during your return to bat. :-))
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:30:19 AM
@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) I'll admit, I'd never heard Tiny Bradshaw's version of "Train Kept A-Rollin'." It's pretty much identical to the 1960s hit version by the Yardbirds (also used in the Antonioni movie Blowup, yes?)
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:32:01 AM
Hi Richard! Thank you -- and I owe you an email response.
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:32:32 AM
There's a good episode of the podcast "A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs" on "Train Kept A-Rollin"
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:33:30 AM
I've never seen Blow-Up!
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:34:31 AM
Ah, you gave the history during mic break. Very interesting about the pioneering use of distortion in a later recorded cover. Alas, I'm thinking Bradshaw and other Black musicians never copyrighted their versions, leaving the door open to later appropriation -- even though admiring -- by Yardbirds and Aerosmith.
Lance Gardner 10:36:04 AM
Glad to have you back! I need my blues fix
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:38:16 AM
@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) In Blowup, the protagonist, a photographer in swinging 1960s London, wanders into a rock music club. The Yardbirds, in their Jeff Beck era lineup, are on stage. What happens is a very surreal and powerful little episode. I'm pretty sure they're playing "Train Kept A-Rollin'" although it might have been "Smokestack Lightnin' " ... I gotta check -- and see Blowup again!
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:42:45 AM
It's on my to-watch list!
DJ HOG wprb 10:44:20 AM
happy first show SBWIII !
Richard of Rocky Hill 10:46:13 AM
Hi DJ Hog and, well, everyone during this glorious Blues, Off the Record Bak on the 'PRB Schedule. :-))
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 10:52:24 AM
Thanks all!
TAndy 11:02:35 AM
Heya DJ Hog, Richard, Lance, and Li! The shore is perfect today. Breezy, warm, and not at all crowded.
TAndy 11:02:54 AM
Blues, OFF the Record, just makes today even better.
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:10:39 AM
@TAndy Hey there! Life's a beach, hope you shore enjoy it. ;-))
Marcus Watt 11:30:15 AM
Outstanding show. Thanks.
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:34:40 AM
Ah, bliss! The Holy Modal Rounders version of "Fishing Blues." I just loved those guys. The world's first & greatest psychedelic old-timey music band! Peter Stampfel (fiddle) is still around and still doin' it. His latest project: setting philosophical maxims of the ancient Stoics to music. (Really!)
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:36:20 AM
Had no idea about him and the Stoics. Marcus Aurelius meets Henry Thomas.
Richard of Rocky Hill 11:43:41 AM
@ Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) Ha! The Stoics thing is something new. I interviewed Stampfel a few weeks back and afterward he played/sang a few of them. Really wonderful. Hope he records them soon. :-))
TAndy 11:51:01 AM
HUGE thanks for the show, SBW-III! So glad to have you back on between DJ ABQ and Dan B, Mondays are made for mindful music 😎
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:51:50 AM
Thanks TAndy
Sonny Boy Williamson III (host) 11:56:32 AM
