Opening with Homestuck music is such a POWER move

Just playing some brave little music to keep the night monsters away, don't mind me

I miss staying up late and getting engrossed in reading homestuck/wiki stuff when I was REALLY into it like 12 years ago

oh, it's a cover of THAT song lol

The new management at Homestuck 2 is actually doing a pretty rockin' job, but the corpus isn't overwhelming in that late-night binge kinda way

The epilogue is probably relevant; the rest could be skippable if one wanted to cut to the chase

I only ever read one half of the epilogue, but they intertwine so tightly that you kinda get a sense of the other one

I understand that the Meat ending is the "official" ending, if I'm correct.

I think they kind of both are? And maybe there are versions of characters from each one that show up? But honestly I'd need a wiki and a reread to untangle it all

I do think the SNES RPG ones live the most rent-free in my head and heart

In particular the song at the very end of Secret of Mana that plays over the sprite looking off into the distance from the mana tree

I can get that. The SNES soundchip has such a magical sound that I haven't heard replicated anywhere else. It's not just the composition and songwriting that goes into it, either.

That reverb that's everpresent on a lot of OST for the system is iconic in its own rite.

An EXTREMELY close second choice would be from the original Klonoa game.

What did you like about it? And Yoshi?

Yoshi for the same reason the FFVI choice struck me. The pure SNES sound and the way that the piece has a definite sound of closure for a game that felt so long, and spanned across so many memorable locales and challenges.

For Klonoa mainly due to the heavy emotional weight the ending slaps you with out of nowhere, when you get to play it.

Did you play Yoshi pre-emulator? Like, did you beat it on original hardware?

I first played and beat it on the GBA rerelease, but never on SNES.

I do have it on my 3DS Virtual Console via the injector so I'll play it that way if I do again.

I cannot imagine beating it without save states -- such a hard game!!

This is really making me want to check this game out. I doubt I'd ever have the patience to play it, though.

A streamer I watch absolutely loved this game and no doubt has at least one playthrough VOD of it, so I'll go that way if I need to.

Secret of Mana?

I found it super engaging, but I'm a sucker for action RPGs generally

They're so easy to pick and play

For me it's less playability and more I just never feel like sitting down and playing games anymore, not sure why.

I guess all those times being told "stop playing video games and go outside" as a kid caught up to me 😅
