Around 2001, there was a fusion group led by Jonas Hellborg (bass), with Shawn Lane (guitar) and Selvaganesh (percussion). They performed a concert in Paris, joined by V. Selvaganesh's brothers V. Umashankar and V. Umamahesh. (The three are sons of Vikku Vinayakram, the ghatam player with John McLaughlin's original Shakti). This is a DVD only release.

Since the WPRB barge studio does not have a DVD player, I needed to bring one of my own and patch it into the board. It seems to work. :-)

Frank Zappa - I Promise Not to Come In Your Mouth
Frank Zappa I Promise Not to Come In Your Mouth
Zappa In New York (Live) Frank Zappa Catalog 2012

Frank Zappa has several musical styles. This track fits into his jazz fusion bucket.

There are a few editions of this song. Each varies slightly for no obvious reason. On the CD version I am airing, the horn section is more prominent in the mix, but the guitar solo has been altered from the 1977 LP version. The song was also issued as the title track to the 3-CD set called "Läther" with the original guitar solo, but a muted horn section.

i think I still have a few Derek trucks band recordings from this era. I saw him at the stone pony in 2001 and friends were tapers with a DAT.

this is surprising to me. i thought he just sounded like the allman brothers. i never really looked into him or tedeschi trucks..
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:12:50 AM
Derek Trucks has a deeper talent. Besides the southern blues rock, he also has training in Indian improvisational skills under Ali Akbar Khan
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:13:53 AM
his soloing with the Tedeschi Trucks band has been reduced
TAndy 8:20:06 AM
His band never fails to grab my attention
JoeM 8:22:50 AM
yeah those first few albums from the 90s-00's have some really out there stuff. No one does what he does. And he is so quite and unassuming, physically, even when he's melting your face.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:23:23 AM
Exactly, JoeM, very humble
JoeM 8:23:41 AM

ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:24:44 AM
I've got some, but since I tend to dislike vocals, those releases disappoint me a bit. Some gorgeous moments in them though
Dale Hazelton 8:26:23 AM
this hellborg is great.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:27:19 AM
