One thing I read about the life of Tito Puente that I found very cool is, he studied music formally at the Julliard School in NYC.

You almost have to be super well educated in jazz to make good salsa haha Thanks for sharing Richard!

@ GGB (host) That is so totally true! And I find there's an annoying myth that because jazz, salsa, etc., are "roots musics" its major creators aren't formally trained like classical virtuosi. Not true!

Yes, and not only the case with salsa. Later in the show we have Juan Luis Guerra, who has a degree in jazz composition from Berklee but is known as a Merengue/popular music singer
