kicks off with a toy piano like sound. so full of flute trills! The song "La Perla De Chira" by Yma Sumac is a tribute to Sullana, a city in the northwest of Peru. The lyrics talk about the memories the singer has of her hometown and the things that make it special. She remembers the "marineras" and "palanganas" dances, as well as the rides in canoes during the mornings. She reminisces about the picnics and meals she had with her friends, such as "seco de chavelo" and "estilao de la Simona," and the delicious taste of "claro" beer served in a "chirihuaco" container. She also mentions the different families she visited, such as "casa de la cristina" and "donde bayona," and the women who made an impact on her life, like "mama de la Asunciona." The chorus repeats her longing to return to her homeland and reconnect with her "gallada," or group of friends, to continue the party and relive the good times.

I'm fine, but today I woke up with a crazy headache, and then, to my delight, found my car had been broken into in the night...but broken in isn't quite the word because they didn't smash a window this time. My driver's side door was jimmied open and everything was riffled through and my truck was wide open. Nothing seems to be missing. Creepy.

Lizbot, bummer to hear about your car
Lizbot (host) 5:36:48 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland🦅!
Lizbot (host) 5:37:15 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - You missed the birdsongs! Or maybe you heard them. I played two bird songs near the top of the show
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:37:21 PM
I saw and heard many catbirds today and yesterday. They're baaaack
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:38:03 PM
I did hear the birdsongs, at low volume! Tweet tweet :-)
Lizbot (host) 5:38:32 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - Yeah, it could be a lot worse. My car seems to be functioning fine and they didn't find anything of value. They could've done a lot of damage if it had rained last night since they left the trunk open. Mostly I'm just shaken up, and I fell asleep on the sofa last night so close to where my car was parked
Lizbot (host) 5:39:15 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - Oh YES they are! They were REALLY squeaking hard in my yard yesterday!
Lizbot (host) 5:41:01 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - At sundown on Tuesday one of the catbirds sounded off for a long time, and when it finally stopped, I said to my husband "I guess it's done finally" and then suddenly it popped up 5 feet from me and resumed squeaking! It's like the star of a birdy horror film that's scarier than anything Hitchcock came up with!

Yeooooo BOT! 🤖 🦾 How did I miss my favorite Magma song? 🌋
Rob from Maryland🦅 6:08:37 PM
@Lizbot, this morning I saw a Cape May Warbler (a migrant species in the mid-Atlantic) and yesterday I saw a pair of Baltimore Orioles
Lizbot (host) 6:08:45 PM
Hi jimbooooo!
Lizbot (host) 6:09:38 PM
@jimbooooo - Oh rats! There might be another Magma attahk later in the program if I can fit it in!
Lizbot (host) 6:11:43 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - The birdhouse at the Philadelphia Zoo has this surround-sound "4D experience" where they spritz you with water while showing the migration of a rotund animated oriole, narrated by said oriole. I always went in there to cool off when I used to take Hattie to the birdhouse when she was little.
Lizbot (host) 6:12:36 PM
@jimbooooo - We need more spirituals with complete nonsense words in Kobaian and other made-up languages
jimbooooo 6:13:26 PM
Does the spritzing replicate bird peepee?
Ossy 6:14:27 PM
Hi Space Liz Susan
Lizbot (host) 6:14:59 PM
@jimbooooo - The spritzing happens during what's supposed to be a harrowing thunderstorm that temporarily throws our avian hero off-course, but instead it's a delightful cool misting
Lizbot (host) 6:15:03 PM
Hi Ossy!
jimbooooo 6:15:05 PM
Maybe birds don't pee...maybe a combo excretion deal...
Lizbot (host) 6:15:30 PM
@jimbooooo - I was led to believe the white portion of their "pooP
Lizbot (host) 6:15:43 PM
@jimbooooo - ...is urea or whatever is in bird pee!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:08 PM
How's it going, Ossy? I'm just space-Susaning around here
George Korein 6:16:32 PM
The drumming on this one is 🤘
Lizbot (host) 6:17:16 PM
@George Korein - True! One of my favorite Associates tracks
Lizbot (host) 6:17:54 PM
@George Korein - I wonder if Juana Molina's dad knew Astor Piazzolla personally, at least somewhat, from the tango scene in Argentina
George Korein 6:19:15 PM
I know not, but I’m sure Piazolla loomed large
Lizbot (host) 6:20:18 PM
@jimbooooo - I still think fondly about that dark and largely empty oriole migration theater, built solely to screen that movie every 15 minutes, and how refreshing it was in there after being melted by the sun's rays all day at the zoo on a spring or summer afternoon. It was also always extremely cold in that room.
Lizbot (host) 6:20:49 PM
@George Korein - this is a jaunty piper march of a tango!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:06 PM
@George Korein - I'm sure everyone wanted to play with Piazzolla
Armand H 6:26:35 PM
I'm down at the schuylkill river park, smoked two Jay's, had to get on here to say your set is KILLIN it tonight ! 🫡luv the tunes
Ossy 6:27:21 PM
All space ambience good, Liz!
Lizbot (host) 6:27:31 PM
Hi Armand H!
Lizbot (host) 6:28:04 PM
@Armand H - Thanks! Great day to be down in the Schuylkill River Park!
Lizbot (host) 6:28:21 PM
@Ossy - Glad to hear it!
Armand H 6:31:02 PM
Thanks will do! It's a beautiful day
Rob from Maryland🦅 6:31:42 PM
@Lizbot, that's interesting about the Philly Zoo
Lizbot (host) 6:32:17 PM
@Armand H - I've got sun rays blasting through the window of my studio onto my face, so I'm enjoying this day secondhand!
Lizbot (host) 6:34:25 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - I haven't been there in ages, but when Hattie was little we lived very near the zoo, and we went frequently. Our favorite annual event was Boo at the Zoo where all the kids dressed in costumes, but the best part was all the animals who could eat pumpkin were given whole pumpkins, and the bears used to absolutely love ripping apart the pumpkins and scooping their goop with their paws like Winnie the Pooh with a honey jar
Lizbot (host) 6:37:48 PM

Alex from Media 6:52:28 PM
Hi all, Just joining. Zamfir called to me.
Lizbot (host) 6:52:37 PM
Hi Alex from Media!
Lizbot (host) 6:53:36 PM
@Alex from Media - That was a rollicking Zamfir song! I first heard his music watching Peter Weir's "Picnic at Hanging Rock" in the early 90s. That soundtrack is haunting
Kelly Nielsen 6:54:03 PM
Loved the Yma Sumac and really everything you've been playing. Great show Lizbot!
Alex from Media 6:55:17 PM
@ Lizbot. They would be hawking Zamfir and his pan flute on ads during late night chiller theater in the 70s.
Lizbot (host) 6:55:32 PM
Hi Kelly Nielsen!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:44 PM
@Kelly Nielsen - Thanks! I'm glad you've been enjoying it!
Lizbot (host) 6:56:01 PM
@Alex from Media - haha, true
Lizbot (host) 6:59:29 PM
@Alex from Media - I guess Chilly Billy loved that Night of the Living Dead and all the other George A Romero zombie movies were set near his hometown, enough so that he played those movies all the time. I still get a kick out of the fact John Carpenter's Halloween is set in my hometown, albeit, they changed NJ to Illinois, but Debra Hill, who wrote the script, wanted to leave it as NJ. Officials in my uptight hometown complained!
Alex from Media 7:06:04 PM
@ Lizbot a) Loved all that stuff. b) Town boards got no sense of humor.
Lizbot (host) 7:07:24 PM
@Alex from Media - True. Especially my home town. Pandemonium broke out over someone painting their house purple. I am not kidding, sadly.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:05 PM
@Alex from Media - Debra Hill still got away with calling the town Haddonfield (there is no Haddonfield, Illinois) and featuring her old high school, even if she didn't get to shoot any of the film on location
addie🐍🐍plum 7:11:26 PM

So happy to be here! How are you all?
Lizbot (host) 7:17:47 PM
@addie🐍🐍plum - Yay! It's a beautiful day in Philly/Jersey, but my car got broken into last night!
addie🐍🐍plum 7:18:03 PM
Oh noooo!
Lizbot (host) 7:18:52 PM
@addie🐍🐍plum - yeah...I already woke up feeling weird and lightheaded with a bad headache, then George goes outside and finds my trunk popped, my door jimmied open and the whole car riffled through
addie🐍🐍plum 7:19:13 PM
At least they didn’t break any windows?
Dale Hazelton 7:19:28 PM
hello. good music here.
Lizbot (host) 7:19:41 PM
@Rob from Maryland🦅 - I misread that as scoop up the pumpkin poop at first...I'm sure some zoo employee was tasked with that job later!
Lizbot (host) 7:19:51 PM
Hi Dale Hazelton!
Dale Hazelton 7:20:04 PM
sorry about your car. being violated like that sucks.
addie🐍🐍plum 7:20:06 PM
I had kind of a weird morning, doing my union steward duties, had to sit in on someone being fired.
Lizbot (host) 7:20:25 PM
@Dale Hazelton - Thanks! I am glad you're enjoying the music!
Lizbot (host) 7:20:34 PM
@Dale Hazelton - yeah, it sucks, but could've been worse
Lizbot (host) 7:21:42 PM
@addie🐍🐍plum / Dale Hazelton - They didn't break any windows, thankfully! I've heard from my neighbor that these car fobs can be hacked from afar to unlock cars! I guess you'd have to store the keys in a faraday box at night to avoid that!
Dale Hazelton 7:22:24 PM
had a gps and a shortwave stolen from our car last 4th of july. but to be fair i was drunk and didn't lock it. thieves hit a bunch of cars knowing the cops would be at the area where the fireworks would be to direct traffic.
Lizbot (host) 7:23:02 PM
@Dale Hazelton - It's disturbing. The car was right by my door and I was sleeping on the sofa near that door half the night last night. I hate that feeling
Dale Hazelton 7:23:31 PM
hacking fobs - cyberthieves!
Lizbot (host) 7:23:57 PM
@addie🐍🐍plum - oh no. Great to be part of union duties, but yeah that's rough. It's a pretty but very weird day. I've been having a good time during the show, but kinda out of it all day
Lizbot (host) 7:24:24 PM
@Dale Hazelton - yeah, it's ridiculous! Who has time to remember to pop their car key in a faraday box every night?!
Alex from Media 7:30:06 PM
I really like Juana Molina but her music has the flavor of tapping your leg when you're nervous.
Dale Hazelton 7:31:46 PM
it's like how people used to open garage doors and steal stuff in the day. only so many garage door codes to be had. with today's tech they can probably hack thousands of codes in seconds.
Lizbot (host) 7:32:01 PM
@Alex from Media - hmm, yeah I can see that.
Lizbot (host) 7:33:10 PM
@Alex from Media - I think some music aggravates anxiety and some kind of...complements it, if that makes any sense!
Lizbot (host) 7:35:27 PM
@Dale Hazelton - yeah, unfortunately. I am pretty thorough about checking to make sure doors are locked, but this newer tech doesn't always have our backs! Maybe that's why I don't feel comfortable switching to those key code house locks! I still trust a physical lock. I never lived in a house that had a garage, so I never experience garage break-ins, but probably the only thing of value I'd keep in a garage is bikes. Everything else would be hoses and potting soil and that kind of time.
Alex from Media 7:37:10 PM
@ Lizbot. For clarity her music describes a subconscious state which burns with high energy (that I inhabit). So I'm sympatico and fall right in with it.
Brian D 7:38:03 PM
Love that live Juana. Then seamless Horse Lords. Good stuff
Lizbot (host) 7:38:56 PM
@Alex from Media - ah yeah. Same! She really established a sound that is very much her own!
Lizbot (host) 7:39:14 PM

I joined late... but have to rehash some about Picnic at Hanging rock and Zamfir. I first watched film in Houston in 1980.. watched it 4 times and hosted "Pizza and PAHR parties" I thought I was alone. Hi Don Hamp!
Don Hamp 7:41:36 PM
Trivia. Do you know the actors banded together to fight Peter Weir who wanted to change the ending.... this was decades after the movies release.
Don Hamp 7:42:04 PM
They said the movie was no longer his... but belonged to the world. FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/661779523876633
Lizbot (host) 7:42:12 PM
@Don Hamp - Oh wow! I gotta check that out! I even had a homemade WPRB station ID that samples Picnic at Hanging Rock that my husband and I made in 2020. I showed my daughter PAHR when she was around 12 and she loved it
.Fräncis 7:42:15 PM
Wait - Zamfir - master of the pan flute?? - Like as seen on TV commercials??

Lizbot (host) 7:44:45 PM
@Don Hamp - I picked up the book and never read it. I heard it [at least used to be, I don't know about these days] get assigned often to Australian schoolchildren. I'd image not so much any more, but it was a trend
.Fräncis 7:44:46 PM
Is he the aural equivalent of Bob Ross?
Lizbot (host) 7:45:04 PM
@Don Hamp - Oh I think it very much holds up, but I can't stand the remake
Lizbot (host) 7:47:21 PM
@Brian D - I miss going through those car washes! I used to hit up the Bubble Tunnel on North Broad Street, but then it scratched my car pretty badly. Kinda worth it for the fun automated brushes though! Going through those things and being all the blurred soapy colors of th bushes whirling past you is a bit like the trippy creepy boat scene in Willy Wonka (the original)
Alex from Media 7:47:35 PM
This is from my favorite Bond movie (if we're allowed to like Bond movies anymore).
Lizbot (host) 7:48:07 PM
@.Fräncis - Quite possibly so! I think those ads and Bob Ross would both be seen by kids watching TV in the middle of a weekday while home sick from school!
Andy Wing 7:49:21 PM
Just getting on line, remember the car washes where you could walk along a gallery while your car got towed by a chain drive through the whole shebang?
Lizbot (host) 7:51:00 PM
@Alex from Media - I love You Only Live Twice, A View to a Kill and Live and Let Die...oh, and The Spy Who Loved Me. I grew up with an older brother who loved Bond and controlled which videos we got to rent while our parents went out to eat without us and left us pizza and VHS rental money. Saw all those movies dozens of times. Tanaka and his trick door turning metal slide entrance to his amazing mid-century mod office always blew me away in You Only Live Twice
Lizbot (host) 7:51:21 PM
@Alex from Media - PLUS you can't deny the greatness of the Nancy Sinatra opening song!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:27 PM
Hi Andy Wing!
Lizbot (host) 7:52:00 PM
@Alex from Media - And I love the Little Nellie helicopter in a suitcase scene and the theme music for it
Lizbot (host) 7:52:36 PM
@Andy Wing - oh yes! The carwashes of my childhood! Some you could ride in and some you could walk alongside
Lizbot (host) 7:53:00 PM
@jimboooooo - here's more Magma, as promised a couple hours ago!
Number 6 7:53:16 PM
When I worked at SEPTA I would ride the EL through the wash many times.
Dale Hazelton 7:53:21 PM
@Lisbot - i was eating dinner so couldn't comment. do you have a kia that was supposed to have had a recall? i think it was a tiktok challenge, breaking into kias with a cell phone....
Alex from Media 7:53:22 PM
@ Lizbot, whole sound track is great. I have been known to use Tanaka's line "She is very sexiful" on occasion, to the great confusion of others.
Andy Wing 7:53:54 PM
Hi Liz! We went to the wash at the bottom of Lawrence Rd in Broomall, next to the old Gentilese market.
Lizbot (host) 7:54:13 PM
@Number 6 - oooh, I never thought about train washes! I guess I sort've assumed that was done by hand, but that would be extremely laborious!
Ossy 7:54:16 PM
Great show Liz!
Dale Hazelton 7:54:20 PM
ooph, lizbot...not lisbot...(hiding face in shame).
Lizbot (host) 7:55:04 PM
@Dale Hazelton - i had not heard of that [particularly whack] tiktok challenge! I do not have a kia though. What the heck, ppl of tiktok?!
Dale Hazelton 7:55:06 PM
digging the magma....
Lizbot (host) 7:55:07 PM
Thanks Ossy!
Number 6 7:55:30 PM
@Lizbot,- They do wash the insides by hand, and the outside to some extent.
Lizbot (host) 7:55:32 PM
@Dale Hazelton - haha, no problem! It's lizbot with a lisp!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:07 PM
@Alex from Media- oh my god, I always quote that line! makes me laugh!
Brian D 7:58:12 PM
Ya tonight I did not go for the longer TRIPLE COLOR FOAM BLAST or whatever the d-lux wash was. Just get the pollen and beach air gunk off the car w basic wash... soon to be dirty again thanks to the green tree daily dustings
