A local music producer discover her singing at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh when she was 12 years old, and she went on to have an illustrious career singing folk and Sufi songs. She died in 2013. |

Subramaniam made his first public appearance at age 6. Went on to earn a Master's degree in music and teach South Indian music at Cal Arts. He completed medical training at Madras Medical College and registered as a medical practitioner before leaving for the U.S. He is also the father of Gingger Shankar, Ambi Subramaniam, and Bindu Subramaniam, and a brother of L. Vaidyanathan and L. Shankar. His uncles include Ramnad Raghvan and Ramnad Krishnan. With two mridangam artists: M.N. Chary & Dr. T. Ravi. Javalis are sensuous in nature, as compared to devotional kritis. |

Krishna is a vocalist, writer, activist, and author. He was awarded with the Ramon Magsaysay Award for “his forceful commitment as artist and advocate to art’s power to heal India’s deep social divisions, breaking barriers of caste and class to unleash what music has to offer not just for some but for all”. He composed over 250 krithis, most in Telugu with a few in Sanskrit and Tamil. GNB also invented new ragas. He taught a number of students during his active years. Most famous among them are M. L. Vasanthakumari, Radha-Jayalakshmi duo, Tanjore S. Kalyanaraman, Trichur V. Ramachandran, T. R. Balu, T. S. Balasubramanian, and Ragini. GNB died rather young, at age 56. |
