haunting rendition of strange fruit by nina simone. but then again any version of that song is haunting. I did primary source research on the writer of that song, abel meeropol, years ago. held the one of the early manuscripts of the lyrics in my hands. meeropol also adopted the rosenberg children after their parents were accused of and executed for spying for the soviet union in the 50s

if I remember correctly, Lewis Allen was a pen name he used because of the times (written in 1930s)!

Pen names sure were a thing back then. Cooky contracts and all just to publish in a typical rag mag.

Readie: Your "fort" tree was probably a White Pine, cushy pine "needles" make a nice bed...

My sister and I would climb 3 tall pine trees next to my parents house. We named them after Benjamin Franklin, in order: "Ben", "Ja", and "Min". Recently during a family gathering we climbed them again and got a great picture, despite me accidentally whacking a branch into her face. BAM!

In Washington state it's a lot of spruce trees. Pines not so much.

@Ossy- I didn't make it to PREX that Saturday...I'm sorry I missed meeting you and all the WPRB'ers!

I'm definitely gonna make plans to make the journey to P-town for next year's event..

It was fun adventurous at downtown Princeton and going on the University campus. Saw the famous wprbarge studio in person, in helping out the djs carry their records back to the studio

And that's okay, I too almost would've missed it, due to car sharing on friend's else's last minute change of work schedule with another car
