Centre Pompidou EP 2024

New EP by Verity from Electrelane and Matthew from Wire.

"Commissioned by the Centre Pompidou in Paris earlier this year to create a piece of music in response to an artwork of our choice from their collection. We chose Louise Bourgeois’ 1992 installation ‘Precious Liquids’. This intimate and darkly poetic work ended up inspiring us to create five new tracks for this cassette."

Opening the chat now, going on the radio at the top of the hour...
Dan Wade {2} 5:01:30 PM
Hello Jon, hello everyone
Jon Solomon (host) 5:01:51 PM
Hey hey!
Brian D 5:02:04 PM
GOLD LEADER!!!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:02:15 PM
Brian D!
Frankie Duryea 5:02:47 PM
looking forward to listening to the show !
Jon Solomon (host) 5:03:18 PM
Thanks, Frankie. At the least it should be "on it radio."
Brian D 5:05:54 PM
Angus MacInnes as Jon "Dutch" Vander (aka Gold Leader). Also seen in Atlantic City, Superman II and of course... Strange Brew
Kelly Nielsen 5:07:24 PM
Hi Jon! Hope the music makes you feel better
Brian D 5:08:23 PM
Donating makes one feel like a Gold Leader (that stays on target and does not get shot down by the evil Sith Lord Vader)
Brian D 5:09:24 PM
"I mostly just stayed in and listened to the radio..." - I resembled that quote just about every day 2020 - 2021
Jon Solomon (host) 5:09:52 PM
Being on the radio certainly helps, Kelly but I'm struggling here! Weird stuff. Might call for an Emergency Bath post-show.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:10:19 PM
Good to see you in the chat!
Brian D 5:11:00 PM
Emergency Bath is opening up for Gold Leader yep. Doors at 8
Jon Solomon (host) 5:11:12 PM
Big fan of Gold Leader. Glad to see Angus MacInnes is still with us!
Brian D 5:11:30 PM
I had that same thought as I was lookin roun de webz!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:11:47 PM
I think someone I tangentially know met him at a convention recently?
Brian D 5:11:48 PM
They had his hockey card, see..
pledge.Francis.Commie 5:11:58 PM
Sitting in the parking lot of our practice space listening to this excellent song AGAIN
Jon Solomon (host) 5:12:11 PM
Ha!
pledge.Francis.Commie 5:12:32 PM
I hope it makes you feel better!
Brian D 5:12:59 PM
ooo band pracketice... I am departing soon for that. a certain radio show makes the Wed eve traversings of the Bucks Burbs very tolerable
Chef Emeril Lagasse 5:13:24 PM
BAM get well soon! Cooking up some Tylenol gumbo for ya
Jon Solomon (host) 5:13:26 PM
I suspect not drinking coffee the past two days is another factor.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:13:30 PM
Thanks, chef!
pledge.Francis.Commie 5:14:35 PM
Now Thai cover of the best Chicago song, I will never get to practice
Andy Wing 5:14:47 PM
OK, Mavi Isiklar has some serious competition.
vildachaya1 5:15:25 PM
Yay - this song! Thanks Jon for keeping it fresh
Brian D 5:15:27 PM
Luk Thung forever. Love these comps
Jon Solomon (host) 5:15:27 PM
Andy, was I supposed to let you know when WPRB got something in the mail from you? Because we did. Thank you!
Brian D 5:15:43 PM

Andy Wing 5:17:56 PM
Awesome!
Frankie Duryea 5:19:34 PM
this rocks
Jon Solomon (host) 5:20:20 PM
Real "bring that beat back" payoff for this one.
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:33:58 PM
Howdy howdy
Jon Solomon (host) 5:34:47 PM
Good evening, Rob!
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:35:59 PM
I finally am hearing Dopesmoker, maybe?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:36:01 PM
Yes, I did send this to Captain Ahab as soon as I learned about it...
Jon Solomon (host) 5:36:17 PM
In very non-distorted cover form, yes.
Tyler Blaetz 5:36:22 PM
Haha this is cool
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:36:28 PM
I assume she is amused?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:36:48 PM
I believe so. Almost like Parquet Courts covering Sleep?
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:37:11 PM
Huh. (Goes to look up the band Sleep)
Teresa Peacock 5:38:45 PM
This is really great! It does sound like Parquet Courts covering Sleep (-- I bet PCs are kicking themselves for not thinking of it themselves... )
Jon Solomon (host) 5:39:44 PM
My buddy Ike sent it to me a couple days ago.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:39:54 PM
Not sure how he came to discover it, though.
Teresa Peacock 5:40:48 PM
Good Evening Jon & Co.! @Jon -- Hope you feel better soon. I'm in the midst of a really cruddy cold that starts in the chest and then travels to the nasal sinuses. Blech!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:42:00 PM
Thank you, Teresa. I seem to have a bunch of stuff happening at once. Thought perhaps it was all because I mowed the lawn / trimmed the edges yesterday but usually when that happens I'm better soon thereafter. Today has sort of been a slow roll downhill.
Teresa Peacock 5:45:48 PM
Yeah, the peak allergy season stuff doesn't help any! I've been taking the DayQuil/NyQuil equivalent by Mucinex for the last couple of days and that has kept it in check somewhat.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:46:56 PM
What I didn't expect today along with my headache, if I may speak freely, was all the epic burping.
Teresa Peacock 5:50:00 PM
You are not alone! That happened with my son Julian's version of the family cold too. His became a much more straight-forward upper-respiratory thing on day 2 or 3.
Matty Sabbath 5:51:41 PM
Landowner! Old Connecticut Money! Never met a fellow Landowner fan 🥰
Jon Solomon (host) 5:52:43 PM
I only just made their acquaintance.
Rob from Maryland🦅 5:52:58 PM
I hope that you feel better soon, Jon and Teresa
Matty Sabbath 5:52:59 PM
I used to do some epic burping in Atlanta when I was fond of the beer. 🤣
Matty Sabbath 5:53:37 PM
Jon-- Old Connecticut Money by Landowner is rad. Jittery & postpunky.
Teresa Peacock 5:55:14 PM
@Rob from Maryland -- Thank you! <3 @Matty -- Are Landowner from ol' CT? They're really fun!
Matty Sabbath 5:56:14 PM
Teresa great question, Idk. I think they are on the bandcamp if memory serves.
Matty Sabbath 5:57:40 PM
If only Sleep knew at the time what an impact Dopesmoker would have! An hourlong song made in secluded Mendo County, CA really made a splash.
Matty Sabbath 5:58:51 PM
Dare I say this is anthemic https://landowner.bandcamp.com/track/old-connecticut-money

TAndy, sorry to miss you on Saturday!
TAndy. 6:03:57 PM
Yayaya. Woke up too late for Sleep, but just in time for new METZ
Andrew Gruen 6:05:04 PM
metz were ferocious at underground arts Saturday
Jon Solomon (host) 6:05:22 PM
Oh nice! I saw some friends post photos from NYC. Crowd was going wild.
Matty Sabbath 6:05:30 PM
Yesssssss. I love ferocity.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:07:09 PM
Happy to report my head is clearing.
TAndy. 6:08:19 PM
AAARGH completely forgot about that show...
Matty Sabbath 6:12:47 PM
Enjoying this music from Niger. Jon have you heard Nihiloxica? Ugandan drum/dark ambient group.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:13:00 PM
I have not!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:14:09 PM
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/sep/29/nihiloxica-uk-uganda-tour-visa-restrictions-interview
Matty Sabbath 6:15:20 PM
Oh chit thanks Jon! I have not read any press on Nihiloxica yet. Love The Guardian (usually).
Jon Solomon (host) 6:16:39 PM
Interesting stuff. I'll have to listen.
Matty Sabbath 6:17:24 PM
Super Onze reminds me of the nomadic musics recorded/found on Saharan cellphones. 👍
Jon Solomon (host) 6:18:23 PM
Indeed.
Matty Sabbath 6:29:27 PM
Speaking of Dopesmoker, this is a jam! Need a map a la Dopesmoker 😂
Jon Solomon (host) 6:30:30 PM
It is about 0.5 Dopesmokers (will check my math).
Matty Sabbath 6:31:41 PM
Haaaaaa! There's dark math and then there's dope math
Jon Solomon (host) 6:33:04 PM
It is a shade under 0.5 Dopesmokers.

Jon Solomon (host) 7:05:18 PM
Hope your respective Wednesdays are going nicely.
Em Boro 7:16:12 PM
Hi Jon, it's been awhile since i've tuned in but digging this song
Jon Solomon (host) 7:16:57 PM
Glad to have you on board, Em Boro.
Em Boro 7:19:39 PM
you can call me Em :)
Em Boro 7:20:17 PM
(the chat function requires a last name lol)
Jon Solomon (host) 7:21:46 PM
You got it, Em!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:31:01 PM
Correction from earlier: Seems this was engineered around the time Webb's second record for The Social Registry came out?
Em Boro 7:39:29 PM
how do artists get chosen to play for wprb?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:42:09 PM
You mean live sessions?
Em Boro 7:42:20 PM
yeah!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:42:53 PM
DJ interest / matching dates on the schedule / engineer availability. Back when that set was taped I used to record a band a week. Was not sustainable!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:43:28 PM
Sometimes labels reach out about getting bands in, but it is really up to the respective hosts.
Em Boro 7:44:18 PM
that makes sense, and holy cow, a band a week?!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:44:56 PM
For a couple years there? 2004-2006 was a busy stretch.
Em Boro 7:47:01 PM
that has to an insane archive of live sets omg
Jon Solomon (host) 7:47:08 PM
For me now it is more situational.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:48:22 PM
Close to 300!
Em Boro 7:49:40 PM
i'm in grad school for archiving right now, and that sounds like such a fun collection to organize
Jon Solomon (host) 7:50:12 PM
I've been trying to make sure it is all accounted for the past couple of years.
Em Boro 7:50:20 PM
a wprb live vinyl would go so hard too
Jon Solomon (host) 7:50:45 PM
WPRB does have a stalled reel-to-reel digitization project some grad student could potentially tackle...
Em Boro 7:51:36 PM
someday... this is my first semester so I'm still learning a lot!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:51:50 PM
Ha! Nice.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:52:10 PM
Appreciate you catching the show again. Check in anytime!
TAndy. 7:52:13 PM
Great show today, Jon. Thank you!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:52:23 PM
Thank YOU, TAndy. Heading home to rally!
