@ Mia D. (host) The very first time/place I heard that song was on WPRB ... Sunday nights .. it was the theme song of the 10 p.m. rhythm & blues show ... I'd be doing my high school homework ... late ... hatin' it ... and LOVIN' Screamin' Jay!

Wow!! And too think that I had never heard of Screamin Jay before I picked up his vinyl during this show's prep. That is an awesome story

I'm sorry I never saw Screamin' Jay in concert ... he was a wild man. Came out in a coffin, carried a cane topped with a cigarette-smoking skull .. for real! Google his obituary in the New York Times. A terrific piece of writing, really captures the man.

Well now I really have to start listening to him! What a performer

AND ... if you're hankering for Screamin' Jay on screen (although it's a non-singing role) check out the 1989 movie "Mystery Train" directed by Jim Jarmusch. It's a trilogy of stories of people who come to Memphis (like a young Japanese couple who are making the pilgrimage to Elvis's "Graceland" mansion) and they all stay at the same rundown, cheap fleabag hotel -- and Screamin' Jay is the overnight front desk clerk!
