Hello!
donutage (Bill Cole) 5:04:49 PM
Good evening!
Em 5:07:47 PM
the first lolla was in stanhope????
jwh 5:08:11 PM
Howdy
Em 5:08:38 PM
i'm imagining lolla happening at wild west city LMAO
donutage (Bill Cole) 5:10:17 PM
Amazing story!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:11:49 PM
Thank you, sir. Hello everyone!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:12:37 PM

Brian D 5:13:45 PM
I saw the next one at Waterloo Field in Stanhope (1992). Ministry was fun. I think Lush was on way early and the Pearl Jams. Soundgarden later on. The Seattle bands were all youngins not as well known worldwide. Jim Rose circus. The other Ice (Cube). Headliner was Chili Ps. Was not interested, kept wandering around to various bonfires that kept "breaking out" and then getting doused. Some bands being listed on setlist dot fm on that date were not there... I think they put all possible bands up
GW Carbo 5:13:57 PM
I won a parlour game at the first Lalapalooza. I wanted tickets for the next day ofd the festival. This was before text, email etc. The kid says, let me ask my dad. He waves a guy over...it's Bill Graham! He gives me his card and says the tickets will be at will call for me to pick up in 20 minutes!
Brian D 5:15:21 PM
Back then Lolla was a national tour with many stops (not just in Chicago).
Jon Solomon (host) 5:15:38 PM
GW, that's incredible. Heya Brian!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:16:22 PM
I remember paying for a (delicious) Indian meal in cash and being given more change than I had paid and not being able to explain properly what had occurred so I ended up making five bucks on my dinner.
GW Carbo 5:17:29 PM
Shoreline Ampithetre Redwood City, CA.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:17:30 PM
I think it was 1993 or so at Lollapalooza in Philly a friend somehow got roped into helping make sandwiches for some vendor and next she knew she was going on tour for a couple dates to do the same in other cities. Oh, the 1990s.
GW Carbo 5:19:10 PM
Siouxie and Banshees, Living Color, Body Count, Janes Addiction, Butthole Surfers
Em 5:19:50 PM
thank you for the stanhope pictures, I'll be sure to pass them on to my friend who grew up in stanhope!
Em 5:20:14 PM
its a small town so she gets excited whenever anyone has heard of it lol
Em 5:21:00 PM
lolla in chicago looks so cool but i'm a little nervous about going to a big music festival
Jon Solomon (host) 5:22:53 PM
Someone didn't play that night. Might have been Siouxie. I know Rollins Band was first up.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:23:10 PM
They played a warm-up show for Lollapalooza at Community Park North with Ween!
donutage (Bill Cole) 5:23:22 PM
My BC Friday loot was the new Mary Timony, Jeffrey Lewis's 2022 tapes, & Lewsburg's Out and About. Was it here that I heard them described as "the Dutch Yo La Tengo"?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:24:15 PM
I still need to hear the new Mary Timony. Everyone raves!
Em 5:24:33 PM
my uncle just saw ween, and during a different wprb show i learned that one of the band members lives near hopewell
Jon Solomon (host) 5:25:23 PM
There's video of the Rollins Band show at Community Park on YouTube and in it you can briefly / clearly see a teenaged version of a certain Freeform Pathogen host...
DJ Tenderloin 5:29:30 PM
Greetings Jon Solomon! Greetings listeners / chatters
donutage (Bill Cole) 5:29:34 PM
This Fela is great!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:30:43 PM
Hello, DJ Tenderloin!
DJ Tenderloin 5:31:02 PM
Agreed - enjoying the Fela immensely
Jon Solomon (host) 5:31:05 PM
Donutage, I inherited a bunch of Fela CDs from Pat O's collection so I'm trying to limit myself to one a month...
Jon Solomon (host) 5:31:24 PM
Part of a 25 disc series (I don't believe he owned them all).
donutage (Bill Cole) 5:31:42 PM
Wow! What a coup!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:32:32 PM
One Fela CD a month and one Can CD a month are my self-imposed rules for this generous gift.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:33:01 PM
Most of them have one or two very long tracks on them, which is not a complaint!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:34:05 PM
For example, this disc is two tracks. 31:00+ and 28:00+.
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:34:53 PM
Hello
DJ Tenderloin 5:35:04 PM
There's a lot of Fela records that are just one song a side for sure. great stuff. did you get a chance to check out any of that Studio One Space Age Dub record? excellent stuff!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:35:23 PM
jwh, I neglected to greet you. UNTIL NOW!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:35:36 PM
Rob! Hello!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:35:58 PM
Haven't had a chance to press play on that dub record yet. But I will soon. Perhaps tomorrow while I finish taxes.
DJ Tenderloin 5:36:53 PM
sounds good - i think you'll dig it - we just got done with our taxes
Jon Solomon (host) 5:37:30 PM
I just need an afternoon to finish a spreadsheet and then hopefully we are also complete.
DJ Tenderloin 5:38:38 PM
what is it they say? the only thing you can depend on is death and taxes? something like that
Jon Solomon (host) 5:40:19 PM
Ideally just taxes tomorrow.
DJ Tenderloin 5:42:07 PM
Ha! yes, ideally. it's coming for all of us Jon Solomon!
DJ Tenderloin 5:42:31 PM
but ideally not tomorrow
Jon Solomon (host) 5:43:02 PM
I'm booked solid until 2542 at the earliest.
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:49:37 PM
Hey! This is Unrest!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:49:52 PM
Hey! It is indeed!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:50:37 PM
Only just now realized the "B.P.M." in "B.P.M" is "Bridget Phil Mark!!"
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:51:15 PM
Ha! It is!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:52:11 PM
Clever band.
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:52:50 PM
Very
Jon Solomon (host) 5:55:31 PM
A few years ago I scanned a set list from when I saw Unrest and put it online. There's a song called "Christmas" but the band has no idea what that tune is / was!
TAndy 6:01:08 PM
OI oi
Jon Solomon (host) 6:02:27 PM
Oi!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:02:45 PM
The mystery Unrest song is actually called "Melissa Xmas" (I found my scan).
Jon Solomon (host) 6:04:51 PM
"Melissa Xmas" + "Unrest" = no hits on the ol' Internet.
DJ Tenderloin 6:10:28 PM
Xmas!
Brian McCormack 6:13:56 PM
Was that Fela album before or after they broke his fingers? He did play the sax and couldn't afterward.
TAndy 6:15:52 PM
It got renewed for two more seasons 🤢 totally unnecessary show
Em 6:16:38 PM
animation is such an underappreciated medium
Jon Solomon (host) 6:17:09 PM
Brian, I'm not sure.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:17:29 PM
TAndy, agree it isn't necessary but I really enjoyed the back half of it in particular.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:17:54 PM
Really fond memories of watching the animated series (and Legend of Korra) with my kid in early Pandemic days, Em.
TAndy 6:18:06 PM
It is, Em. Hollywood and many audience's assertions that an idea isn't valid unless it's """""live action""""" really grinds my gears as a fan of animation.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:18:12 PM
Yip and also yip.
TAndy 6:18:42 PM
But I am looking forward to whatever the original creators are cooking up at their own studio in regards to the books being adapted for screen.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:21:38 PM
I didn't realize there's a new animated Avatar TLA feature set for theaters in 2025?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:22:37 PM
Brian, quick search makes me think "after" since it was from 1990.
Em 6:22:54 PM
the only upside i can think of with the live-action adaptation is they hired native actors roles
Jon Solomon (host) 6:23:37 PM
I was delighted to see the great Amber Midthunder show up in the cast.
DJ Tenderloin 6:23:54 PM
My wife is really digging this Jon - she's asking where are they / he from ? N. Africa?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:24:06 PM
Mali.
DJ Tenderloin 6:24:45 PM
Thanks - it's great! Vinyl?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:26:15 PM
Yes, through Sahel Sounds. This was my top Bandcamp Friday pick-up.
TAndy 6:27:10 PM
Also yeah Jon since the original creators left Netflix after creative differences, they made their own studio in response. So their hand in the creation of the Netflix series was very minimal, and will be nonexistent after this season as far as I know.
Colin 6:27:11 PM
howdy! I can actually chime in on the JS show chat! i'm late to the chat discussion but i am loving the new NF avatar show. only on episode 4 but enjoying it much. loved the cartoon
DJ Tenderloin 6:27:19 PM
reminds me a little of Ali (and Vieux) Farka Toure
Jon Solomon (host) 6:28:07 PM
Colin! Yo! I was way not into the first one but I am pleased with how much my attitude towards it changed over the past week.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:28:46 PM
Interesting, TAndy. Thanks for that info.
Colin 6:32:11 PM
oh! I haven't heard any new yard act yet
Colin 6:32:55 PM
i'm only allowing myself two episodes a week of avatar. so it can last longer.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:33:02 PM
This is very different than the rest of the record.
Em 6:33:21 PM
i was surprised the percy jackson series wasn't well-received, given that the author is a lot more involved. I haven't read the books are watched the show tho
Jon Solomon (host) 6:33:22 PM
I was watching one a day but I did the last three yesterday (one before work, two before bed).
Em 6:33:39 PM
*or
Jon Solomon (host) 6:33:43 PM
Em, my daughter and her friends liked the Percy Jackson series real well.
Em 6:33:55 PM
i'm glad to hear that!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:34:11 PM
She was psyched it got renewed, because a couple series she dug were not.
Em 6:34:26 PM
which ones?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:34:43 PM
Shadow and Bone for one, Lockwood and Co. too.
Em 6:35:04 PM
i was surprised shadow and bone wasn't renewed, it seemed really popular
Jon Solomon (host) 6:35:29 PM
It is such a mystery. I didn't start Paper Girls because practically the day after it came out they announced it wasn't going to continue.
Em 6:35:54 PM
i forgot paper girls had a tv show...
Jon Solomon (host) 6:36:01 PM
Willow getting axed and then getting pulled from D+ was a drag for both of us. We were both fans.
Em 6:36:04 PM
that was on amazon right?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:36:13 PM
Amazon, yes.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:36:29 PM
I should read the graphic novel instead...
Em 6:36:30 PM
i wonder if it had to do with the strike..
Jon Solomon (host) 6:36:51 PM
Y The Last Man suffered from strike / bad timing with contract holds.
Em 6:36:59 PM
i had started the graphic novels and fell off but that's because of my short attention span
Em 6:37:19 PM
i would be down to try the series again and take the books out from the library
Colin 6:37:44 PM
yard act, the musical exploration years.
Em 6:37:47 PM
i was downsizing my books and put the first few books at the little free library at morven
Jon Solomon (host) 6:37:52 PM
Once I get our taxes done, Paper Girls from the library it is.
Em 6:38:24 PM
hell yeah
Jon Solomon (host) 6:38:46 PM
I haven't been to Morven in years.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:39:04 PM
Though I drive past it 600x a week (that number may be an over-estimation).
Em 6:39:32 PM
Morven was my first job out of college and its where I met my current boyfriend, lol
Jon Solomon (host) 6:40:04 PM
That's very sweet. If there are ever events of note there, let the chat know!
Em 6:40:13 PM
so i go there often to visit him on my way home from Trenton. occasionally i work event shifts there
Em 6:40:36 PM
will do!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:41:03 PM
Spring Break is rapidly approaching so I'm on the hunt for interesting area things to do on a near-daily basis.
Em 6:41:09 PM
idk when you went there last but a few years ago they redid their downstairs exhibit and it's really good now
Jon Solomon (host) 6:41:37 PM
The kid / various grandparents and aunts went a while back but I couldn't make it for reasons that escape me in 2024.
Em 6:42:56 PM
they're closed for renovations until March 10th right now. I would visit in April when their new exhibit opens on the second floor
Jon Solomon (host) 6:43:30 PM
Will do! I have never been on a tour of the governor's mansion because they only seem to offer them the day I'm on the radio but perhaps this will occur over break.
Em 6:44:33 PM
Morven is the old governor's mansion, drumthwackett is the current one, Drum is open on Wednesdays for tours, Morven is open Tues-Sunday
Jon Solomon (host) 6:45:10 PM
Yep. Drumthwackett is where I've never been.
Colin 6:45:32 PM
i was just looking up morven, never been. that plus a little walk around the withersoon woods parks (i don't know what you locals call them) seems like a great weekend day trip
Em 6:45:34 PM
Same here
Jon Solomon (host) 6:46:01 PM
Witherspoon Woods are terrific, esp. since they've added so many more trails.
Em 6:46:43 PM
I'm biased but I def recommend visiting Morven, esp in the late spring/early summer when all of their exhibits will be open and their garden is blooming
Jon Solomon (host) 6:47:40 PM
One Spring Break (2019?) I made a list of every local museum / attraction I'd never been to and we went to as many as possible.
Em 6:47:44 PM
I visited witherspoon woods once and I need to go back
Em 6:48:05 PM
dream spring break omg
Jon Solomon (host) 6:48:09 PM
This was before we knew the incredible temple in Robbinsville was, uh, constructed using slave labor...
Em 6:49:06 PM
They talk about that at Morven too
Jon Solomon (host) 6:49:31 PM
The Robbinsville temple's construction was far more recent, unfortunately.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:50:23 PM
Like, 2021.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:50:28 PM
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/11/nyregion/nj-hindu-temple-india-baps.html
donutage (Bill Cole) 6:50:52 PM
Is this new En Attendant Anna? I picked up Pricipia because you talked about them, and I like it a lot!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:51:08 PM
It is! One side of their Sub Pop Singles Club contribution.
Em 6:51:09 PM
oh robbinville is recent recent
Em 6:51:53 PM
i don't have a nyt sub so ill have to do some googling to read about it
Colin 6:51:54 PM
jon, i'm glad the workers spoke up and brought attention.
Em 6:52:21 PM
me too
Jon Solomon (host) 6:52:37 PM
Same. It is an incredible place but this news didn't make me want to go back anytime soon (however, it is free).
TAndy 6:52:40 PM
I thought the slave labor thing was debunked? Or was the debunk also a lie?
TAndy 6:53:06 PM
It's so hard to stay caught up on local news sometimes with how easily things can get buried behind other stories.
DJ Tenderloin 6:53:16 PM
My wife came running into the room - "Fairouz!" - apparently a fan and I didn't know!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:53:47 PM
Oh nice, DJ Tenderloin.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:54:21 PM
TAndy, Central New Jersey is sadly becoming a bit of a "news desert" with the loss of many publications / writers. Not as much gets covered as in the past.
TAndy 6:56:44 PM
So true. The only NJ news attention I ever see is whatever happens in NNJ, maybe Princeton or Monmouth county at times. The rest of central and southern may as well not exist lol
Colin 7:00:08 PM
Crumbs 😍 wprb has all the newest hits
Em 7:03:07 PM
wprb needs a local news show
TAndy 7:04:12 PM
Finally I can update the public about the bigfoot I saw in my back yard
Jon Solomon (host) 7:04:23 PM
Em, I believe efforts have been made in that regard but it is hard to sustain with the annual turnover...
Jon Solomon (host) 7:05:23 PM
I used to bowl with all the New Jersey Network radio people in the early 2000s and I don't think that division exists anymore now. Trenton Times is 90% AP copy / paste, Planet Princeton is one person, Town Topics is weekly, there's no Princeton Packet...depressing!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:09:56 PM
I did see Debbie Harry is coming to speak in Princeton, but it is at a benefit.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:09:58 PM

DJ Tenderloin 7:27:15 PM
dinner is calling - I'm out! Jon Solomon I will catch you upon my return in mid - May - everyone have a great evening. Adios!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:28:00 PM
Have a lovely dinner and a great trip!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:31:14 PM
I worry my early dinner was actually a late lunch.

Ossy 7:40:28 PM
Raining night Jon!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:40:56 PM
Ossy! Hope you're staying dry. Not psyched about the slow drive home in this morass.
TAndy 7:44:01 PM
Heading off for now myself to get ready for work. Will be tuned in still, thanks for the show Jon!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:44:40 PM
You're very welcome, TAndy. Let's all be careful out there!
Ossy 7:46:32 PM
Jon - Warm and dry now, after coming from the regal theater seeing the Bob Marley One Love movie
Roffle 7:47:25 PM
Hi! Nice show Jon. I just liked that Ein Heit tune for whatever reason, which is what it's all about. Thanks for that one. Just a listenin' fool since Fela.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:47:28 PM
Any good?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:47:57 PM
Glad you're out there, Roffle!
Roffle 7:48:20 PM
You too man.
Em 7:52:05 PM
thanks for a great show and chat! time for me to find dinner myself
Jon Solomon (host) 7:53:19 PM
You're welcome back anytime, Em!
DJ Hog 7:54:40 PM
wow this is amazing
Jon Solomon (host) 7:55:26 PM
This record is very nice.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:55:39 PM
Nearly DJ Hog o'clock!
Ossy 7:56:24 PM
Jon - The Marley movie is pretty good!
