Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:44:22 PM
You were happening, Dennis!
David Shortell 2:44:22 PM
I just recently learned this was originally a Kai Winding song. Irma’s is just the well-known hit version.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:44:52 PM
Crazy!
Terry Kelso 2:45:13 PM
didnt they use a ruler to kept the couples from being to close each other
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:45:48 PM
Bruce, I bet your fingers were bloodied by that ruler
Terry Kelso 2:46:28 PM
never went to any dance ever
Terry Kelso 2:49:10 PM
what is a cal la boose
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:49:27 PM
haha, i was wondering too!
Richard from Rocky Hill 2:51:44 PM
@ David Shortell Yes, I'd also thought it was a Keith Richards-Mick Jagger composition. Irma Thomas and Kai Winding did indeed record earlier versions before the Stones but (at least according to Wiki) it was penned by Jordan "Jerry" Ragovoy, an American songwriter and record producer.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:53:55 PM
Hey Richard, thank you! Jerry Ragovoy is an interesting record story himself!
David Shortell 2:54:15 PM
Chuck's "School Days" was way better than the 1907 show tune.
Richard from Rocky Hill 2:54:34 PM
@ Terry Kelso I think the original meaning of calaboose was a jail. "Oh, he got thown in the ol' calaboose." I guess in Chuck Berry's song, the stuck seat belt makes his car a jail for his girlfriend ... ?
Terry Kelso 2:54:47 PM
that could be a show jerry ragovoy
Liana Gordon Kahn 2:54:48 PM
Congrats Grandpa Lance - and thank you!
Dennis Denard 2:55:11 PM
Another great show Dr. of Musicology!
Richard from Rocky Hill 2:56:14 PM
@ Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) Wow! I'm definitely going to have to check out Jerry Ragovoy, thanks.
Terry Kelso 2:56:29 PM
well richard chuck would know what a calaboose was
Sheila Kohen 2:57:08 PM
Wondeful show Jerry! Thanks for playing the 'Name Game' tune...luved the song w growing up! Have a great wkend too!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:57:12 PM
Calaboose sounds like something I heard Jimmy Durante say!
Richard from Rocky Hill 2:57:13 PM
@ Terry Kelso Ha! Very true ... ;-))
Terry Kelso 2:57:47 PM
the mann act tax evasion etc
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:58:29 PM
Hi Sheila! I appreciate it. I hope you and your bff Val were dancing today!

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 3:00:36 PM
Thanks Dennis, Sheila, Bruce, Richard, Liana & Josh, David, and everyone I left out!
David Shortell 3:01:01 PM
Good night, Mrs, Calaboose! Wherever you are!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 3:02:11 PM
There you go!
