The WIBG lineup circa 1967 was Jerry Stevens, Bill Wright Sr., Joe Niagara, Hy Lit, and Frank X. Feller.

He was on WPEN "Station of the Stars" until his retirement in 1999...

I worked with a guy from the WWII era. He got to listen to (that's it!) WPEN in the morning and i listened to my music in the afternoon.

Frank Sinatra every day at 11am was unnerving to me but now i miss the times

I was a big PEN listener, it got me into big band, gateway to jazz. I only had an AM radio in my first car, a '66 Beetle...

I owned an old Chevy pick up that only had AM. I hear certain songs now and it reminds me of it. Pina Colada song comes to mind.

I heard a Matthew Shipp duo album on WPRB in the nineties and only in the last 5 years i was able to buy it

WPRB used to have a jazz robot late at night with no dj to say what song I heard and it drive me crazy that i couldn't find out about a song i liked

Robots are the bane of our existence...

In 1968 Hy Lit moved to WDAS, playing Hendrix, Cream among others. Not a great fit. Search Hyski Underground for a brief history. Steve Leon, Michael Tearson, Steve Martorano among others appeared before WMMR clobbered them.

It played good music but would repeat itself over the nights

Was WDAS a non commercilal station back then?

I was young back then and wasn't used to the long songs WDAS would play

I found a website that has the history of WDAS and Ed Sciaky was a DJ then. I was trying to remember his name for years. He had a shoe on WIOQ every Sunday night.

Another ECM great!

If I find an ECM record at Goodwill I buy it.

You used to find ECM vinyl dirt cheap but places are smartening up...

Goodwill used to be good, yeah. It was priced so low I could take a chance on an unknown scratched up album.

Meatball Fulton satirized Hy Lit’s tenure at WDAS on his show on WUHY. Called him Toi Lit.

used ECM records tended to be taken care of much like classical records.

I have Where Fortune Smiles. Surman, John M. , Dave H., Karl Berger.

There is a sax player on ECM who's tone makes my blood run cold. He plays with a lot of others there too.

I have the sane reaction. i rarely play him. he's probably why I have a prejudice against ECM European roster...

My Where Fortune Smiles is a 1975 reissue, but my Extrapolation with The Two Johns is a first edition.

I saw the Milagro Beanfield War in the eighties and liked it. I looked it up and I'm surprised critics panned it.

I bought Half Machine Lip Moves from Third Street, but it was warped. Jerry replaced it. Great store.

When I'd go to Philly I'd go to a used record store on Second near all the pubs and didn't know there was a great record store nearby.
