Number 6 5:02:10 PM
Greetings once again!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:33 PM
Hi Number 6!
Lizbot (host) 5:05:47 PM
How worried should I be about predicted snowstorms this weekend? I need a consensus. I have plans in NYC Fri-Mon because of the President's Day weekend break. Am I gonna drive up and find my Saturday events cancelled? I am pondering this
Number 6 5:07:03 PM
Oh boy, more snow due, sheesh!
Lizbot (host) 5:12:38 PM
@Number 6 - Unfortunately! I always have this 4-day weekend every mid-February, and normally I head up to NYC for it, but I don't remember getting snow during it in previous years. Supposed to snow Saturday in NYC. Unclear if we're getting snow here...But up to 6" in NYC!? Seems off, but at this point, it's anybody's guess. I crammed TWO plays into Saturday and I am wondering if I'm gonna be freezing and sliding down the street during the small window I have between the 5 pm matinee ending
Lizbot (host) 5:13:07 PM
...and the 8pm play, in a very different neighborhood, beginning!
Number 6 5:16:38 PM
The weather has been kind of weird. On Monday it was in the 50s, and then on Tuesday we had the snow. It seemed to be a lot worse north of the city.
Lizbot (host) 5:21:21 PM
@Number 6 - My husband dropped our daughter's winter coat off at the dry-cleaner because she managed to get it very muddy last weekend when it was 60 degrees in Philly. She really needed it again before they were done cleaning it! We had blooming crocuses last weekend
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:21:51 PM
Hey folks! Feeling pretty crappy (not Covid thankfully) but still tuning in!
Lizbot (host) 5:22:06 PM
Hey Addie!
Lizbot (host) 5:22:51 PM
@Addie - Oh no! Sorry you're feeling poorly. Finally no one in my house is sick (knock on wood). I wonder if we'll make it to spring without more creeping crud.
Lizbot (host) 5:23:11 PM
@Addie - Does Z have a long weekend for President's Day?
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:23:25 PM
There’s been a wicked crud going around my office. Guess it finally got me.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:23:42 PM
Z always has a long weekend, she’s homeschooled!
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:25:17 PM
Hello and good afternoon
Lizbot (host) 5:25:19 PM
@Addie - Oh right! Hattie's had this mid-February 4-day weekend for years, and a 3-day weekend last weekend, so February school weeks feel so short!
Lizbot (host) 5:25:27 PM
HI Rob from Maryland 🦅!
Number 6 5:25:47 PM
Hi snek lady! There's some new crap going around called RSV, I wanted to get the shot, but they wanted $300 for it.
Guelo<3 5:29:29 PM
Loving all The Beach Boys! …Along with the sunset
Guelo<3 5:30:07 PM
<3 Greetings !
Lizbot (host) 5:34:04 PM
Hello Guelo!
Lizbot (host) 5:34:20 PM
@Guelo - Or Huelo Guelo
Lizbot (host) 5:34:49 PM
@Guelo - I'm glad you're digging all the Beach Boys!
Lizbot (host) 5:35:18 PM
@Number 6 - oh my god, the RSV shots are that expensive?! Yikes. I was going to look into getting that one
Number 6 5:36:25 PM
That was a few months ago, when they presumably just came out. They may be co\vered now.
Lizbot (host) 5:36:27 PM
Perfume and cologne is overrated and hurts my head! Especially if I'm in an elevator or other enclosed space with someone drenched in it. That's why I love this song
Lizbot (host) 5:37:04 PM
Well, that and also it's a great. But I think it's also the only anti-perfume love song.
Laura Loewen 5:37:08 PM
My RSV shot was covered, or I think it was (hope not to get a nasty surprise bill)... $300 EEK!
Sugar Sidious 5:37:10 PM
First heard sparks on wprb, tryouts for the human race. Its on my 30 hour 'wprb finds' playlist
Lizbot (host) 5:37:20 PM
@Number 6 - I would hope so. I have to look into it
Lizbot (host) 5:37:29 PM
Hi Laura Loewen!
Lizbot (host) 5:37:39 PM
Hi Sugar Sidious!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:10 PM
@Laura Loewen - Yeah, I suspect my insurance will cover it, but i'd better check first!
Lizbot (host) 5:40:15 PM
@Sugar Sidious - Nice! The first Sparks I ever heard was on WPRB over 3 decades ago and it was Pineapple from Indiscreet and I at first mistook Russell's falsetto for a woman!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:25 PM
@Sugar Sidious - I love the collab between Giorgio Moroder and Sparks so much. I have a giant No. 1 In Heaven promo poster from when it came out. It was missing for many years and I recently found it!
Stephen Bluhm 5:45:58 PM
love signing in to Future Bible Heroes
Lizbot (host) 5:46:07 PM
Hi Stephen!
Lizbot (host) 5:46:26 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - And now fun silly Northern Irish new wave/punk
Stephen Bluhm 5:46:29 PM
howdy!
Lizbot (host) 5:48:05 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - And now not! BTW, I owe you a message. I'll be in NYC this weekend, snow-stormy weather permitting, but I'll be around next Tues
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:48:07 PM
Gosh I just love this song.
Bud Burroughs 5:48:44 PM
Hello, Lizbot! Did you see Sparks on the Record Store Day List this year? It's a 2LP set of No. 1 Song in Heaven along with a record they wrote and produced for a singer named Noel. I'd never heard of the last one.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 5:48:53 PM
@number 6 what the what!? Vaxxes should be free.
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:50:11 PM
They don't know how much I like that Talking Heads song!
Stephen Bluhm 5:50:28 PM
That's quite all right. I'm certainly not without things to do. Booking shows, sending press stuff out.
Lizbot (host) 5:50:34 PM
@Addie - I love this song too. With David Byrne there's so often a surface lyrical meaning and a few other layers too. That song is so joyous and simple, but I'm sure there's more going on. It also sounds like he's singing to a little kid
Lizbot (host) 5:50:43 PM
Hi Bud Burroughs!
Stephen Bluhm 5:50:57 PM
Hoping Philly area media will cover my music video for Wissahickon. We'll talk when you're ready!
Rob from Maryland 🦅 5:51:03 PM
Hi Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:15 PM
@Bud Burroughs - I did! But I resisted purchasing it! kinda tempted to and probably will eventually, but I have indulged in so may Sparls special releases and old 7's and memorabilia, I gotta stop myself sometimes!
Lizbot (host) 5:52:43 PM
@Addie - Vaxxes should definitely all be free!
Bud Burroughs 5:53:15 PM
Yeah, if I bought every record I wanted, I wouldn't have any space left to live in
Brian D 5:53:43 PM
ROBYN!
Bud Burroughs 5:53:45 PM
Ooh, great Soft Boys song!
Lizbot (host) 5:53:58 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - Sounds good! I will drop you a line this weekend or early next week
Lizbot (host) 5:55:04 PM
@Bud Burroughs - That whole Underwater Moonlight album is incredible from beginning to end. One of my all-time favorite albums
Stephen Bluhm 5:55:08 PM
lots of favs already this show!
Stephen Bluhm 5:55:27 PM
I think you and George told me about this Who song years ago
Ossy 5:55:47 PM
hi space susan liz!
Lizbot (host) 5:56:27 PM
@Bud Burroughs - yeah, that's the thing. I used to go to a lot more record fairs, but I gotta hold off these days. I mean, I still have some incredible finds I was so grateful to have discovered at record fairs, so I gotta go back to the FMU one at some point, but it's like a tug of war being there and resisting bringing much vinyl home. I focus on the 7"s. Space-savers!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:36 PM
Hi Ossy!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:46 PM
More Northern Irish punk, but Derry this time
Jessica Cross 5:58:59 PM
Hey Lizbot! What was that piece of dialogue back there? So so funny I need to know.
Ossy 5:59:55 PM
Interesting playlist Sparks Perfume that smells like chocolate rose love!
Lizbot (host) 6:00:03 PM
Hi Jessica Cross! Thanks for listening. Which one/How far back? I played a little snippet of Steve Martin from "The Jerk" back around 5:30
Lizbot (host) 6:00:53 PM
@Ossy - haha, perfume is TOO smelly for my brain!
Jessica Cross 6:00:57 PM
That’s it! Make sense. Thank you! Loving the show (as always). Party on!
Lizbot (host) 6:01:05 PM
@Ossy - Guess who I'm about to play? One of your favorite voice actors...
Ossy 6:01:19 PM
LOOOOOOL, very Killbot stinky!
Ossy 6:01:39 PM
Hmmm, i'll find out!
Lizbot (host) 6:01:39 PM

BETTER OFF DEAD!
Lizbot (host) 6:03:32 PM
@Jessica Cross - Thanks! Yeah, that movie is a classic. I sampled it with that station ID after showing it to my daughter for the first time. i was on TV all the time when I was growing up. Feels like The Jerk and Airplane were one constantly, both so quotable
Brian D 6:03:36 PM

Brian D 6:04:26 PM
Whenever we say something like "well that's all I need..." my wife and I have to follow it up with "and this chair, and the paddle ball game, and the thermos..."
Lizbot (host) 6:04:28 PM
Hi Brian D! I LOVE this dance scene in Better Off Dead. One of the best dance scenes in the 80s, so much better thanks to Elizabeth Daily!
George Korein 6:07:28 PM
I need to find out what other music EG Daily sings on
Ossy 6:07:34 PM
That dj, Talltrees, played a voice actor song in one video game show, Jump Up Super Star from Super Mario Odyssey. Kate Higgins(Pauline )
Lizbot (host) 6:07:37 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - Yes! The Who Sell Out was one of the first records I ever bought! It was at The Book Trader at its old location on South Street. I was still in elementary school and saved up allowance and bought two records based entirely on their ridiculous funny album covers - The Who Sell Out and The Soft Machine's first self-titled abum. Thankfully not just the covers were great! I feel like my music taste has been split between proto-punk/mod and prog ever since!
George Korein 6:07:42 PM
It also makes me
Lizbot (host) 6:07:53 PM
Hi George!
George Korein 6:07:58 PM
Think that maybe my music is lacking squeals
Brian D 6:08:21 PM
Talking Heads "Love->Building on Fire" and Eno's "Burning Airlines Give You So Much More" go great in the same set
Ossy 6:08:56 PM
Powerpuff Girls had some singing episodes called Love Makes The World Go Round, when some evil mime turns everything black-white and silent and the PPG do a concert to turn everything back to color
Brian D 6:09:09 PM
Yeah the Tracey Ullman "BAY-ee-BEE!!" and the E.G. Daily squeals really were high marks of the set.
Carlos Ramone. 6:09:16 PM
@ Liz. ♥️ the undertones..showing the age here..undertones and Ramones at great adventure 79/80
Stephen Bluhm 6:09:38 PM
Wow I remember when it was on South Street. What a great memory.
Lizbot (host) 6:09:43 PM
@George Korein - She has another song on the Better Off Dead soundtrack called "A Little Luck," but my second favorite on that soundtrack after One Way Love is Terri Nunn's Dancing In Isolation
Brian D 6:10:06 PM
Oh wow! Lizbot mind meld moment... when typing the Eno song title earlier I immediately thought of Joan Armatrading "Drop the Pilot" right after! Right in sync we are. Plus there's that perfume mention again so it all makes sense
Lizbot (host) 6:10:12 PM
Hi Carlos Ramone.!
Lizbot (host) 6:11:04 PM
@Brian D - For REAL. I always shout out that "BABY" along with Tracey. Somestimes, if I'm feeling bold, I do it on mic. I did that for my 20th anniversary Doubleplusgood show
Brian D 6:11:31 PM
I remember the video w/Tracey in the bowling alley etc
Dennis Lingg 6:12:18 PM
Hi chat!
Lizbot (host) 6:12:50 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - It has a great bookstore cat! I used to chat with the owner on Saturday afternoons after spending all my spare cash at Space Boy (and yakking with John and Scott there for while too)

@Carlos Ramone. - haha, I was in Derry in 2019 and I kept humming Undertones songs. i love the videos they made for those songs. My Perfect Cousin video looks like they just recruited a buncha Derry street kids to goof around!
Brian D 6:14:26 PM

Dennis Lingg 6:15:52 PM
This sounds so good on headphones.
Lizbot (host) 6:16:19 PM
@Dennis Lingg - What's the MVM movie this week?? I listened to A Room with A View and laughed at your and Mary's description of Daniel Day-Lewis' insufferable drop character
Lizbot (host) 6:17:08 PM
@Brian D - That Tracey video is so much fun! I love her dancing in her pink fluffy slippers in the market aisles. She meant SO MUCH to me as a kid, and she's still great. Was obsessed with her show when I was growing up
Brian D 6:17:21 PM
Fine aural chemists the XTC-ers yes. Really well bound together songs. Nothing wasted. Listened to the bass and guitar sewn together on Mayor of Simpleton the other week. Just right.
Dennis Lingg 6:17:29 PM
My Beautiful Laundrette, which we both loved. A very different Daniel Day-Lewis character
Lizbot (host) 6:17:50 PM
@Dennis Lingg - I'm glad! I love this song but George always makes fun of how Andy Partridge gets all nasal on "weeeeeird"
Bud Burroughs 6:17:52 PM
XTC took a while to make Nonsuch, but they nailed it!
Brian D 6:18:07 PM
And Eversmile New Jersey. Daniel as the renegade dentist in Patagonia Argentina. Has some great roles he does.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:13 PM
@Dennis Lingg - OMG, that's RIGHT! I saw that movie with my mom when I was maybe 15! SO good!
Dennis Lingg 6:19:31 PM
Andy Partridge is easy to make fun of even when he’s brilliant.
Lizbot (host) 6:19:54 PM
@Brian D - Truth. Mayor of Simpleton is also perfection!
Dennis Lingg 6:20:08 PM
@liz of the 2 movies, it’s surprising which one has male nudity.
Lizbot (host) 6:21:14 PM
@Brian D - Oh good catch! I didn't even think of the "smell my perfume!" line in "Drop the Pilot" when playing Sparks' "Perfume
Brian D 6:21:39 PM
this one too on the Box Bot
Lizbot (host) 6:21:41 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:22:26 PM
LOVE that detuned descending synth note!
Lizbot (host) 6:23:07 PM
@Bud Burroughs - They sure did! I love reading interviews about Andy's songwriting process
Lizbot (host) 6:23:29 PM
@Brian D - whoa, I have to check out Eversmile New Jersey!
Brian D 6:24:06 PM
Partridge on 2 songs on this album (Walk under Ladders)
Bud Burroughs 6:24:53 PM
Another connection: Drummer Dave Mattacks played on Nonsuch and the first couple Joan Armatrading records.
Lizbot (host) 6:24:57 PM
@Dennis Lingg - haha, true. He's a brilliant dork. I love when he had his hat period.
Brian D 6:25:02 PM
Heh... just noticed how the entire 80s Letterman band was on her Me Myself I album. Before they were even on the Letterman show or before that show even existed.
Lizbot (host) 6:26:09 PM
@Dennis Lingg - I know, right?! It' like with A Room with a View, they knew they could maybe get away with that bathing scene, whereas My Beautiful Launderette was already gonna draw attention for being an early queer love story, so I think they felt compelled to play it safe
Bud Burroughs 6:27:43 PM
@Brian I never noticed that about the Me Myself I musicians
Ossy 6:28:02 PM
Sounds kinda like Space Lady Susan!
Sugar Sidious 6:28:53 PM
Holy cow.. I'm only 3 decades old haha. Sparks still plays by me, at thr Keswick theater. I haven't made it to a show yet because by now, the ticket price is a lil prohibitive. But it's always and forever one of my favorite wprb finds
Brian D 6:32:47 PM
Adam Ant with English Beat opening coming to Keswick in April. And looking at their calendar it seems the thing now is screening 80s-90s movies hosted by one of the stars doing spoken word/ Q & A.

I am overlaying the Gibby doing Donovan "Hurdy Gurdy Man" ooh ohh ooo vocal sound effects on top of this part
DJ Readie 6:41:07 PM
YAY- and then FREDDIE???!!! You just made my night, Liz!!
Brian D 6:41:15 PM
Interesting book Tommy James "Me, the Mob, and the Music...". So so so many songs . Crazy ride
Brian D 6:41:34 PM
All-star Bot Set tonight yep
Lizbot (host) 6:41:36 PM
Hi Krista KristaKrista! haha, excellent! I"m glad to elicit screams! I just think of clove gum when I think of the that smell, maybe because of its crimson packaging!
DJ Readie 6:42:53 PM
😍😍😍😍
Brian D 6:43:07 PM
Teaberry and Plover
Lizbot (host) 6:44:14 PM
@Dennis Lingg - Srsly. Also, the OG book trader was a great old house and it got ripped down for the hideous monstrosity Nike sneaker store that replaced it. Criminal. I takjed to the Book Trader owner many years ago before me moved about the fate of the business. He said he tried to buy that building many times over the yrs he was there and the owner just kept raising the price every time he managed to raise enough. The landllord was clearly holding out for a huge company like Nike to come along
Lizbot (host) 6:44:39 PM
@Ossy - I KNEW you'd know all the E.G. Daily characters!
Lizbot (host) 6:46:20 PM
@Brian D - I wouldn't turn down either a plover or some teaberry gum (or that teaberry ice cream at Franklin Fountain)
Ossy 6:47:00 PM
Only those two so far, aside from Tommy Pickles and Buttercup Utonium and haven't also seen Chalkzone in YEARS!
Lizbot (host) 6:47:18 PM
Thanks, Brian D! oh, and WRT to Tommy James - I haven't read the whole book, but I read a longform article about him getting boondoggled into being on the mob's label
Brian D 6:47:32 PM
Grandfather: Would you look at him? Sittin' there with his hooter scrapin' away at that bewk! Ringo: Well, what's the matter with that? Grandfather: Have you no natural resources of your own? Have they even robbed you of that? Ringo: You can learn from books!
Dennis Lingg 6:48:49 PM
Whenever I hear Bobby Fuller I always see wild creatures dancing in a supermarket in my head.
DJ Readie 6:49:04 PM
Classic HDN scene, Brian- & it's "his hideous great hooter", to be precise!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:26 PM
@Sugar Sidious - I was on mic for a long time when you posted, so yr comment got buried and I only just saw it now, but I was at that last Sparks show last summer! An incredible show! I ran into SO MANY WPRB LISTENERS there! ha!
Lizbot (host) 6:50:59 PM
@Dennis Lingg - YES. Foxes and badgers! I love that movie SO much. One of my favorite Wes Andersons up there with Moonrise Kingdom and Rushmore
Carlos Ramone. 6:51:09 PM
@Liz..great scene at end of RR High School with this song…Johnny even smiles at end of it!!
Lizbot (host) 6:52:57 PM
@Ossy - Oh RIGHT. Buttercup! I KNEW she voiced a character for a show I watched a lot back in its time!
Lizbot (host) 6:55:41 PM
@Carlos Ramone. - Yes! I love that movie and I've been TRYING to get my 15 year-old to watch it. She LOVES The Ramones but seems to think the movie will be "cringe," to use the parlance of her generation. The scenes with Mary Woronov and her crazy-tight 1940s up-do make me laugh, but my favorite scene is the lab rat rock experiment!
Lizbot (host) 6:56:15 PM
@Carlos Ramone - The Ambler Theater showed Rock N' Roll High School on the big screen a year or two ago but it was a Thursday night :(
Lizbot (host) 6:57:02 PM
What in the deli aisle made them cry? This song contains a whole night of events that I want to see fleshed out in a short film!
Carlos Ramone. 6:58:18 PM
@ Liz..a few years ago my daughter saw the movie with Riff Do8ng
Carlos Ramone. 6:58:38 PM
Doing a QA afterwards..so jealous
Dennis Lingg 6:58:48 PM
Fantastic show… going to eat, have a great night everybody!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:30 PM
Thanks, Dennis!
Brian D 7:04:03 PM
Held up stage coach in rain (check). Doin' the same (check).
Carlos Ramone. 7:04:25 PM
@Liz. Make out scene with party doll surely will make her cringe
Lizbot (host) 7:06:26 PM
@Carlos Ramone. - Oh man! That's awesome! I would be so tempted tp ask PJ Soles about the making of "Halloween" too!
DJ Readie 7:06:56 PM
This is a great one, Liz - I am pretty sure I 1st heard Trenet on Mister Various's Sunday night show!
Lizbot (host) 7:07:35 PM
@Carlos Ramone - ha, true. But the overall effect of the movie outweighs anything that aged poorly or was just kinda corny!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:42 PM
@DJ Readie - ah! I would believe it, though I never heard THomas play it. It's an old favorite of mine that I first heard when watching Toto the Hero at The Ritz with my mom in the late 80s! Not a very age-appropriate movie, but I'm glad she took me!
DJ Readie 7:10:24 PM
@Lizbot- the lovely Kate is a true hero - raised you well, I really admire your mom!
Lizbot (host) 7:11:17 PM
@DJ Readie - She's a good one! And a New Jersey pubic school teacher! Always found cool museums, roadside attractions, books and movies
DJ Readie 7:12:11 PM
And you have carried on the tradition with Hattie! 😍
Lizbot (host) 7:12:43 PM
@Brian D - I'll never get over the crazy way Kirsty MacColl died. I still snorkel, but when I think about how much I wanted to get scuba certified and then think about her drowning it gives me pause. My dad raised me on her father Ewan's records
Stephen Bluhm 7:12:46 PM
Space Boy... that tickles my memory but I ca't remember what that was
Carlos Ramone. 7:12:50 PM
@Liz…I wanted her to ask about making Stripes with bill m. And the a7nt
Carlos Ramone. 7:13:39 PM
Aunt jemima breakfast scene..none of kids were safe when I made pancakes
Lizbot (host) 7:14:58 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - Space Boy was a great little record store on South Street back in the 90s and early 2000s. It was my favorite record store. It was owned by then-coupld John Stanley (now married to DJ Robert Drake of WXPN) and his ex Scott. They had excellent taste and were always playing great records in store. They also had many great in-store performances. I saw Marianne Notwottny perform there, and Adam Green and many others.
Addie 🐍 🐍 Plum 7:15:08 PM
This has really been a top shelf show, Lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:36 PM
Thanks, Addie!
Stephen Bluhm 7:17:13 PM
cool thanks! I probably shopped there but it's just been so long
Lizbot (host) 7:17:57 PM
@Carlos Ramone. - Stripes was a Bill Murray movie I somehow never saw, even though I was Bill Murray-obsessed growing up and still love him. I was aware of it but it was never on TV and i think my local video store, the long-gone Ellis Street Video, never had it in stock. That place was tiny and had only one copy of everything. My brother and I were personally responsible for tying up their copy of The Best of Eddie Murphy SNL VHS tape for months at a time
Lizbot (host) 7:19:45 PM
I know Morrissey is a dick, but I still love this song so much
Brian D 7:21:02 PM
We could not stop quoting Stripes in middle school. Heyday of cable tv for us
Lizbot (host) 7:22:02 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - I think they closed in about 2005...I know I was living near the Italian Market when they closed, so that pins it to around 2005-2007, but I think on the earlier side of that range. Maybe even 2004. Were you in Philly yet then?
Stephen Bluhm 7:24:11 PM
weird I was just thinking this morning how Sherlock Holmes is my favorite Sparks song. Was thinking a lot about it. Never dreamed someone would play it. hahaha
Lizbot (host) 7:25:06 PM
@Brian D - See my parents refused to pay for cable until I was older. My brother and I wore them down for YEARS and years and then one Christmas morning my mom presented us with a gift-wrapped literal cord and we were dumbfounded, and then she explained she was finally getting cable and it was gping to be our only gift that year. We were pumped/
Lizbot (host) 7:26:06 PM
@Brian D - Before that, I almost exclusively watched pre-commercial era PBS - 3-2-1 Contact, This Old House cuz my dad liked Bob Vila, etc.And then rented a LOT of VHS
Stephen Bluhm 7:27:46 PM
I started at Temple in Sept 2004 but before that my sister had already been living at 9th and Lombard for years and she'd take me shopping down South Street when I was 16-18, which is why I remember the old Last Word.
Lizbot (host) 7:28:13 PM
I love this song but I also feel like it is giving me that...what's that audio phenomenon where people whisper really close to microphones and it makes your brain feel fuzzy? Jane B. is making my brain fuzzy
Stephen Bluhm 7:29:08 PM
hahaha ASMR
Lizbot (host) 7:29:47 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - Sherlock Holmes is one of my all-time favorites. And for that reason, George covered it for a Sparks fest at PhilaMOCA about...gosh, i dunno, at least 12 years ago, but probably more like 16
Stephen Bluhm 7:30:15 PM
I try not to give Morrissey money but some of the songs are just great songs. I was singing along a bit. I used to play that one on guitar.
Lizbot (host) 7:30:32 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - yes! It's like Jane Birkin, you gotta love her, but this track sets off major ASMR...which is not necessarily a bad thing! Another close mic singer is Momus.
Stephen Bluhm 7:31:02 PM
I wish I'd been able to pull it together to cover George's song when he asked but I was just too overload. Still am. But I still want to do it sometime.
Lizbot (host) 7:33:41 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - The whole Morrissey situation makes me so sad. I will never stop being grateful to him for his music and what it meant to me as a kid/teen/and adult, BUT I can justify giving him money anymore either. He needs to just shut up with his "hot takes" and trying to provoke everyone. It isn't cute anymore. He used to be the lovable curmudgeon, but now he's just a mean stodger with a serious "England for the English" problem.
Andrew G 7:34:52 PM
thank you, lizbot, for such an uplifting show!
Stephen Bluhm 7:35:25 PM
I used to think he was just inhabiting those views as a writer for some songs, not that he actually believed that National Front stuff
Lizbot (host) 7:35:34 PM
TWIST! I only keep this heap for you!
Stephen Bluhm 7:35:45 PM
thought he was just writing about various characters
Lizbot (host) 7:35:47 PM
Hi Andrew! Thanks so much!
Stephen Bluhm 7:36:42 PM
The Stephin Merritt haters are SOL tonight
Lizbot (host) 7:37:34 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - It doesn't change the fact that The Smiths (and, I know it's controversial because a lot of people who love The Smiths don't care for Morrissey's solo stuff) but the Morrissey solo stuff too- so much of it is great, despite his opinions
Carlos Ramone. 7:38:20 PM
@liz..enjoyed the music and chat banter tonight..thanks
Stephen Bluhm 7:39:14 PM
I agree and it's doesn't change our memories growing up with the music
Stephen Bluhm 7:40:54 PM
wow I remember those days when you used to not be able to just instantly access any music any time. Used to have to search Philly record stores for Sparks and always strike out.
Ossy 7:41:04 PM
Hi Readie Rainbow 🌈 📚
Ossy 7:41:37 PM
Liz - That's so awesome you saw many people from the chat at that Sparks perfume concert
DJ Readie 7:43:10 PM
Hi Ossy! nice to see you!
Lizbot (host) 7:43:50 PM
@Carlos Ramone. - Thanks for hanging, chatting and listening!
Lizbot (host) 7:44:36 PM
@Ossy - That was A GREAT NIGHT...and then I had to get on a very long flight about 5 hours after I got home, so just didn't go to bed! I wish I could sleep on planes, though!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:24 PM
@Ossy - Ted, who sometimes is in my chat, was there, as far as WPRB Chat people!
Lizbot (host) 7:48:34 PM
@Stephen Bluhm - yeah, every saturday I walked from my studio apartment on 16th & Spruce to the corner of Pine street and walked east down Pine past all the pretty old stone buildings and people playing chess in Louis Kahn Park, and headed straight for Space Boy, Once I'd stocked up on new albums, I get a drink at The Bean Cafe, wherein worked a boy I had a crush on who had FELT lyrics tattooed on his arm, (which was probably 90% of the reason I liked him at the time.)
Lizbot (host) 7:48:55 PM
so good to see you here, Ossy!
Lizbot (host) 7:50:19 PM
PET! (Petula Clark) Is another one I gotta credit my London-based swinging 60s mom for. She lived in London throughout her 20s in the 60 and had all Pet's records
Lizbot (host) 7:50:56 PM
I wish I could snap my fingers so I could snap along to this
Lizbot (host) 7:51:19 PM
My kid did a very spirited dance to this song when she was little!
Ossy 7:52:41 PM
Awesome, just like saw some wprb djs in Princeton! Jetlag in planes are stinky tiring
Stephen Bluhm 7:52:46 PM
i was living diagonally across form kahn park at the time we met. gosh those were the days. what a great place to live. good thing these are the days too!
DJ Readie 7:53:22 PM
Pet is so great- so glad your mom turned you on to her tunes!
DJ Readie 7:54:22 PM
And oh wow- Lennon! - thx for this fab show Lizbot! So msny gems!
DJ Readie 7:54:29 PM
*many*
Stephen Bluhm 7:54:59 PM
thanks for a lovely evening of great music and a little chat!
Lizbot (host) 7:55:05 PM
@Ossy - I wish I had all my old WPRB bumper stickers. I have many of them, but I like to preserve one of each design by not letting them get really worn and dirty on my car, BUT I love it when I spot a WPRB stick on a car on the road! And of course when I see someone in a shirt ot when someone recognizes my voice. Always an ego boost!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:13 PM
Thanks, Stephen! Hattie took her first steps in Kahn Park! Then she climbed up the steps of Giovanni's Room! I loved going to Blendo and Spirit of the Artist (SOTA) along that stretch of Pine. Beautiful place.
Number 6 7:56:57 PM
Another playlist that I will have to keep. Thanks and BCNU!
Lizbot (host) 7:57:29 PM
Thanks Number 6!
Lizbot (host) 7:58:26 PM
@DJ Readie - Thanks Read! Yeah, my mom and dad's record collections were made up of some pretty great stuff!
Ossy 7:59:57 PM
Liz - By any chance if I recognize your voice or appearance, will shout you out in public!!
DJ Readie 8:00:05 PM
@Lizbot - And my parents had the folk era covered!
