Afternoon Jerry!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:02:32 PM
Stephen, good afternoon! Thank you both of you!
Brian D 12:03:10 PM
Nice start Jerry. Happy weekend! Good news heard that Herbie H & surviving Headhunters are doing a reunion gig . And unreleased Sonny Rollins from Village Vanguard set coming out.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:04:13 PM
Brian, you always have good information! Both interesting and welcome forthcoming events, thank you!
Patrick White 12:13:25 PM
Greetings to Jerry and fellow Gordonistas. Looking forward to todays Third Hour Super Bowl tribute.Al Hirt,Grambling State marching band and Up with People.
Russell Woessner 12:13:55 PM
Very mellow opening set so far!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:14:44 PM
Very special today will be a rare track, Patrick, of Archie Shepp performing with Up With People
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:15:18 PM
Hi Russ. Bordering on depressing?
Russell Woessner 12:15:54 PM
Not depressing at all! Cismic!
Russell Woessner 12:16:09 PM
Cosmic!
Russell Woessner 12:16:33 PM
Pithy!
Patrick White 12:16:35 PM
The only thing depressing is that Serenade is not a daily show
Patrick White 12:18:20 PM
Jerry Philadelphia has another Tyrone Brown in the jazz diaspora.saw him at Cheltenham .Wednesday night .He is a vocalist and An acolyte of Billy Strayhorn.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:18:34 PM
Everybody, yesterday Russ tripped over a skid of Tired Hands Peanut Butter Stout located next to his other skids of stout!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:19:34 PM
Thanks, Patrick. I saw that name and it made me blink! I was surprised. How was that show?
Patrick White 12:21:03 PM
Well done entertaining with Dave Posmontier.I believe the other Tyrone Brown has retired. I never see any performance. Truly a great underrated performer
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:21:14 PM
Patrick, you get around! And have very varied and deep musical interests!
vildachaya1 12:21:17 PM
Hello My Brother the Wind .... thanks for the tunes - Listening real time this week.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:22:10 PM
Great! Thank you for your deepness, Senor Vildechaya
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:22:38 PM
Space be da Place!
Patrick White 12:23:29 PM
SUN RA should be the Super Bowl halftime entertainment
vildachaya1 12:24:06 PM
I remember calling the Evidence office and asking if I want to buy the entire Sun Ra collection could I get a bargain? They said no. I ended up with the collection anyway
vildachaya1 12:24:55 PM
I have on Sun Ra album I have never opened - I treat it like a bottle of wine I am saving for a special occasion.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:24:56 PM
Benji, I always think of you as wearing a smock and listening to WPRB in your studio while creating a 21st century "David" that is circumsized
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:25:33 PM
That was probably cheap and nasty Jerry Gordon on the line, Benj
vildachaya1 12:26:15 PM
No it was a woman... your 'assistant'?
vildachaya1 12:27:38 PM
I came into a huge collection of classical CDs that weren't opened through an inheritance. I took them to HMV where they were willing to let me trade them one for one - so I traded in the Beethoven, Mozart, etc for Sun Ra
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:28:28 PM
Wow, that was a wonderful deal for you! Shrewd!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:29:50 PM
Patrick, that would be entertaining. This band would make a good halftime show, expand NFL's international popularity. The Eagles will be playing their first game of the year in Sao Paolo. For real
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:32:01 PM
#9 will always love you!
Russell Woessner 12:32:03 PM
Sun Ra refuses to die!
vildachaya1 12:32:50 PM
How great would it be if instead of Usher, Marshall Alan walked out in his cosmic outfit.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:33:02 PM
The Modern Day composer Sonny Blount refuses to die!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:33:31 PM
It's time, he's 100 years old just about!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:12 PM
He should bust out of a box!
Brian D 12:34:22 PM
O espaço é o lugar
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:58 PM
Si!
vildachaya1 12:35:02 PM
Speaking of old, The Wild Bohemians, my Mardi Gras Band - lead our 40th Annual Mardi Gras Parade on South street in Philly this Sunday - Before the superbowl. Should be a blast
Mike Constantine 12:35:12 PM

vildachaya1 12:35:21 PM
Traditional Mardi Gras and New Orleans Jazz
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:36:40 PM
Benj, I know you will be inserting Ra and klezmer references that will be recognized by the enlightened few. Congratulations on that gig!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:37:13 PM
Mike, glad to see you are prepared for the future.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:38:13 PM

vildachaya1 12:43:06 PM
I like they started with the Bass taking the head on Sandman - cool arrangment
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:52:18 PM
Where is our iconographer?
Mike Constantine 12:52:44 PM
right
vildachaya1 12:54:11 PM
There's a vocal jazz song that ends with James Moody You Can Blow Now if you Want to ... We're Through... I used to hear it a lot on WPRB - Who did that tune?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:54:36 PM
Benj, I think I said this last week, how often are bass players who take the lead so interesting and fun? Yeah, real good, Benj, and you should still be putting out recrdings.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:55:02 PM
King Pleasure
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:55:39 PM
referencing the James Moody/Betty Carter original
Brian D 12:56:29 PM
Searching that phrase leads to the Eddie Jefferson version of Moody's Mood for Love too
Brian D 12:56:59 PM
Found out about Eddie Jefferson thanks to WPRB
Brian D 1:01:07 PM
That Brasil Sun Ra thing was great. Yes they had some Portuguese bits in there. Mostly English tho
vildachaya1 1:03:00 PM
Cool thanks . I discovered a lot of great music at Jerry's 3rd Street Jazz - now WPRB is my access to his wisdom
Brian D 1:05:41 PM
Deep Space People
Brian D 1:06:12 PM

vildachaya1 1:39:49 PM
Same groove different tune..
Terry Kelso 1:40:05 PM
santana in the early days a geat version of fried neckbones and homefries
vildachaya1 1:41:31 PM
Yup - I actually learned it from playing in a latin band that does it. One great thing about playing with other musicians and going from band to band is all the music you learn
Steve Mundt 1:41:51 PM

Brian D 1:42:01 PM
Awww beep beep! Bang bang!
vildachaya1 1:42:09 PM
And you realize no, it wasn't written by Joe the bass player, it was written by Santana -
Brian D 1:42:10 PM
Feel good tunes
Steve Mundt 1:42:17 PM
Seems Alice Coltrane and friends played here in August 1971
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:42:28 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:45:01 PM
Steve, thank you so much. Everyonce in a while I go into research mode trying to find out more about the date and location of that show. Yes, the Arena! Did you find a mention of the concert anywhere? Thanks for filling in an air pocket of my brain with this info.
Brian D 1:45:01 PM
I think Fried Neckbones was written by Willie Bobo
Allan 1:45:04 PM
Good day Jerry and everyone
Steve Mundt 1:46:00 PM
The setlist link inlcudes Nikki Giovanni and Pharoah Sanders on the bill, not much more
Mike Constantine 1:46:07 PM
Hi Allan
Allan 1:46:28 PM
Hi
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:46:36 PM
Ust found it thanks to you, Steve! 8/29/71!
jim 1:47:02 PM
'bang bang' was the jam at PU Black student parties in the late 1960s
vildachaya1 1:47:31 PM
Ah ok - Willie Bobo not Santana - it is tough to track all this - and does it really matter if we're playing the song at a farmers market and there's more vegetables tham people listening?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:47:51 PM
Hey Allan, glad to see that boyish hippie face of yours. You will like Jerry's Room today. Hope you are well.
Terry Kelso 1:48:42 PM
it was bill graham that told carlos to lay off the long instrumentals and suggest evil ways by willie bobo
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:48:48 PM
Jim, your arrest at one of those parties doing the boogaloo is legendary!
Allan 1:49:25 PM
Hi Jerry. I’m well and hoping the same for you. Can’t wait for The Room
Lance Gardner 1:50:41 PM
Hi Jerry, Is Will Jr visiting your house today?
Mike Constantine 1:51:50 PM
That's Rico Calamari to you
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:52:10 PM
Hi Lance! No, but he is my inspiration.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:53:39 PM
You are so right, "Rico Calamari's" airplay and endorsement of salsa music is one of the many unique paths Will has taken and exposed us too! Thank you for that!
Lance Gardner 1:53:58 PM
Rico, yes, how are you?
Lance Gardner 1:54:58 PM
When are you coming back?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:55:33 PM
Lance, Rico recalls you and his cousin Mike fondly! I hope he comes back!
vildachaya1 1:55:54 PM
You are hitting all the sweet spots today jerry. Dan Hicks & Hot Licks did a lovely version of this song My Dad....
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:56:22 PM
