I'm sure Dana loved that. Ok, now to fix!
Classy Pat 5:10:24 PM
Hey everyone!
DSM 5:11:27 PM
Jon (1) was bug dead or alive?
Brian D 5:12:03 PM
Putting the little "G" in the mix makes it all scary. As in JS (1) (Ghost)... etc
Jon Solomon (host) 5:12:13 PM
The bug was alive. Both before, during and after it exited my mouth.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:12:38 PM
I released it into the wild soon thereafter.
DSM 5:13:12 PM
quite the adventure for you both, then!

Jon Solomon (host) 5:27:23 PM
I was not able to find one.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:27:36 PM
There are some in-studio covers of it that rip though.

Jon Solomon (host) 5:46:42 PM
DSM, I got to go to my favorite donut spot in Rhode Island this weekend and because I asked nicely they added maple frosting to the cinnamon roll I purchased that was the size of my head.
DSM 5:48:21 PM
Oh wow, what/where is this donut place? I remember a good one in Waverly RI...
TAndy🍌 5:48:22 PM
I need to go there.
Carlos Ramone. 5:48:27 PM

TAndy🍌 5:50:39 PM
Jon Solomon (host) 5:50:49 PM
It is worth the trip. Brought back a dozen for myself and dozen for my pops.

DSM 5:54:21 PM
ok, had to tell my 'puter it was not a security risk
Jon Solomon (host) 5:54:43 PM
Sorry, should have converted to .jpg.
DSM 5:55:01 PM
That cinnamon roll is insane!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:55:35 PM
It was very large and very delicious. I saved about 40% of it for when I got home on Sunday to house with my family. Plus the two Sally's pies I returned with. I know how to party.
DSM 5:55:52 PM
Did you eat that while driving? I imagine looking over and seeing someone eating that and laughing myself off the road lol
Jon Solomon (host) 5:56:05 PM
Dude at Sally's heard me say I was going to NJ and offered to not cut the apizzas so they would reheat better. A champ.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:56:24 PM
I had some of it in the parking lot, my assistant handed it to me while driving south on 95 a few times.
DSM 5:56:54 PM
oh wow, wasn't aware of that non cutting pizza tip
DSM 5:57:11 PM
makes sense tho
Jon Solomon (host) 5:58:08 PM
Got a rosemary potato pie and a "sauce pie" with hot peppers.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:58:38 PM
(Which accidentally was nearly a sausage pie.)
Classy Pat 5:59:18 PM
this rosali album cover triggers my fear of nature
jimbooooooo 5:59:25 PM
My bro brought some Sally's or Pepe's (forgot which) and what we couldn't eat we put on porch to keep cold in winter and next morning saw a squirrel absconding with a slice up a tree. Lil buggers know quality!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:59:47 PM
"Aimee Mann covering Jason Molina" is how this song feels to me.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:00:13 PM
The Sally's in New Haven was CLOSED when we were there on Friday so I had to hit up their Stamford location on Sunday right when they opened.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:00:33 PM
C'mon, squirrel!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:01:19 PM
I heard a podcast host I like a good deal say "New Haven style pizza?!" dismissively recently and I realized how little he had truly lived.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:05:52 PM
jimbooooooo 6:06:04 PM
I thank squirrel for teaching me life lesson: no new haven za leftovers!!!
Brian G 6:06:29 PM
I've really got to get up to some CT pizza business. Can't believe I've gone this long without trying
DSM 6:07:26 PM
I need to experience more New Haven style to really have an opinion of it. Only had a couple times.
TAndy🍌 6:07:57 PM
I need to find more reason than pizza to make the long drive or expensive train ride up there
DSM 6:09:00 PM
Liked that Pissed Jeans song quite a bit
Brian G 6:09:07 PM
That Hurl song reminded me a little of Mission of Burma. So good!
Carlos Ramone. 6:09:37 PM
Dagwood comic strip..Dag do you like leftover pizza for breakfast? Never had any.. never had pizza for breakfast? Never had leftovers
DSM 6:10:07 PM
TAndy, Matunuk Oyster House is an added bonus up there, and the beach facing south covered in rocks is kinda kinky
DSM 6:11:01 PM
lol Carlos
Jon Solomon (host) 6:11:55 PM
Brian, the post-Hurl band Taking Pictures is even more Mission of Burma somehow.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:12:18 PM
TAndy, there are three different amazing free art museums in New Haven you can build a day around.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:12:36 PM
New Haven pizza and Trenton pizza have a lot in common (positively).
Brian D 6:13:14 PM
YEAH! This sounds very Superchunkish
Jon Solomon (host) 6:13:46 PM
My daughter did a student film with this song on the soundtrack. I was pretty psyched that she chose to use it for part of the score.
Brian G 6:14:12 PM
Re: Taking Pictures - Noted!

No, the Taking Pictures / Hurl drummer.

Brian D 6:17:32 PM
Box Set # 6 curated by Idris Elba ... am reading about this now and did not realize yet another Fela reissue (vinyl this time) set is happening and happening...
Brian D 6:17:43 PM
Jon Solomon (host) 6:18:33 PM
Woah. Thanks, Brian! I still have about 15 Fela CDs I was given from Pat O's collection to work through first...
Brian D 6:19:18 PM
Oh and 2024 Wed eats! Ya... baked salmon with Za'taar seasoning/pine nuts/lime/smoked paprika. Griddle pan zucchini coins all striped up w/char. Shredded brussels sauteed. White rice. mmmm
Jon Solomon (host) 6:19:50 PM
Nice! I had a pesto / pasta bake with vegan cheese and red pepper flakes my kid made me.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:20:13 PM
Forgot about the Brussels sprout + mustard seed pizza I had on Friday! Also good!
Brian G 6:22:50 PM
So I'm new to the chat and very psyched to see recipe/food sharing
Jon Solomon (host) 6:23:18 PM
Brian, you've come to the right place.
Brian D 6:23:31 PM
My wife is trying many many alt cheeses (DF) and alt bread/cake stuff (GF). We found a cashew "French Style" (hahahah) Cashew Cheese which is a spread like Boursin. Herbed really surprisingly good. Then... there a lot of fails in the trial adventure but she appreciates that. Gotta try to try
Brian D 6:24:18 PM
Treeline is the brand of that one (apparently they get some good ratings from what she saw)
Jon Solomon (host) 6:24:45 PM
My wife is allergic to most tree nuts so cashew cheese is literally off the table but I've been surprised by this new coconut-based cheese that seems to be at all the places who would sell such a thing. They have provolone and gouda slices I've used on sandwiches.
Brian G 6:25:04 PM
Well after about a year and a half of logging in unsuccessfully (have to log in twice?) I'm happy to finally be more than a lurker
Jon Solomon (host) 6:25:44 PM
Welcome aboard. Glad to have you in the fold.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:25:54 PM
This is the stuff I bought -
DSM 6:27:14 PM
My girlfriend is vegan so I've tried a lot of vegan cheeses, kinda hit and miss, but of one note beware of the high saturated fat content of some of them.
Brian D 6:27:19 PM
The Happy Mixer GF bakery locations around here have some good sandwich bread and rolls acc to her. The desserts are hit or miss. But there is a bakery right near us in Dublin, PA "Sweet Victory" that really excels at the desserts.
DSM 6:27:54 PM
yeah the violife cream cheese is pretty good!
Brian G 6:28:11 PM
I like how all the pictures on that cheese site show how melty it can get. Looks great!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:28:14 PM
I'm sort of at an attempted "vegan except pizza" stage in my life, though if someone offered me a delicious sandwich with cheese on it I would not refuse it.
jimbooooooo 6:31:22 PM
New Yohhhhccccchhhhhhh
jimbooooooo 6:31:31 PM
Says Fela
DSM 6:33:50 PM
Brian G, yeah for some reason it always makes you sign in twice...but after that you're in. Tho it does make you re-hit the sign in button a lot for some reason
jimbooooooo 6:34:30 PM
h y p e r a f r o p o p o p o p 💥💥💥
Jon Solomon (host) 6:34:32 PM
I believe that's more of a Google sign-in issue? Could be mistaken.
Brian D 6:34:39 PM
Ya I still do it all. But I am so glad she can enjoy a homemade pizza and am happy to make 2 separate ones. For hers: Bob's Red Mill gluten free pizza dough flour. And some POURABLE faux-mozzarella that really works she says. The fake cheese scientists found that you can't really "get there" with a solid block or shredded block of fake mozz. The cold pourable bottle of liquid really works. You pour it on the sauced dough in thin lines.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:34:57 PM
Nice, Brian.
Brian G 6:34:58 PM
@DSM - Thanks! Whatever the case, I'm glad it finally worked
DSM 6:35:08 PM
Could be, don't have facebook so I've never tried that one
Jon Solomon (host) 6:35:54 PM
I dream of Spinitron rolling out a login option not tied to anyone else. Someday, perhaps.
Brian G 6:36:03 PM
@Brian D: Glad you found a good melty solution! Back in the day, I always had trouble with vegan cheeses not being melty enough
DSM 6:36:16 PM
Brian D, where do you find the pourable mozz at?
Brian G 6:39:03 PM
@Jon: It's always the balance of making people sign up for something new vs. the devil you know
DSM 6:39:09 PM
I've had good luck with the Daiya deli style slices melting pretty well for a classic american cheese style grilled cheese sandwich.
Brian G 6:39:27 PM
Or money reasons lol
Jon Solomon (host) 6:40:19 PM
Daiya never melted quite right on pizzas for me. But it has been a while since I tried them. Glad to hear they do slices now.
Rob from Maryland 🦅 6:40:38 PM
Hey Jon, I'm glad you got your name fixed!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:40:43 PM
You too, Rob!
Wax 6:43:10 PM
jon, the grill has been relinquished
Jon Solomon (host) 6:43:34 PM
Oh awesome. Thank you, Wax. Will look for it later tonight.
DSM 6:44:44 PM
I have one of those "sandwich makers" from the 80's (maybe for kids?) that delivers heat from both sides and cuts it into triangles for you... I think something about high heat from both sides is what melts it up. Yeah never had good luck making pizza with it either...
TAndy🍌 6:47:04 PM
This is so awesome
Jon Solomon (host) 6:47:49 PM
A question for the locals: Has anyone tried the new doner kabab place at Quakerbridge Mall? Their targeted ads have me curious about some of their non-meat options...
Brian G 6:47:53 PM
I always wanted one of those when I was younger
Brian G 6:48:13 PM
My friend sent me a coupon and said it was really good!
Brian G 6:48:32 PM
I've been meaning to try
Jon Solomon (host) 6:48:55 PM
Oh nice. Thanks, Brian. It is on my list.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:49:20 PM
Check the playlist for an underwear commercial that uses this song for the soundtrack...
jimbooooooo 6:49:40 PM
Jon Solomon (host) 6:50:51 PM
Jimbooooo, I heard a Fall-related thing today that will blow ya mind.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:51:13 PM
Let me find the link.
jimbooooooo 6:51:17 PM
Am leaping in mah kitchen
DSM 6:51:27 PM
Haven't had that, but I do love the ramen spot in the Quakerbridge mall
Jon Solomon (host) 6:51:27 PM
Jon Solomon (host) 6:51:53 PM
"Imagine it's 1980: The Rolling Stones fire Mick Jagger, hire brash upstart Mark E. Smith as their new singer and record one last album. This one. "Grotesque Rescue" mashes up the music of The Stones' "Emotional Rescue" with the vocals of The Fall's "Grotesque." It works far better than it should."
jimbooooooo 6:53:01 PM
Coooool, will check it out!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:53:25 PM
It is sold out (for now) but I gotcha if you needcha.
Brian G 6:54:20 PM
@Jon - Oh wow, Friends Are Ghosts *IS* even more Mission of Burma-esque than Hurl. This is... something else
jimbooooooo 6:55:23 PM
I will send you forthwith a piece of Fall ephemera that you will enjoy
Jon Solomon (host) 6:55:42 PM
The "No Bulbs" 12" + 45 I can't seem to procure?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:56:27 PM
Brian, I'm biased but I loved that band a bunch.
jimbooooooo 7:00:34 PM
I cannot produce that for you
Jon Solomon (host) 7:01:09 PM
Well, it was worth a try.
Randy Marthins 7:02:36 PM
Happy International Clash Day!!! Did I hear someone threaten to play "Cut The Crap?" --- "I don't think it really exists"
Randy Marthins 7:03:50 PM
I was listening to a Clash show from Minnesota State University --- LOVE that accent dontcha know
Rob from Maryland 🦅 7:03:53 PM
Happy Anniversary, Jon!
Randy Marthins 7:04:32 PM
Brian G 7:07:09 PM
Hey Happy Anniversary! It's mine (ours) too!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:08:51 PM
I wondered if this was that Brian! Mine was actually Monday but I wasn't on the radio then. Happy anniversary, sir!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:09:15 PM
Randy, I did (jokingly) say I was going to play Cut The Crap in full tonight.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:09:31 PM
Thanks, Rob.
Brian G 7:10:18 PM
Haha, yup! It's that Brian
Brian G 7:10:39 PM
And thank you
Jon Solomon (host) 7:11:20 PM
I know a surprising number of 2/7 birthdays on top of your anniversary. My sister, J Dilla, others...
Jon Solomon (host) 7:12:13 PM
Have to remember to call her after my show, which is why I'm typing these words.
Brian G 7:12:40 PM
Typing things out is the only way I remember anything now
Jon Solomon (host) 7:13:46 PM
I keep a running list during the day. Everything is equal weight. So, "pay estimated taxes" goes on the same list as "empty dishwasher."
Brian G 7:14:25 PM
Literally the same here
Brian G 7:15:12 PM
"Doctor referral, order syrup from Vermont, send wedding gift to cousin"
Jon Solomon (host) 7:15:37 PM
Yup. Feels good to have a couple easy ones on there so you feel like you're accomplishing anything.
Randy Marthins 7:18:23 PM
You could also say "everything has equal 'wait'"
Brian G 7:18:31 PM
It's a nice way to trick yourself into doing things. Big fan
Brian G 7:18:59 PM
@Randy: You get it
Jon Solomon (host) 7:20:55 PM
My list right now only has "finish Gangs of New York" on it.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:21:05 PM
Which probably won't happen tonight.
Brian G 7:23:24 PM
The seems like the right amount of things for a list
Jon Solomon (host) 7:24:24 PM
Each time I sit down to watch more of it I'm not quite in the right mood.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:25:38 PM
The podcaster Matt Gourley has a whole thing about "good movie, bad day / bad movie, good day / good movie, good day / bad movie, bad day."
Brian G 7:26:38 PM
Yep. That's how I was with "Monster" Took like 6 months to finally watch it
Jon Solomon (host) 7:28:57 PM
Need to find the right movie for your day, basically. "Green Room" was a movie I really wanted to see but I understood I would have to wait until "during daylight with my family not home for 100 minutes" was the only scenario that made sense.
Brian G 7:32:24 PM
Whoa, adding this one to the list
Jon Solomon (host) 7:33:24 PM
Green Room is intense! But it is also, in a way, the most realistic movie about touring as a punk / small band I've ever seen.
David Shortell 7:38:01 PM
The Aileen Wuornos biopic which Charlize Theron uglified herself for, Brian G?

From IMDB: "A punk rock band is forced to fight for survival after witnessing a murder at a neo-Nazi skinhead bar." --- so, it's "The Warriors?"
Maggie Schreiter 7:40:47 PM
have returned to listener chat. I think I've commented on those giant cinnamon rolls before. delightfully jealous.
Maggie Schreiter 7:41:13 PM
it's not QUIIIIIITE the warriors, less.. dystopia?
Jon Solomon (host) 7:41:21 PM
Maggie, it is an annual tradition. But, last year when I got there they were sold out.
Maggie Schreiter 7:42:24 PM
I used to get the one pound buns from vegan treats. mmm.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:42:40 PM
They could not have been nicer when I asked about a slather of maple icing. My wife is not a donut person but she loved what was left of the cinnamon roll when I made it back to NJ.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:43:07 PM
The one drawback about the roll was after having it I haven't had much urge to destroy the dozen donuts I came back with! They're in the freezer at present.
Randy Marthins 7:44:20 PM
Thanks @Maggie, that's hopeful/helpful

@David: Yeah, though there may be a more charitable word than uglified
Jon Solomon (host) 7:44:52 PM
Somehow I caught the jelly donut filling that came out of my dad's donut before it hit the car upholstery. This is my super hero origin story.
Brian G 7:45:40 PM
That's a talent

Jon! Thank Youuuuuu! Night everyone!
Kelly Nielsen 7:55:30 PM
Thanks for the great show, Jon! Really enjoyed the Pissed Jeans and the Uranium Club. The Jazz June was fantastic. +1 on the Green Room as punk tour representation. Have a great night!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:55:49 PM
Kelly, thanks so much!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:55:58 PM
DSM! You are welcome! What a fun time.
TAndy🍌 7:56:03 PM
Great show tonight, Jon! I was just getting into high school when that live session was recorded.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:56:44 PM
TAndy, it is weird to think about it being that long ago. As of 2014 their friend they reunited for was seemingly cancer-free. Hopefully that's still the case.
Maggie Schreiter 7:56:55 PM
thanks jon! liking this bodega. wonder if they have any cats
