Patrick White 6:45:48 PM
I’ve never actually watched the Grammies but I always enjoy hearing this song.
Patrick White 6:51:22 PM
Grammies haven’t been the same since they eliminated polka category. That Jimmy Sturr was a juggernaut
Ambrose Hughes (1) 6:54:20 PM

Greetings Ambrose. The real suspense is what bluegrass album John is going to select.let’s hope it’s not Billy Strings!!
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:01:48 PM
@Patrick😆😜
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:02:26 PM
The Greenbriar Live On! They're (not so) ragged but (very!) right ... :-))
Patrick White 7:02:36 PM
My introduction to blue grass was in mid 70s.at JFK STADIUM. I ran onto the feel after the Army Navy game and tore up some grass as a souvenir. For some reason they painted the grass blue that day
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:03:49 PM
@Patrick😝
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:04:39 PM
I found my copy of Ragged But Right by the Greenbriar Boys in a bin of a (now long gone) record store In Princeton's Palmer Square that actually carried bluegrass and old-timey music. Oh, my ...
richard lyons:) 7:04:57 PM

THIS💥
David Shortell 7:11:48 PM
Did the Greenbriar Boys record the first version of Michael Nesmith's "Different Drum"?
Patrick White 7:13:00 PM
Didn’t know there was a McKinley assassination song.Shame their was never a song about the assassination attempts 2 weeks apart of the great Gerald R Ford!!
John Weingart (host) 7:14:22 PM
Re Different Drum - yes, though not on this album
Patrick White 7:15:12 PM
Roll on John was written as a tribute to …..Music you Cant Hear on the Radio!!
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:18:43 PM
@ Patrick White Gosh, I do not remember the name of that magical record store in Palmer Square ... but! ... I can tell you it was at # 9 Palmer Suqare West, which is now half of the Faherty store.
John Weingart (host) 7:19:59 PM
Written long before I was born (Roll On John)
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:21:08 PM
The version of Mike Nesmith's "Different Drum" as arranged by Greenbriar Boys guitarist/lead singer John Herald -- which inspired Linda Ronstadt to record her big hit version -- is on the group's third full studio album "Better Late Than Never."
Patrick White 7:22:35 PM
John when you choose between history and legend……print the legend!!
Michael from Frenchtown 7:24:17 PM
Who sang lead on Roll on John?
John Weingart (host) 7:27:19 PM
Ralph Rinzler
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:29:58 PM
As highly acclaimed as have been the Greenbriar Boys as pioneering "citybillies" (urban dwellers who played Southern "hillbilly" music), they are STILL underrated. John Herald was one of around best lead singing/flatpicking solos guitarists. Bob Yellin was (and I'm sure still is) a killer 5-string banjo picker, rooted in Scruggs method but branching up and up in innovation; and Ralph Rinzler was a mandolin player both sturdy and imaginative (melding ragtime with Bill Monroe style).
Russell Woessner 7:33:27 PM
Squeaky Fromme and Sara Jane Moore, who both attempted unsuccessfully to shoot Gerald Ford, are featured in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Assassins. And Squeaky is one of the subjects of London Wainwright III’s California Pruson Blues.
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:33:29 PM
Nice singer!

Patrick White 7:35:18 PM
Hey Russ I was at Clark Park today for the Charles Dickens birthday celebration.
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:35:26 PM
@Patrick😜
Patrick White 7:36:34 PM
Any of the listenership not aware John has a beautifully written eulogy to John Herald on his MYCHOR web page.
Patrick White 7:38:39 PM
Wow this Methodist song is making me think of converting
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:41:55 PM
@ Michael from Frenchtown Some true trivia: There was a 19-year-old singer/songwriter kid from the Midwest in the Greenwich Village folk scene c. 1961 who learned "Roll On, John" from Ralph Rinzler and then always credited Ralph for teaching him. His name was Bob Dylan.
Michael from Frenchtown 7:43:39 PM
Very cool, Richard.
Michael from Frenchtown 7:43:54 PM
And thank you, John.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:44:31 PM
In fact, Dylan got his big break opening for the Greenbriar Boys at the Gerde's Folk City club. The New York Times folk music critic went into raptures over Dylan and wrote the glowing review that truly launched Bob's career. Bob always remembered the GBB with great gratitude and affection.
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:46:59 PM
@Richard From Rocky Hill, ask Bob Dylan about The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem if you get a chance.
David Shortell 7:47:13 PM
I wonder how Squeaky liked Dakota Fanning's portrayal of her in "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood".
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:48:16 PM
@ Patrick White Yes, our John W. knew John Herald in his later years and always tried to spread the good word about Johnny H's tremendous talent ... but JH left us much too soon. The tribute on thre MYCHOR website is a definite must-read. Thanks for reminding us.
Patrick White 7:48:17 PM
Ambrose ..He said He likes their sweaters!!
Patrick White 7:49:43 PM
Richard John also has a tribute to me on his site. It’s titled Spinitroners who really annoy. Me!!!
Michael from Frenchtown 7:50:29 PM
Elijah Wald has an interesting post about Roll on John on his website. https://www.elijahwald.com/songblog/roll-on-john/
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:51:14 PM
@ Ambrose Hughes (1) If I have that remarkable opportunity I will ask Dylan about the Clancy Bros & Makem ... as soon as I'm done asking him about Ralph Rinzler & the GBB!
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:51:25 PM
@Patrick, those were some hot jumpers all right!😜
Ambrose Hughes (1) 7:52:44 PM
@Richard From Rocky Hill, NICE!👍

Chris Sowa 7:56:43 PM
Terrific show as always John!
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:57:05 PM
@ Michael from Frenchtown Thanks VERY much for the link to Elijah Wald's post. And, hey, everybody, there's a pic of the Ragged But Right LP's cover art. Now, THAT itself taught me lots: I figured out that the GBBs were playing in B-flat. I was so naive, I thought bluegrass was only played in G! And i learned the famous big bluegrass mandolin "chop-chord" position from Ralph's photo capture playing it.
Richard from Rocky Hill 7:58:15 PM
@ John Weingart (host) Such a special show, thank you so much.
Patrick White 7:59:14 PM
Thanks John . Looking forward to your annual Super Bowl show next week.
Russell Woessner 8:00:21 PM
