Music

With Krista

Habitat Enrichment is the concept of introducing novelty to an animal's enclosure to keep it from getting bored or sad. Let me play you something fun. Genres span world and time, just like a cat with a box to play in.

Some specialties you can usually hear a little on my show: Luk Thuong, 60s crooners, cow punk, and synthwave. If you don't like the song currently playing, wait approximately 2 minutes for something else!

back in the new jersey groove

we've got new ones from my favorite currently working band

we've got new ones from nyege nyege tapes

we've got old ones from wisconsin

Krista (host) 7:01:09 AM
good morning
TAndy 7:02:24 AM
She's back!!!
Krista (host) 7:03:29 AM
yeaaaaahhhh boy
Krista (host) 7:04:46 AM
I've almost decided on Toolmaster of Brainerd as my theme song
TAndy 7:06:53 AM
I'll pre-promise a $10.33 pledge during the spring drive if you do that
Krista (host) 7:08:32 AM
problem with it is that if you give a dj a "toolmaster of brainerd" she's gonna wanna play tool after
Krista (host) 7:10:26 AM
the last time I had a Tool phase I was 15 years old and hoping to impress a boy initially. The boy was quickly forgotten as I had to focus ALL my energy on listening to Lateralus as many times as possible
TAndy 7:24:03 AM
Every Thorsday morning henceforth shall be known as Tool Time
TAndy 7:24:26 AM
Instead of a weekly animal we'll have a weekly power tool with maybe a hand tool every so often to keep people on their toes
Krista (host) 7:26:06 AM
my working knowledge of power tools is pretty limited. I think I can confidently use a couple different saws, a drill, a belt sander
Dale Hazelton 7:28:55 AM
morning. love this future islands.
TAndy 7:30:06 AM
All's ya gotta know is that higher voltage means more ugga dugga. Milwaukee and Bosch are KINGS. Makita is cool. DeWalt has NO PLACE in this house. ALWAYS using an impact driver for every task, including drywall. No substitutions.
TAndy 7:31:03 AM
Good morning Dale!
Krista (host) 7:31:08 AM
good morning, Dale
Krista (host) 7:32:18 AM
I've got a drywall ceiling lift on reserve to pick up after my show. My roof leaked after the snowstorm and now we gotta cut that part out of the ceiling and replace the drywall. it dried out pretty quickly but it looks absolutely terrible
Brian D 7:34:29 AM
Welcome back! Gotta have one of those rubber padded, shock case enclosed tool brand name radios for the job site of course. And... be sure it does not work correctly. Especially the ability to tune in radio stations. Paint stains required.
Krista (host) 7:36:51 AM
Hi Brian! I've got impact resistant glasses and an N95 and a hard hat. my dad was a union man at the coal plant so my PPE is good at least
Krista (host) 7:37:24 AM
I hope all the listeners on their job site radios are only able to tune in to WPRB
TAndy 7:37:48 AM
I blast WORB at my worksite every night. Good morning Brian!
Krista (host) 7:38:56 AM
while dog grooming I had a little mp3 player that only wanted to hold Sea Wolf and Daft Punk so that's what I listened to
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 7:38:59 AM

TAndy 7:41:20 AM

Brian D 7:41:52 AM
Hey what was before the Nick?
Krista (host) 7:42:52 AM
ah, good catch, lemme put that in
Krista (host) 7:43:44 AM
new one from Bill Ryder-Jones, I know that it's like this (baby)
Krista (host) 7:47:11 AM
does anyone recognize this singer? don't google, I was delighted when this popped up
Amy Lee 7:48:49 AM
I think it's an alias!? Came across my radar before but forget
Brian D 7:50:50 AM
First time I saw an non big name mp3 player was someone on a construction crew at a friend's house. 20-25 yrs ago. Nifty lil thing. Never was interested in the big name ones. Grabbed up some cheap lil "lipstick" sized ones later (1gb each whew! Phillips). Then I found a bunch of cheap Sansa Fuze + ones on eBay when people were getting rid of them heh. Still love those and break them out every now & then. Can load a bunch on them.
Dale Hazelton 7:51:05 AM
jerry landis/ tom and jerry i assume.
Dale Hazelton 7:51:59 AM
just a boy reminded me of pretty blue eyes by steve lawrence
Brian D 7:52:31 AM
Mind if we just change your name to McGanahan Skjellyfetti? Be less confusing...
Krista (host) 7:54:04 AM
Yes, Brian, I had a little one that held under a gb of music. I love finding them at thrift stores and seeing what people put on them. Same with any mix cds people leave
Brian D 7:54:34 AM
That was great when Jerry Gordon (not Landis) did the quizzes where he'd play young pre fame stuff like that Simon thing and you'd have to guess. Christine did really well i remember
Danosaur 8:00:36 AM
Listening from my rainy habitat in Los Angeles. Looking for some enrichment.
Brian D 8:02:26 AM
Rhythm of the Saints is even better. He really kept it going. Great 2 lp run there. Love the combo of Brazilian and African on Saints
Krista (host) 8:03:39 AM
"we digitized the carcass" - a line from "prism" that has captured my imagination. along with "combing through the data for the face of G-d inside"
Dan Ruccia 8:05:45 AM
The buffalo (and bear and deer and whatever) definitely flipped upside down in my memory of it
Dan Ruccia 8:06:21 AM
Also that inevitably you could only carry 100 lbs of the digital carcass with you
Danosaur 8:06:27 AM
Wow! Oregon Trail.
Dan Ruccia 8:07:45 AM
I played so much Oregon Trail on the Apple IIs in my second and third grade classroom
Krista (host) 8:11:14 AM
exactly, Dan, we got taken to the
Krista (host) 8:11:47 AM
computer lab once a week and it we would ALMOST GET TO THE END only to be shuffled out of the computer lab. that was one of my first experiences of collective protest
Danosaur 8:11:59 AM
Digital Carcass would be a good band name
Krista (host) 8:12:22 AM
I laid on the floor and other children followed so they would have to drag or carry us out while the chosen ones tried to dodge the rocks down the river
zipperfly 8:13:56 AM
She who hath been chosen
Krista (host) 8:14:21 AM
I was never chosen to finish the game, I would get too ripped up and forever crash
Dan Ruccia 8:14:34 AM
Indoor recess was only occasionally long enough for us to get to the end. But inevitably we'd all die of cholera or whatever beforehand
Brian D 8:14:42 AM
Verse on this one that started around 8:10 sounds like Dwight Twilley "Girls" but very diff lyrics & instruments. Loved that Chamberlain or whatever it was doing the key strings
Krista (host) 8:14:47 AM
you gotta set those rations down to bare bone
Dan Ruccia 8:15:21 AM
Also, I remember playing later iterations of Oregon Trail (including one that was in first person??) with better graphics and more advanced gameplay that were never nearly as fun
Krista (host) 8:15:59 AM
the amazon trail was definitely not as fun
Dan Ruccia 8:16:09 AM
I'm sure the 3d animated version was called Oregon Trail 2000 or something
Dan Ruccia 8:16:48 AM
So many more fun ways to die on the amazon trail, though!
Krista (host) 8:17:43 AM
death by electric eel!!
Christine 8:17:46 AM
Krista!! Yaaay 🎧 🎶
Krista (host) 8:18:11 AM
Christine, your praises have been sung as a master of identifying voices!
zipperfly 8:19:23 AM
I fear the stingray sting
Brian D 8:21:23 AM

Christine 8:21:53 AM
This vibe 💯
Krista (host) 8:22:13 AM

This guy could be singing bad words that sound nice
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 8:28:00 AM
Have yous heard Hearts and Bones, the critically panned predecessor to Graceland? It's a personal cult classic of mine, very fun and quirky and beautiful
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 8:28:21 AM
Rhythm of the Saints, the one after Graceland, is also very good. Especially if you like percussion
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 8:28:45 AM
Also the newer oregon trail for switch is very good. Anyway off to the kitchen BAM
Krista (host) 8:29:05 AM
I love hearts and bones.
Krista (host) 8:29:21 AM
"one and one half wandering jew" is a hilarious way to describe a road trip with a son
zipperfly 8:29:56 AM
bacon and eggs please
Krista (host) 8:30:16 AM
car living: make it romantic? paul simon will, with "cars are cars"
Brian D 8:30:26 AM
I love Hearts and Bones! F the critics. Paul's entrance to the MTV era hee. Al DiMeola laying down searing lead gtr on Allergies. Saw the video for Rene & George Magritte and their Dog After the War first. That's a mouthful of a title that covers a lot of bottom corner MTV screen
zipperfly 8:31:56 AM
Thanks for the tip Krista.I must check out those Paul songs
Brian D 8:34:14 AM
And before that one, I watched the film One Trick Pony many times on the still new world of cable TV. Did not care or know about critics then either thank goodness. I liked the scenes of the guys in the band talking while on the road, killing time, doing music quizzes etc. Jonah Levin was Paul's alter ego then (maybe better than Jerry Landers). We got Late in the Evening out of that. Great for his live sets onward
Christine 8:34:34 AM
Hearts and Bones has been underrated, for some reason. Morning, Chef 🍳
Brian D 8:36:09 AM
Ya Chef E, Rhythm of the Saints is Paul's peak. Top o the world lp, tour and touring band members especially
Krista (host) 8:40:56 AM

Krista (host) 8:46:28 AM
completely out of line saxophone
Amy Lee 8:47:30 AM
A catchy little number though
Christine 8:50:46 AM
Those lines of praise in the John Grant track are gloriously specific and colorful 🫕 🐻‍❄
Danosaur 8:52:20 AM
Darn saxophones are getting way out of line
Krista (host) 8:55:03 AM
"i am captured by your spell from a world away...I want to show you I'm right" - truly romantic, the idea of a correction from a world away
Krista (host) 8:55:35 AM
another one he has like that, Christine, is "disappointing" where he names all the beautiful things that are disappointing compared to his lost love
Mok On Water 9:05:27 AM
enjoying the selections this morning. cheers
Krista (host) 9:10:23 AM
Thanks, Mok
