Brian D 3:14:02 PM
Great start Nora! Loving the tunes
Abe 3:15:12 PM
what Brian said
Bud Burroughs 3:16:14 PM
Yeah, the Ratboys tune was a particularly great start
TAndy 3:17:56 PM
That Tracy Chapman 💙💙
birrdy 3:18:07 PM
heck yeah! great song
Brian D 3:19:31 PM
Ya this is a fave
Nora (host) 3:22:43 PM
So glad!
Kevin L 3:23:14 PM
Yeah
Kevin L 3:25:18 PM
Someone else did that song too
Brian D 3:27:14 PM
A little blip on the "While one who sings with his tongue on fire. Gargles in the rat race choir. Bent out of shape from society's pliers. Cares not to come up any higher. But rather get you down in the hole that he's in. ... verse. Great stuff
Brian D 3:30:03 PM
Ha great album cover art here! Wild synth and harmonizer vocal
Brian D 3:44:54 PM
Weird wprb missing channel problem happening again. John's vocal is just about silent... barely audible
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 3:44:57 PM
Brian D, do you hear that? The vocal track is squelched
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 3:45:07 PM
You win
Brian D 3:45:43 PM
Yes. We'll just sit back and wait a few months Dave!
Bud Burroughs 3:45:46 PM
Yeah, it kinda sounds like the stereo track is squashed to mono with one of the channels too low. Or maybe the channels are out of phase.
Bud Burroughs 3:46:37 PM
Nora, are you broadcasting from home or the studio? FYI, your voice is a little quiet during the mic breaks.
Nora (host) 3:47:16 PM
im in the studio! Not sure what the issue might be
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 3:47:43 PM
I don’t think the barge ever had that issue
Brian D 3:48:26 PM
Bingo. Last time 2-3 years ago Mike L maybe said it was a bad cable or connection? Only happens on certain record player or cd player etc... you'll hear it on one song. Then not others. And sometimes it is only recognized on very obvious, well known songs with hard left right stereo panninh
Brian D 3:48:40 PM
Panning
Nora (host) 3:49:01 PM
does it sound OK now?
Brian D 3:49:10 PM
Nora it happened before. Not you. Just the equipment most likely
Nora (host) 3:49:15 PM
let me know if you have suggestions!
Nora (host) 3:49:20 PM
alright great
Brian D 3:50:19 PM
It happened on the Beatles song. It's hard to go track by track and know "is it happening now? " etc.. But when it happens it's really easy to spot
Bud Burroughs 3:51:13 PM
I just checked the stereo mix of Norwegian Wood. The vocals are panned hard to the right, sitar and other stuff on the left.
Brian D 3:52:13 PM
Happened a month or 2 ago on Methusalah Mouse show. Then again on someone else's show week or 2 later. It's definitely at the studio (not Barge) where it's occurring
Brian D 3:53:32 PM
That's it Bud. One channel is coming through both speakers. In this case it was the sitar one. Vocals sound like they are "in another room down the hall"sorta effect
Bud Burroughs 3:53:52 PM
I'm listening on headphones and everything sounds monophonic and slightly wonky.
Brian D 3:55:36 PM
M. Mouse show was Television "Marquee Moon ". Tom's high "phone ringing" guitar part was totally missing from the song heh
Bud Burroughs 3:57:08 PM
Brian, that checks out. I just checked Marquee Moon, and that guitar is also panned hard right.
Bud Burroughs 3:57:30 PM
Paging Mike L.!!!!
Brian D 3:58:53 PM
The last time 2-3 years ago i kept commenting and emailing then one day... on Dylan Fox Weird Old America show he played Creedence maybe Susie Q and FINALLY other people noticed. A really long song with no vocal for like 4-5 mins then where the band changed the pan, the vocals "magically" reappeared heh.. someone asked jokingly if it was a karaoke version
Brian D 4:01:18 PM
Then a week or so later on Sonny Boy 3 blues show Richard S and I heard it again... soon after Mike L broke into someone's show & said hold on, we're going off air for a minute to fix this! Lasted a few years..
Jon Solomon 4:04:09 PM
Catching up on this chat, will alert Mike plus WPRB's outside tech person.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 4:04:48 PM
To help us diagnose the problem, Nora, what equipment was used to air Norwegian Wood?
Nora (host) 4:05:10 PM
Oddly had it connected via my laptop
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 4:05:27 PM
Hmmm
Jon Solomon 4:05:41 PM
Aha! That's really helpful.
Brian D 4:06:03 PM
Only 1 guitar going on here in the Velvet U song. Kinda cool stripped down sound but.. not sure if this is some alt version. My bet is a channel is missing tho
Bud Burroughs 4:06:15 PM
Seems to be everything. This VU song has a guitar part that's panned hard right, and it's missing here.
Brian D 4:06:22 PM
No lead gtr part
Jon Solomon 4:06:27 PM
Perhaps first make sure the cable into your laptop is all the way in and secure?
Jon Solomon 4:06:56 PM
For whatever it is worth I had a similar issue testing my "home studio" before Xmas and the issue was the laptop's audio settings.
Nora (host) 4:07:17 PM
I believe it is. It sounds ok on 19A here too
Jon Solomon 4:07:59 PM
I would not worry about it right now and keep having a great show. I've let those who need to know know and it will get sorted!
Brian D 4:08:18 PM
I bet that's it Jon! Something in the way the headphone out jack or the usb c hi def out jack handles the output.
Brian D 4:08:32 PM
Yeah great tunes Nora! Loving your choices!
Bud Burroughs 4:09:19 PM
Indeed, tech weirdness aside, the tunes are killer!
Nora (host) 4:09:25 PM
Alright, great! Thanks everyone, and apologies for any issues that nught be on my end
Nora (host) 4:09:42 PM
Glad you're all enjoying
Mike Lupica 4:15:19 PM
Thanks to you all for sending up the distress beacon about the weird panning issue. I'll try to get down there ASAP to have a look.
birrdy 4:16:57 PM
Listening on wprb.com and sounding epic Nora!!
Brian D 4:18:26 PM
Eerie cool sounds with just the vocal, bass and drum here! Gtr and celeste ghostly barely audible. Crazy way to hear to it
Brian D 4:19:18 PM
Can really hear Scott's great vocal take wow
TAndy 4:48:24 PM
Unbelievably great first show for the season DJ Nora!
Colin 4:49:15 PM
great show! absolutely love this song!!
Brian D 4:51:09 PM
Great show Nora! Will definitely be tuning in each Tuesday afternoon!
Mike Lupica 4:51:53 PM
Any change in the stereo effect in the last few minutes?
Gautham Kalva 4:52:12 PM
Excellent show, count me in as a regular listener. Wondering if you like David Berman/Townes Van Zandt. I'm also on lookout for anybody similar to Courtney Banett/Father John Misty. Good stuff..
Brian D 4:53:20 PM
For me it has to be a song with really obvious stereo panning to know. Definitely heard on the Scott M. Not sure on the Daniel J... maybe
Brian D 4:54:02 PM
Ya that Father John Misty song is so good
Dan Ruccia 4:54:19 PM
Ahhh, the saw chorus!
Gautham Kalva 4:54:41 PM
Hey Mike, any subin shows this season? Please come back if you can for the summer schedule..
Nora (host) 4:54:48 PM
Wow thank you everyone! So happy everyone's enjoying. Happy to be back at WPRB
Brian D 4:55:22 PM
The 33 1/3 book on NMH is a great one. Good info on Jeff and the whole Elephant 6 people.
Nora (host) 4:55:23 PM
I am a David Berman fan! Perhaps he'll be on my playlist next week
Brian D 4:56:44 PM
More singing saw is needed in the world. Had a neighbor that played saw in the previous place we lived
TAndy 5:00:26 PM
Julian is a legend for the saw heheh
