| U. Srinivas “Siddhi Vinayakam Anisham” in Shanmugapriya M. Dikshitar Dawn Raga Real World 1995 U. Srinivas (28 February 1969 - 19 September 2014) was a child prodigy. He was the first musician to use the electric mandolin in Carnatic music. He modified the electric western instrument, using five single strings instead of the traditional four doubled strings to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially "gamakas", or nuanced oscillations. He developing a phenomenal style of playing entirely his own, and astonishingly, on an instrument that had never been played in the rigorous and difficult Carnatic style before. U. | Ustad Yunus Husain Khan Lalita Sohini: Khyal Darpan: Ustad Yunus Husain Khan - Khyal, Classical Vocal Music of North India RMP 2012 Yunus Husain Khan (1927-1991) is the son and disciple of Vilayat Husain Khan, vocalist representing the Agra gharana. When the old "dhrupad" style of Hindustani music gave rise to the "khayal" style, this led to individualized styles and eventually the different "gharanas" (schools or houses of musical styles). He was trained by his father Aziz Khan, the son of sitar and surbahar player Wahid Khan, who in turn is the son of Imdad Khan. The style is known as the Imdadkhani gharana or Etawah gharana. | Simon Shaheen & Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt Mists - Rag Pahari/Maqam 'ajam Saltanah - EP Water Lily Acoustics 2011 Vishwa Mohan Bhatt was born in Jaipur in 1950. He plays the "Mohan Veena", a heavily modified acoustic guitar. Simon Shaheen is a Palestinian musician, born in Israel in 1955. He plays oud and violin. (Ronu Majumdar joins on bansuri on this track.) Since the 1993 Grammy award winning CD "A Meeting By The River" with V. M. Bhatt and Ry Cooder, the Water Lily Acoustics label has been attempting to get lighting to strike again by bringing together all kinds of disparate musicians. (It does not always result in great music.) |

While studying music, Prabha Atre also earned a Bachelor of Science from Fergusson College in Pune, and completed a Bachelor of Law degree from University of Pune Law School. AND she earned a PhD in music. |

Jayaraman Khamaj / Khamas Raga Sudha Rasa Jugalbandi Volume IV Doordarshan Archives 2006 Hindustani Sarod player Amjad Ali Khan (born 1945 in Gwalior) and Carnatic violinist Lalgudi G. Jayaraman made a groundbreaking recording "South Meets North" in 1983, an early and rare duet between Carnatic and Hindustani musicians. Upon the success of that LP, they made several television performances, the audio from which was released on this CD. Broadcast date and accompanying artist were not identified on this CD. Presumed to be mid 1980's. |

He is widely acknowledged as a legend of the bamboo flute. His training has been mostly in vocal music, initially under his father, and then by Palghat K.V.
