Dawn Raga Real World 1995

U. Srinivas (28 February 1969 - 19 September 2014) was a child prodigy. He was the first musician to use the electric mandolin in Carnatic music. He modified the electric western instrument, using five single strings instead of the traditional four doubled strings to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially "gamakas", or nuanced oscillations. He developing a phenomenal style of playing entirely his own, and astonishingly, on an instrument that had never been played in the rigorous and difficult Carnatic style before.

Darpan: Ustad Yunus Husain Khan - Khyal, Classical Vocal Music of North India RMP 2012

Yunus Husain Khan (1927-1991) is the son and disciple of Vilayat Husain Khan, vocalist representing the Agra gharana. When the old "dhrupad" style of Hindustani music gave rise to the "khayal" style, this led to individualized styles and eventually the different "gharanas" (schools or houses of musical styles). The Agra gharana retains more of the dhrupad origins that most other gharanas.

Good morning, Padma
Roffle 9:10:00 AM

DJ Readie 9:11:05 AM
Such artistry on the modified mandolin!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:11:19 AM
Yes, Roffle, U. Srinivas in amazing
Sangeet Team (host) 9:12:12 AM
Sadly he died at age 45, still at the peak of his career
DJ Readie 9:12:39 AM
😢
Roffle 9:13:53 AM
I do not understand life, but only that we move on. We need this kind of spirit to hang around more though.
DSM 9:22:32 AM
Morning everyone ☕
Sangeet Team (host) 9:23:37 AM
good morning, DSM
Roffle 9:24:42 AM
Hi DSM! Morning it is!
DSM 9:24:58 AM
probably the wrong term, but I really like the slower tempo on this one
Sangeet Team (host) 9:25:56 AM
that's exactly the right term. As I said, the Agra gharana retains more of the old dhrupad origins, which is a slow and austere style
DSM 9:27:23 AM
oh good
Roffle 9:27:32 AM
Exactly, no need to rush a thing.
Roffle 9:29:03 AM
Get there.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:33:14 AM
that's the attitude that explains why some ragas take over an hour to fully present. the trick is to not get repetitive and boring
Dale Hazelton 9:33:29 AM
morning. this could be on the prog show.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:34:14 AM
For sure, Dale. Prog and Indian music are not too dissimilar
Roffle 9:37:47 AM
Definitely down with that. The places it goes are right there in many ways. I can't tell the various styles like north or south, but it's rich nontheless and that is worthy.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:38:04 AM
I mean, as far as complicated rhythms and imaginitive melodies
Sangeet Team (host) 9:38:32 AM
I have a north/south duet after 11:00
jimbooooooo 9:39:43 AM
Salutations on a saxy snowy Saturday!
Roffle 9:42:11 AM
Kinda like Appalachian music to me. I know it when I hear it, but Indian music is another world entirely. Love it!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:42:18 AM
Hellooooo Jimbooooooo
Roffle 9:42:52 AM
Hey Jimbooooooooooooooooo!
jimbooooooo 9:43:18 AM
Hellllloooooooooooooooo
Sangeet Team (host) 9:43:26 AM
@ Roffle, it's another world, for sure. You can spend a lifetime exploring. Endless depths
TAndy 9:46:39 AM
woooooooooo
Roffle 9:47:05 AM
Damn sure why I am here haunting this station
Sangeet Team (host) 9:47:16 AM

Rob from snowy Maryland 9:47:50 AM
Good morning everyone!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:48:42 AM
Hello Rob from MD. We got about 4 inches of snow around Princeton. How much did you end up with?
Rob from snowy Maryland 9:59:47 AM
Hello Dave. We got about/at least 3.5 inches of fresh snow inside the Beltway, then after dark a snow squall dumped another quarter or half inch on our cleaned-off driveway
DubNP 10:02:29 AM
Good morning !
Sangeet Team (host) 10:06:52 AM
good morning, DubNP

the_dude 10:15:43 AM
Great set today Dave! Everyone in the house is enjoying it. And Ive only ever been to one classical Indian performance and it was incredible, a mesmerizing experience, I have been wanting to go to more
Sangeet Team (host) 10:16:33 AM
Hey, dude. Good to see you. How's the baby?
the_dude 10:17:51 AM
We're good thank you! He feel asleep to the previous track, was a great lullaby Would like to show him a snowy walk but I think it's too cold still
the_dude 10:18:02 AM
How's you and your household?
Sangeet Team (host) 10:22:48 AM
All fine, thanks.
Padma 10:32:26 AM
Hyderabad Brothers' singing is so good with their great voices singing together
Sangeet Team (host) 10:35:10 AM
Have they ceased singing together? I recall only one brother came to sing in NJ a few years ago.
Padma 10:47:43 AM
@Sangeet Host you bring up an excellent point. It may be a delicate issue when the voice of the older of a duo may not be able to stand up to the rigors of concert performance. I am not saying it is the case here but it might very well be.
Ossy 11:41:57 AM
Awesoke sounds, morning Sangeet!
Sangeet Team (host) 11:44:34 AM
good almost afternoon, Ossy
DSM 11:54:46 AM
