Another night of gaming and haiku like sounds
deirdre dionysiac (host) 8:40:59 PM
Now i'm going to be thinking of how to turn the program into a haiku
TAndy 8:41:58 PM
You always know what to play
deirdre dionysiac (host) 8:46:30 PM
Gnome is livin' life. He always knows what to play. Just don't call his name.
Roffle 8:47:57 PM
Sweating through the sheets is why I do layers under the comforter for sure to kick off..
Guelo<3 8:48:01 PM
yesssss
deirdre dionysiac (host) 8:49:09 PM
Some songs I think aren't loud enough, so I crank it up only to see us redlining. Then I realize I just liked the song so much that I need it like, in my bloodstream. This whole album is that for me, apologies for any distortion we incur
Ossy 8:49:15 PM
Speaking gnomes, this Pluto Tv channel got a gameplay stream of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom
TAndy 8:50:34 PM
Zelda sure is known for it's gnomes.
Roffle 8:51:50 PM
Haiku is in the moment. That moment is one past. More minutes needed to think of haiku.
Ossy 8:51:58 PM
Can consider the Kokiri and Koroks as "gnomes" kinda
Ossy 8:52:10 PM
Forest gnomes in fact
TAndy 8:55:18 PM
yea
Rob from Maryland 8:56:48 PM
Oh WOW I haven
Roffle 8:56:50 PM
Actually is is 5-7-5 for haiku, but oh well.
Roffle 8:57:46 PM
I did 5-5-7. Bad me!
Rob from Maryland 8:57:53 PM
Oh WOW I haven't heard "Touch" in such a long long time! I taped this off a local overnight prog program in about 1980
Rob from Maryland 8:58:21 PM
... but I don't think the tape is playable any more
deirdre dionysiac (host) 8:58:25 PM
Heck yeah. This song rocks. I used to play it when i was late to the studio
Rob from Maryland 9:00:08 PM
For you DC types, the program was "Overnight Express" that ran midnight to 6 am Friday and Saturday nights on WAMU FM from the late 70s into mid 1982
Rob from Maryland 9:01:11 PM
deirde, it does rock! I heard it a few other times in the 80s, but taping it engraved it into my memory
Rob from Maryland 9:02:07 PM
*overnight prog & new wave program
Ira Te Mix 9:02:51 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland! I grew up in Maryland and listened to the "Overnight Express", especially after the demise of WGTB where many of those DJ's ended up until the "Overnight Express" was taken off the air sometime around 1983. The "Overnight Express" also played lots of Prog. with host Dr. Progresso....
Roffle 9:03:04 PM
@Rob, I used to tune into XPN back in those days when then they were insanely good. Trying to dial it in in bloody Moorestown! Now they hay towers that put out junk.
Ira Te Mix 9:04:12 PM
Rob, I wonder if we crossed paths sometime in the 1980s as I DJ'd on both WJHU & WMUC leaving Maryland not long after WJHU got rid of all of it's Volunteer DJ's .
iamthelabhras 9:15:45 PM
Should we be concerned about that gnome?
deirdre dionysiac (host) 9:16:53 PM
I thought that was what all of you did while tuning in but starting to surmise otherwise. Don't knock it though!
Richard D. Smith 9:28:38 PM
@deirdre dionysiac (host) Love tonight's playlist and love your show page illustration of the cozy & contented winter gnome. :-))
TAndy 9:32:05 PM
Love this record to bits
Rob from Maryland 9:32:23 PM
Hi Ira Te Mix! I used to stay up as late as I could on weekends to listen to Overnight Express. But that cut into spring & summer birdwatching. So sometimes when I left the house at 5 a.m. to go birding I'd pop a cassette in the player...
Rob from Maryland 9:32:55 PM
Roffle, I wish I'd been able to catch XPN when they were insanely good
deirdre dionysiac (host) 9:33:00 PM
This is excellent news Richard. And yeah, that bridge/time sig change in the middle made me release an audible "oooo!"
Rob from Maryland 9:33:59 PM
Ira, when was your show on WMUC? I remember WJHU when it was good, driving through Baltimore.
Guelo<3 9:36:50 PM
<3<3<3<3
TAndy 9:39:30 PM
Feel better Guelo!!
Ira Te Mix 9:39:39 PM
Yes, Rob, great memories of Underground Radio in the Balto-Wash, DC area in the 70s & 80s. Luckily WPRB and it's awesome hosts like Deirdre are keeping this art form alive. Roffle, where I lived in Columbia, Maryland I could sometimes pick up WXPN when Baltimore statiion WEAA on the same frequency was off the air. I knew they were great up until the changeover in 1986. And Rob I have been reading your posts here on the chat and am sure we attended many of the great concerts in Maryland.
Ira Te Mix 9:40:45 PM
Rob, I was on MUC from 82 to 84, my 1st shifts on MUC were I think Tuesday morning 7 to 9 am...I was on JHU for 3 years Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 PM.
deirdre dionysiac (host) 9:41:04 PM
Saw that you played something from that duo recently, Guelo. I was sleeping on Nujabes
deirdre dionysiac (host) 9:43:13 PM
Thanks for joining the chat and reaching across the generational aisle, so to speak, Ira
Rob from Maryland 9:51:15 PM
Ira, I also listened to WGTB, during its final 1 1/2 years. Deirdre is indeed keeping the art form alive. I didn't start listening to WMUC until late 1984, but when I did, it was even more important to me than WGTB and Overnight Express had been. WMUC is now at 90.5 at 15 (or 20?) watts, so we can once more hear the station while driving around, and not that horrid Baltimore NPR station on 88.5
Ira Te Mix 9:55:26 PM
You're welcome, Deirdre, I just love your show! Been listening for a while just never chimed in Especially love the obscurities and sounds from Japan. One of the greatest shows I ever experienced was Tomita playing a live outdoor show in Yokohama in 1989. Rob, too bad you did not start listening to WMUC in 82, we had some legends on the station back then, I too only started listening to WGTB around 1977....that changed my life! Yes, I know WMUC still survives at increased power.
Ira Te Mix 9:57:17 PM
BTW I am listening from Tampa, FL so good luck with the snow my Mid-Atlantic Friends. It's relatively cold here 50s and rain.
deirdre dionysiac (host) 9:59:07 PM
Ah, Tampa. I have family of sorts spread around St. Pete and Tampa
Guelo<3 9:59:44 PM
Thankd Deirdre for another great show.
Guelo<3 10:00:46 PM
oh theres another hour booyahhh lets goooo
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:01:03 PM
haha. i assumed you were off into fever dreams
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:01:42 PM
we need to hear more of wladimir's defenestration of the US of A
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:03:50 PM
in a few mins we're gonna go neck deep in those crunchy glitch/IDM tracks that sound like trudging through snow with your clothes addled with static electricity
TAndy 10:09:42 PM
This one just reminded me I need to check out the new Burial release
Rob from Maryland 10:12:27 PM
Ira, there's a dj on WMUC who first broadcast back in the late 80s ... Gary ?Young of the Irrelevant Show
TAndy 10:14:09 PM
Just skimmed a couple of vinyl rips on YouTube and yeah it's definitely not ambient for him anymore. Bit of disassociated sound collage and breakbeats. I like it. Its like an old rave cassette from the 90s but the way it's presented is like trying to remember it. All over the place and such, I liked what I heard.
TAndy 10:19:48 PM
So that's how it's pronounced... I kept saying it like "auww-tech-reh" lol
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:20:07 PM
Your guess is as good as mine!
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:21:04 PM
Ok quora search says it's my way, but our guess is as good as theirs. all is fair play in art
TAndy 10:22:06 PM
I already forgot how you pronounced it lol #brainworms
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:24:53 PM
Begone, hard to pronounce band names. This album was commissioned by the Sapporo factory to be played there. Canst thou smell the hops?
Rob from Maryland 10:27:26 PM
Autechre pronounce their name as 'autecker'. from https://www.soundonsound.com/people/autechre. I missed hearing it on air, I was in another room, is this how you say it deirdre?
TAndy 10:37:17 PM
Meow-teck-kruh
Rob from Maryland 10:41:08 PM
TAndy, 🐈
Rob from Maryland 10:41:42 PM
goodnight everyone. Hopefully there won't be too much snow for any of us mid Atlantic folks
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:42:36 PM
I'm very pro-snow, so send it all to my house, but do have housemates boarding a trans-atlantic flight tomorrow evening, so good luck to them! good night rob
TAndy 10:43:34 PM
Have a good night Rob! Hope the heaviest bands brought by the inverted trough miss you (and me) as well!
TAndy 10:44:17 PM
My area is right near the border edge of 2-4 inches and up to 6 inches so who knows. These types of systems are incredibly hard to predict until it's already bearing down.
TAndy 10:44:23 PM
Weather is so cool
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:45:23 PM
Well, I suppose we can all unite under that statement
TAndy 10:47:56 PM
I love this song
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:51:25 PM
🙂
TAndy 10:54:32 PM
Already that time :( thanks for the show, Deirdre. Looking forward to the season finale next week.
deirdre dionysiac (host) 10:59:03 PM
Is it really? Boy oh boy, the stops must be pulled!
TAndy 10:59:26 PM
Someone should make a rendition of Frosty but alter the lyrics to be about Gritty.
deirdre dionysiac (host) 11:00:03 PM
Ha, the last sports-themed winter album from the city was a hit, why not
