Yes, I had a meeting Tues. night but they did it by zoom.

@Number 6 - Phew! Yeah, it got really blustery and scary in NW Philly by Tuesday evening. All day long I balked at the warnings because the weather wasn't that bad until later in the evening, at least near me. All my kid's afterschool activities were cancelled!

@Rob from Maryland - I bought myself Sundance Film Fest tickets for the end of this month - online-viewing - and there is a hummingbird rehabilitation documentary in competition for Best U.S. Doc!

@Lizbot, I hope the humingbird doc wins in its category

@Rob from Maryland - The hummingbird doc is called "Every Little Thing," and it's about a woman in L.A. who cares for injured hummingbirds. Of course I bought a ticket for that one!

@Lizbot, birding is ok. The weather has kept me indoors with all that rain. I did go to a local lake to look for ducks, after a dentist appointment. I saw 4 species that I hadn't yet seen this year.

@Lizbot, the reading that title puts a Police song on replay in my head. The hummingbird healer sounds like a nice person. I'm sure that you will enjoy the movie!

@Rob from Maryland - A couple years ago I saw an excellent doc at Sundance online about a man in India who cares for hundreds of wild Indian ringneck parrots. He dedicates his life to prepping food and feeding them and rehabilitating injured ones. His neighbors are NOT his biggest fans!

@Rob from Maryland - Oh wait, it was kites. not ringnecks! It's been a few years since I saw that doc. WRT the ringneck parrots: I'm thinking of my friend Leah's mom, also in India, who cares for injured wild ringnecks

@Rob from Maryland - And it's two brothers in Delhi who care for the kites. It was a good doc, AND the seed of the idea for the filmmaker was actually an article written in the New York Times by former WPRB DJ, Oliver Whang!

@Rob from Maryland - Oliver did a music show and also WPRB News Dept about 8 years ago or so

All That Breathes (the Indian kites doc) got nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Documentary and it won Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema Documentary Competition at Sundance in 2022. The article it was based on is from 2020. I remember reading it when it first came out. Glad an excellent doc came out of it

I don't think ever caught Oliver's shows. And yay re the documentary

@Ossy - Well yeah, Everybody Plays the Fool is a classic, but I love to mix it into a PRB show! When my husband was studying bass at U.Arts over two decades ago, one of his professors had him listen to that song, and certain other classic soul songs, like tracks of my tears, to play attention to the basslines in those songs

"It Doesn't Have To Be That Way" sounds a bit like it's from the perspective of someone about to switch careers or get a divorce

Though there are lines I don't understand so it may be intended to be about something else entirely

@Wes Steenson - The two eras of XTC are so distinct from each other, and of course the early XTC sound didn't last as long, but I am very fond of that post-punk-era XTC

@Lizbot @Ossy One summer back in my bar band days I went to Sam Goody’s and bought three 3 LP compilations from Motown - The Best Of The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Temptations. I spent the summer taking a crash course in James Jamerson bass. It definitely made me a better musician.

They used to record the shows on a computer in the main studio, but that busted years ago.

@Number 6 - I never even did that, but I know people who did. I used to record my show on CASSETTE tape a million years ago! The cassette played in the PRB studio back then used to flip automatically and it would start recording over what you already recorded if you weren't careful!

@Number 6 - I have a computer streaming the station and recording it at home while I'm at the Barge, BUT I don't always remember to set that up before I leave!

Years later, Steve Slutsky (Dr Licks) did something similar, transcribing Jamerson’s bass parts from classic Motown records. That project led to Standing In The Shadows Of Motown.

@Wes Steenson - Oh believe me, the U.Arts staff definitely impressed much James Jamerson playing into the bass students! Rightfully so

@Wes Steenson - It's so incredibly sad that James Jamerson died basically broke of alcoholism so young after providing such an iconic sound on so many classic soul albums

@Wes Steenson - Yeah, I remember that doc well. George & I rented it from ye olde mail-order DVD Netflix of yore. At some point, someone gifted me a DVD of it.

@Lizbot- I used to go in that back room and copy my shows onto a flashdrive. How do you record your shows now? I was trying to figure it out.

@Wes Steenson - Darlene Love experienced a resurgence in interest after another doc from that period, 20 Feet from Stardom, came out. She was cleaning houses in L.A. around that time and one of her songs came on the radio in the owner's house and she started singing along to her own song - It was Christmas Baby Please Come Home fro the Phil Spector Christmas Gift to You album - and the owner couldn't believe it was actually her!

I play everything off of my laptop and record it in Mixxx, but the mic breaks are all blank.

I just figured out in Audacity how to stitch all of the music parts together.

Also good for getting the mean nasty ugly words out of songs.

@Number 6 - I prefer MIxxx and use it when LRBing, but in studio at the Barge, (like I am right now,) I have to use Traktor because Mixxx doesn't work for me here. It's so easy to record shows while LRBing, but not so much at from the studio!

I have Traktor Pro, I need to figure out how to use it.

@Number 6 - I use Logic at home for editing naughty words outta songs before I put them in playlists. I find that the least stressful because then I know I don't have to wait poised by the slider and slide it down at just the right moment

I weirdly haven’t listened to this David Byrne album in a while! Time to bust it back out.

@Number 6 - I just have the free version of Traktor. It works fine on a Mac. It has only glitched out once for me in the past 6 months, and thankfully not DURING a show!

@Addie - This one always gets stuck in my head! I think it really sums up the anxiety I feel when I host a party! Like, i WANT to, but I also dread it to an extent!

@addie - also, I have the album and the live American Utopia versions, but I kinda prefer the live version of this song

@Lizbot-I'll be bringing another laptop in to record, because my internet isn't so hot. I can record with the OBS software, but it makes it into MKS files.

@Michael McCool - Crazy! I've been there a handful of times and never realized that! Belle & Sebastian had an after-party there a couple decades ago that I went to, and a Fringe Fest party and a few other events, ages ago, and I remember some of the art in there, but I need to revisit it with this new info! Haven't been there is so long, but I assume it's still open

@Addie - EXACTLY! I know Byrne is a cagey anxious person who likes to have social events/dance/perform, but also struggles with anxiety, and I very much relate! I don't regret when I host an event, but good god, it can be overwhelming sometimes! He really captures it

@Number 6 - Hmmm, lemme know how that works! I need a better system because, if I don't remember to set up the computer at home to record before I leave for Princeton, it's too late and I'm not gonna have a copy. THat happened last week and I was so sad about it because I really enjoyed doing that upbeat jangle-poppy Doubleplusgood last week and I was having a lot of fun being a bit hyper on mic. I keep telling myself I will EVENTUALLY upload a bunch of the recorded shows to MixCloud...

@Number 6 - And of course now MixCloud isn't free anymore :(

I know, they charge $150 a year, but I don't think that any of those sites are free anymore. I think you can still put up 10 shows for free.

I remember the Belle and Sebastian after party but alas no ticket….

@Number 6 - yeah, i WISH i'd uploaded a bunch of episodes of ++good when MixCloud was still free! Do you know if they retroactively delete uploads that exceed 10 from the years when the service was free?

@Lizbot- I think that you can put up 10 shows, but then you have to delete them to put up a max of 10.

@Michael McCool - The most recent Belle & Sebastian after-party in Philly my cousin and her husband DJed but i had a grumpy kid who wanted to be picked up from her babysitter! NOT the same kind of wild nights as the B&S parties of the early 2000s!

To put up new shows, you have to delete old ones.

@Lizbot we watched Joe Dante's "Matinee", which was an absolute blast, I was so glad we watched it for the show. Our voices are finally back thankfully--I seem to be over the cold, not even coughing anymore.

You can put your shows on youtube, but they can be taken down if an artist complains about copyright.

MANT rocks, I would watch that if it was a real movie.

@Mary Jones - Absolutely! At some point I feel like I saw a list someone compiled online of fictional movies within other movies. We need a definitive list! I like that the band Arling & Cameron made soundtrack songs for imaginary films. I sometimes play their theme to "Hashi: The Drug-Sniffing Dog"!

@Number 6 - Yeah, I'm not messing around with YouTube and all that. Sound quality not as good either

@Lizbot and he went to the UArts in Philly IIRC! We went and saw his student project "The Movie Orgy" last year, it was fantastic.

@Number 6 - I could be wrong, but I feel like sound quality on YouTube isn't quite as good. But either way, I don't feel like that's a good way to archive my shows. I gotta bite the bullet and get the full version of MixCloud....If I ever get around to uploading everything. I first have to WeTransfer all my recordings to myself and edit the intro broadcast transfer music off the front of the recording in Logic

ANyone remember Taco House around 12th & Pine? It was almost entirely staffed by UArts students and had an entertaining photo collage on the wall behind the register that featured a funny dude I went to high school with in South Jersey in the early 90s who was "wanted for taco-napping".

@Michael Garson - Yeah, pickings were slim. I lived in a studio apartment on 16th & Spruce in the late 90s/to the early/mid 2000s, and at that location, was surrounded by UArts housing and student rentals. Taco House wasn't a great option, but it was convenient to me! Sausalito on South Street was so much better and had those giant veggie burritos prepared Mission style, but when I couldn't get there, it was Taco House or the place near Graduate Hospital...

@Michael Garson - Don't worry! I am just a huge Sparks fan! Ron & Russell are still going strong, but someone on the Sparks facebook fan site DID actually freak me out the other day but posting vague about "no more Sparks" and I thought for a second I'd have to do a tribute!

@Michael McCool - Yeah, that place is looooong gone. What was the place near Graduate Hospital (the actual hospital, not that neighborhood in general)? It's long gone too. It had booths and Oaxacan wood carvings from The Eyes Gallery on its walls, and mock beef burritos very cheap when I was vegetarian and broke
