| The Joe Harriott Double Quintet Subject Indo Jazz Fusions Rhino Atlantic 1967 Joe Harriott (1928-1973) was a Jamaican-British saxophonist. John Mayer (1930-2004) was an Anglo-Indian composer born in Kolkata. The double quintet featured jazz and Indian musicians. Capitalizing on the new craze for Indian music in the late 1960s. |

| Badal Roy Passing Dreams Passing Dreams Adamo 1976 Amarendra Roy Chowdhury (1939-2022) was born in Bangladesh, and moved to the USA in 1968 to study statistics. When Roy moved to New York, he worked as a waiter in Indian restaurants in the region. In the weekends, he performed as a tabla artist accompanying a sitar player at A Taste of India, an Indian restaurant in Greenwich Village, where he was spotted by John McLaughlin, with who he recorded "My Goal's Beyond". Roy eventually got the attention of Miles Davis, with whom he recorded several records. He lived in East Brunswick NJ for several years. |

This is one of his many jazz efforts, here collaborating with Larry Coryell (guitar), Tony Williams (drums), Alex Acuna (percussion), Mark Massey (keyboards), and Subash Chandran (mridangam). | Susheela Raman Dhamavati Love Trap Narada 2003 Born in London UK in 1973, Susheela Raman's family is from Tamil Nadu, India. She grew up in Australia, where she had traditional training in Carnatic classical music of south India. With her partner, guitarist/producer Sam Mills, she reinterprets these 200 year old compositions and presents them in a modern style. "Dhamavati" was taken from "Parandhamavati Jayati" composed by Muthuswami Dikshitar (1776-1835). |

| Rudresh Mahanthappa Convergence (Kinsmen) Kinsmen (feat. Kadri Gopalnath, A. Kanyakumari, Rez Abbasi, Carlo De Rosa, Poovalur Sriji & Royal Hartigan) Pi Recordings 2008 Mahanthappa is the son of Indian emigrants to the U.S. He was born on 4 May 1971 in Trieste, Italy as a result of his father's job in academia, but spent most of his life in Boulder, Colorado. But it wasn't until his time at Berklee in the early 90's, when he was introduced to the music of Indian saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath, whose use of a Western instrument in Carnatic music surprised and inspired Mahanthappa. Manthappa is currently the Anthony P. Lee'79 Director of Jazz at Princeton University. |

| Rez Abbasi & Josh Feinberg Reaching N Naya Baaz Whirlwind Recordings 2023 Rez Abbasi was born 27 August 1965 in Karachi Pakistan. When he was 4, his family moved to Los Angeles. Abbasi studied guitar at the University of Southern California and at the Manhattan School of Music. After graduating in 1989, he spent a couple months in India studying tabla with Alla Rakha, which kindled an interest in the music of India and Pakistan.
Josh Feinberg started studying classical music and jazz on piano in New York City, but in his teens he fell in love with Indian Classical music. Focusing on sitar, he learnt for years under Ali Akbar Khan and listened intensely to recordings of Nikhil Banerjee. Together, they epitomize the new generation of musicians, conversant in both jazz and Indian music, and able to blend styles together. |

He was born into a family steeped in Indian classical music and dance (his mother was the famous Kathak dancer Sitara Devi). Besides his Bollywood career (involved since at least 1989), he collaborates with many jazz musicians. "Bada Boom" is his debut jazz fusion record. |

Prasanna (born in India on 2 October 1970) pioneered Indian Classical Music on electric guitar. He also plays jazz, rock and world fusion. Nitin Mitta is an Indian tabla player.
