Welcome to Monday Jazz!
Patrick White 12:07:22 PM
Greetings to Dan and listeners.I didn’t have Bobbie Gentry on my opening cut Dan BUSKIRK scorecard.
TAndy 12:07:43 PM
Heya Dan and Pat. Lovely idea for a general theme today.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:07:59 PM
From her uncompleted Jazz Album...
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:08:10 PM
Love Les!
Patrick White 12:15:02 PM
There must a short list of Jazz Records selling million copies.
Patrick White 12:16:31 PM
And amongst all that 60s ,70s Jazz greatness I believe the highest paid Jazz musician was probably……Doc Severinsen.
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:17:50 PM
Hah!
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:19:34 PM
In Clark Terry's bio, as a member of the TONIGHT SHOW band, he felt he was looked over (understandably) for the spot that Doc got.
Brian D 12:37:17 PM
Ya those Penthouse archival releases are great! Just got the Cal Tjader one. The Bola Sete one is great as heard on your show.
Brian D 12:38:53 PM
The Jimmy Giuffre reissue you mentioned is great too (Music for People... etc)
Dan Buskirk (host) 12:40:37 PM
I have to see if I still have RIVER CHANT, it has the same band as this new reissue....
Brian D 1:01:00 PM
Psst "hombre" has long o vowel like "oh". Otherwise, the "ah" sound turns the word into "hambre" which means hungry ha ha
Patrick White 1:02:32 PM
Jimmy Giuffre. At his best with Richie Kamuca
Brian D 1:03:28 PM
Any chance to hear Miles' raspy spoken voice is fun
Brian D 1:04:35 PM
The talk back to Teo Macero moments in the studio ha... sock-it-to-me sock-it-to-me Teo!
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:08:01 PM
Willing to take all pronunciation advice!
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:08:33 PM
Watching Miles on Dick Cavett recently, thought the worst job in showbiz must be mic'ing Miles....
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:08:56 PM
Kamuca! What high school again?
karolina leleniewski 1:12:20 PM
I loved the bass part of this song, zooowiiieeee
Brian D 1:12:50 PM
Agreed! Lovely. Fits so well
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:13:10 PM
The great Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass!
Brian D 1:16:49 PM
A classic here! And inspiration to DJ Will C's on air program statement. Oof an emerg test interrupted briefly... but we're back to Ayler
Marcus Watt 1:16:56 PM
Hi, all. I've seen Dingo, and Miles isn't as raspy as one might expect. Also, I've probably never used the word 'raspy' before.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:19:01 PM
Would he be mistaken for Lou Rawls?
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:19:35 PM
Constantine!
Brian D 1:20:27 PM
Re: "The great Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass!" - I was recently hipped to NHOP's collab lp with Kenny Drew "Duo".
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:24:16 PM
He's always great!
Brian D 1:34:46 PM
Heh sounded like good ol raspy Miles there!
Big Head Mok 1:45:02 PM
that Albert Ayler is great. Driving back from lunch tapping my toe
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:45:33 PM
His story is a deep one...
Big Head Mok 1:48:21 PM
man... suicide at 34. Ufff
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:49:16 PM
Lots of weird mystical vibes around him...
Marcus Watt 1:54:35 PM
Deep? Definitely not too soon.
Dan Buskirk (host) 1:55:47 PM
Took me a second. You coming out Marcus?
Marcus Watt 1:56:44 PM
Almost certainly. Just for Albert.
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:05:42 PM
It's a real gem. Have you seen the Lee Morgan doc?
Marcus Watt 2:06:43 PM
No. I'll look for it.
Big Head Mok 2:11:41 PM
I watched the John Waite doc recently. That was pretty good.
Big Head Mok 2:11:54 PM
(free on amazon prime)
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:12:18 PM
Just listened to a recent Babys release, live at the Bottom Line!
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:12:42 PM
Watched a Gary Mule Deer doc. Had no idea he was still going....
TAndy 2:12:54 PM
This OTSB rules
Brian D 2:13:03 PM
I'd watch that Lee Morgan docu again. Good stuff. Ya that Miles track from Dingo sounded great! Was that the last time he did anything like that in the studio at least? Maybe some of those live Quincy/ Montreux things were in that vein. But as someone that often stated he did not want to look back & do the same ol thing the Dingo track really surprised me.
Patrick White 2:15:22 PM
Sorry Dan I was driving. That was Mastbaum High School Frankford and Clementine streets
Patrick White 2:16:30 PM
Saw the Baby’s at The Tower for 94 cents Radio Promo WYSP

Big Head Mok 2:24:02 PM

Brian D 2:24:57 PM
Just heard this Nippon Acid Folk comp over the weekend too cool stuff
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:26:44 PM
Yeah, all sorts of great stuff on this comp...
Patrick White 2:32:18 PM
Used to like the Byzantine ticketing process at The Bottom Line.Send a self addressed stamped envelope along with a domestic USPS money order
Brian D 2:38:43 PM
I see no problem with that. Great system that worked for Grateful Dead mail order tickets too. Mail a SASE and money order(s). And for summer venues with different tier seating prices, the option to send a money order for the lower seat price and another money order for the difference in higher price ticket vs lower price. That way you were covered if one type of seat location sold out first
Brian D 2:41:15 PM
My friend was on some random search last year and found a site that hosted images of the colorful self addressed envelopes.. he found a couple that we sent 30 or so years earlier for the 92 spring tour! Ha
TAndy 2:43:55 PM
Ooh interesting this one is. Sounds like Friday night between 8 and 11 now ;)
Brian D 2:47:22 PM
All these releases that I heard about over the weekend and some from last week. Once again Dan is right on target with my web browsing. Wanted to check out the SPRINTS def

TAndy 2:56:11 PM
Thanks for the show Dan
Brian D 2:56:36 PM
There's a "new" 13th Floor Elevators anthology coming out also "13 of the Best". Supposed to be well done using original tapes etc
Dan Buskirk (host) 2:56:48 PM
Saw that...
Patrick White 2:57:58 PM
