Ooh turbines! One of my favorite subjects to casually observe through osmosis.

I hope I omosisized you accordingly! It's an exciting, and not too despairing, time.

I didn't talk about uneven grid loading but let's see what the people think

I would have loved more nuclear power, shame that most of the voting public was fearmongered by the only incidents that stemmed from human error and incompetence. But oh well.

Could always be worse! I'm happy that half my power is basically free of emissions, with NJ so nuclear heavy relative to other places.

We are collectively good at engineering nuclear power now, but lots of new ideas probably won't ever get tried :(

Not with how much it costs to even build a facility, hence why older ones are simply being shuttered once they reach their EoL

It's really a shame! Maybe wind can come up in time to take some of that load, but it's sure nice to have a powerplant you can turn on whenever you need capacity

So true. I guess natgas is better than the dirtier alternative in terms of its post-combustion byproducts, but the procurement methods and the ethics around accessing the source are just as dirty imo

Its another example of the typical American capitalist "it doesn't affect me therefore it doesn't matter" ethos.

We're already learning that it all affects all of us, actually! Maybe too little too late.

All I can do is just a little to try to make fusion work :) and be feasible :) and be profitable :)

I have not looked into the way turbines work, but am wondering why they need to be 200+ meters tall with such enormous blades

The turbines are taller so that they can not only be unimpeded by other large objects such as ships, or for the ones on land, buildings and people. But generally the higher you are, the most turbulent and strong the winds are.

I'm pretty sure turbines also generate a bit of a wind field that could be hazardous if too close to us short people (me).

Now my question for You is why the unpleasant listening hour is more of an unpleasant EXPERIENCE? I swore I tasted a bit of metal and Canterbury Creme Egg during some of those sets. I smelled my speakers cooking too, they couldn't handle the Obscurity 😏🤭
