All Irish speakers I know are happy to when they hear that anyone is studying the language, on any level; in fact, there's a popular saying in Irish meant to encourage beginners to take up and start using the language: "Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste" (Broken Irish is better than clever English).
