Ramani first learnt music from his grandfather, Sri Aazhiyur Narayanaswami Iyer. He later became a disciple of his maternal uncle and eminent flautist, T. R. Mahalingam.

Rudrapatna Keshavamurthy Suryanarayana (1937-2003) played the "Gayathri veena", which apparently has 17 sympathetic strings like a sitar, but I could find no good photographs of the instrument from the proper angle.

Reshma was born to a nomadic Banjara family in Rajasthan in 1947. The family relocated to Karachi during Partition. A local music producer discover her singing at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh when she was 12 years old, and she went on to have an illustrious career singing folk and Sufi songs. She died in 2013.

Born in 1952, Vidya Dengle was brought up in an environment surrounded by the arts. Growing up, she trained in art, music, and dance simultaneously. Dengle graduated from Mumbai's Sir J.J School of Art with a degree in fine arts in 1973. She studied violin under Zahoor Ahmed Khan and vocalist Ashok Ranade.

Aruna Sairam was born on 30 October 1952, in Mumbai. She received vocal training from her mother Rajalakshmi Sethuraman, who was a student of the Alathur Brothers and Thanjavoor Sankara Iyer. Her father Shri Sethuraman was a music connoisseur who hosted musicians and dancers in the family home. At one of these gatherings, Aruna met Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. T. Brinda, who trained her in the style of Veena Dhanammal.

Good Morning! As the proud owner of a kazoo, I think it is a candidate for the first non-percussive instrument after that thing where you put a leaf between ones palms like a reed thingy. :)
