Alan Pasnyk 8:06:07 PM
Hi Dana!! First Christmas Crum Bum is in da Haus..
Dana K (host) 8:08:56 PM
Hey Alan!
Alan Pasnyk 8:10:31 PM
That last track Readie played really got to me..now for some pop stuff..
Rob from Maryland 8:14:32 PM
Hi Dana and Alan! I am definitely here for twee & jangle pop
Dana K (host) 8:18:13 PM
lol, this is actually a Connie (not COMMIE) Francis song
Rob from Maryland 8:24:44 PM
Popguns! I wish I knew where I misplaced my Popguns CD
Alan Pasnyk 8:25:44 PM
They have a Great sound for sure..
Dana K (host) 8:26:24 PM
Beautiful voice, heartbreaking lyrics. Love 'em
🎅ndy 8:29:21 PM
Hey hey hey, DJ Dana K
Dana K (host) 8:29:56 PM
Ayo Santandy
🎅ndy 8:30:51 PM
Loved the Aztec Camera jam a bit earlier. It can't sound more poppy than that, i nthe good way.
Steve Keane 8:32:03 PM
I walk away for two minutes and now you're playing this crazy pop music?
Dana K (host) 8:32:08 PM
All that early Aztec Camera stuff is perfect
Dana K (host) 8:32:21 PM
I only listen to pop music
Steve Keane 8:32:40 PM
Hippie
Rob from Maryland 8:32:44 PM
Exactly. Especially "Living in Sin". Or heck, the entire "Another Year Another Address...The Best Of The Midnight Years" which is the one CD of theirs I have. (Popguns)
🎅ndy 8:39:26 PM
Ah this is such a good song
Dana K (host) 8:40:19 PM
This is from this really good Cherry Red dreampop compilation that came out...I guess recently?
Dana K (host) 8:40:47 PM
https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/cherry-stars-collide-dream-pop-shoegaze-ethereal-rock-1986-1995-4cd-box-set/
Dana K (host) 8:41:31 PM
I actually have no idea when it came out, but it's new to me. Will be pulling from it for a while
DatSantaMadness 8:45:20 PM
Loved that Darling Buds track. Howdy Dana and everyone
Dana K (host) 8:48:46 PM
hey DSM!
Steve Keane 8:51:46 PM
"A goalkeeper with no arms" Christmas, indeed.
Dana K (host) 8:52:51 PM
I'll admit I have no idea what HMHB is singing about most of the time
Steve Keane 8:55:43 PM
Doesn't matter. I love it.
Alan Pasnyk 8:56:56 PM
Finally, a song about a bed lol...
Rob from Maryland 9:04:56 PM
Dana, would you happen to have any Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes on hand?
🎅ndy 9:13:13 PM
new years madness is going to be so much fun
Dana K (host) 9:15:11 PM
Brian just messaged me to tell me he was making a beef stew for it
David Shortell 9:15:19 PM
Who were the Chesterfields singing about? Elizabeth Tudor's astronomer?
Dana K (host) 9:16:41 PM
As good a guess as any
Alan Pasnyk 9:18:31 PM
on New Years Eve, I'd like to see that goddamned ball go into orbit!
🎅ndy 9:21:36 PM
I remember when I was younger I thought that going to see the ball drop would be fun
🎅ndy 9:21:53 PM
Went with my dad that afternoon and manhattan was so fkn packed and full of cigarette smoke, we went home before sundown
Dana K (host) 9:21:57 PM
I've only heard horrific things about going to New York on NYE
Dana K (host) 9:22:15 PM
I went to Times Square the day after Christmas one year and it was too much for me
🎅ndy 9:22:33 PM
And then I heard the harsh reality of people bringing empty bottles and cans for relief, and not being able to escape until sunrise the next morning
Ossy 9:22:56 PM
New Years Day countdown on CNN is a tradition for me
Ossy 9:23:17 PM
But yeah it gets high crazy on New years eve
🎅ndy 9:23:39 PM
My dad wants to go BACK to the city after Christmas. Thank God it's looking like rain after Christmas, i hate going to new york anymore lol
🎅ndy 9:24:02 PM
aint nothing there except for dark entries records and kinokuniya, the latter of which exists across the river in Edgewater
🎅ndy 9:24:50 PM
wait not dark entries, forgot the record store name. i'm tired.
Dana K (host) 9:25:09 PM
I was with my then boyfriend's family and they wanted to see the Rockefeller tree, and the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square
Dana K (host) 9:25:24 PM
And I had flown home from Glasgow like three days earlier and I hated everything
🎅ndy 9:25:48 PM
I mean it's really fun when you're a little kid, the city looks amazing. But as an adult, it's just so over lol
🎅ndy 9:26:02 PM
I'd still go to NY for certain raves or parties though, so worth it
Rob from Maryland 9:26:12 PM
Thank you, Dana!
Alan Pasnyk 9:26:30 PM
My New Year's fantasy, Nevada desert, midnite, and an insanely large Catapult with a Flaming Ball....YEAH!!
🎅ndy 9:26:58 PM
Rough Trade, that's the record store. The name is as aggressive as "dark entries", sorry for displaying my low power level hahah
Dana K (host) 9:27:26 PM
I was gonna say, I thought Dark Entries was in SF
🎅ndy 9:28:19 PM
I should have gone when I was in SF a few months ago, but we got distracted by the cable cars
Dana K (host) 9:28:51 PM
Oh I like going to New York, going up to MoMA for a bunch of restored old DEVO videos next month, but never going to Manhattan again at this time of year
Dana K (host) 9:29:08 PM
Part of the reason why I do the NYE show is to have a good excuse not to leave the house
🎅ndy 9:29:14 PM
valid
David Shortell 9:29:53 PM
Five years ago I saw Dear Nora’s Katy Davidson play solo at the Shore Caribbean Restaurant in Long Branch. Teenage Halloween’s Luk Henderiks booked shows there for a short time, in easy walking distance from my home.
Ossy 9:30:42 PM
Friends and I saw a Rurouni Kenshin movie in NYC few years back, it was busy loaded on the streets
Dana K (host) 9:31:26 PM
I remember Luk! They lived in my neighborhood for a bit before going back to NJ
Dana K (host) 9:31:48 PM
That sounds like such a cool show
Steve Keane 9:37:08 PM
When is the MOMA thing?
Dana K (host) 9:39:23 PM
it's the 27th
Dana K (host) 9:39:31 PM
Which is a Saturday
Dana K (host) 9:39:43 PM
of January, I should say
Rob from Maryland 9:40:25 PM
Huh, an earlier band named The Decemberists
Dana K (host) 9:40:42 PM
Oh yeah. I should note that
🎅ndy 9:45:32 PM
I really love the Bachata-esque beat on this one
Colin 9:48:36 PM
tandy, my aunt to this day has an organ with all those style beats in it. so many hours of my childhood were spent jamming with the cousins on that organ.
Alan Pasnyk 9:49:13 PM
Really Loved the Shanghai track..
Rob from Maryland 9:52:40 PM
The 80s Decemberists might be from Liverpool? https://www.discogs.com/artist/467466-The-Decemberists-2 "Variations: Decemberists Of Liverpool"
Dana K (host) 9:54:41 PM
Oh, I missed that part!
Dana K (host) 9:58:21 PM
That's funny, I got a tip from another listener that Perfect were also from Liverpool
Ossy 10:05:25 PM
The last song sounded like Corinne Ray
🎅ndy 10:07:58 PM
i feel this song
Dana K (host) 10:08:35 PM
Pete Dale has the best lyrics
Steve Keane 10:08:49 PM
How come there's no boxing on boxing day? There's loads of wrestling on wrestling day.
Dana K (host) 10:12:29 PM
You'll have to ask the British
Steve Keane 10:13:58 PM
I did. They directed me here.
Rob from Maryland 10:14:59 PM
I searched Perfect in Discogs and a) actually located your band and b) found no info as to where they are from. Oh, wait: "Carl Hodgson Guitarist active in mid-80s Liverpool, UK"
Dana K (host) 10:15:03 PM
I don't even know what bands are from Liverpool
Rob from Maryland 10:15:48 PM
"In Groups: Perfect (8)" so it's him
Rob from Maryland 10:16:05 PM
I don't, either
Dana K (host) 10:16:45 PM
A listener emailed me this video with a bunch of photos from the band, looks like it was uploaded by a member: https://youtu.be/M0rm6--AM68?si=XGGUsZ7zTURGiTYv
Colin 10:18:55 PM
steve K, I have always been disappointed by the level of boxing on boxing day.
Alan Pasnyk 10:19:50 PM
I thought boxing day was for the folks in the shipping industry...
Alan Pasnyk 10:21:00 PM
also <3 this Soft Location track..
Ossy 10:23:08 PM
Has a suspense in the 8bit games
Rob from Maryland 10:23:13 PM
Nice listener
Colin 10:23:48 PM
alan, after the no-boxing revelation i always thought it was about people boxing up the gifts they want to return
Alan Pasnyk 10:25:03 PM
Colin: You're right!
Steve Keane 10:25:24 PM
Colin: Maybe it's better in Australia. That's the Texas of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Alan Pasnyk 10:27:25 PM
In the UK they got to Hospital, In the US we go to Jail...go figure...
Steve Keane 10:30:34 PM
Jails make more profit than hospitals. That's why Clinton backed the Prison Industrial Complex instead of healthcare. Ha ha ha ha! America!
Colin 10:33:01 PM
i was already intending to make yorkshire pudding for the fam mas-eve event, now after the vibe of the show i can't wait to make the puddings!
Dana K (host) 10:33:55 PM
Oh man, I wish I knew how to make those
Alan Pasnyk 10:35:19 PM
Eat yer meat, eat yer meat, ya kant have any puddin' unless ya eat yar meat!!!
Colin 10:35:53 PM
dana, it's much easier than i ever expected.
David Shortell 10:36:25 PM
I momentarily thought Blueboy was Donovan just now.
Rob from Maryland 10:38:10 PM
Dana, this has been an excellent show, thank you!
Rob from Maryland 10:38:53 PM
I'm gonna head out shortly. Have a great weekend everyone!
Steve Keane 10:39:00 PM
Was a bit Donovanesque.
Alan Pasnyk 10:45:54 PM
'nite Rob!
Steve Keane 10:46:13 PM
Happy Whatever You Like This Time Of Year, Rob.
Scooter France 10:46:41 PM
Diamonds and Gems by Soft Location is a great record. I don't know anything about them other than that they were from Detroit. I wish I hadn't sold that record because it's kind of pricey now
Steve Keane 10:48:34 PM
You never talk too much. What you say is interesting.
Colin 10:49:19 PM
loved the show dk!
Dana K (host) 10:49:40 PM
thanks for the intel on soft location! that song is incredible, i'm going to have to check out the full record
Scooter France 10:50:57 PM
Also, Yellow Fever changed their name to Deep Time and put out an lp on hardly art that is good, but not as good as their stuff as Yellow Fever. I got to see them once at Chaos in Tejas and they were really great live.
Alan Pasnyk 10:51:01 PM
Many Thanks Dana! Really needed that pop tonite! bcnu New years eve! Take care!
🎅ndy 10:51:11 PM
Thank you, Dana K.
🎅ndy 10:51:18 PM
Have a merry Chrimmus :)
Alan Pasnyk 10:51:48 PM
Merry Crumm Bummus!!
Dana K (host) 10:51:58 PM

Scooter France 10:55:58 PM

Ossy 10:57:40 PM
