Charleton Chews - Not the best candy bar, and the thin chocolate coating on the nougat filling probably couldn't be legally called "chocolate" and was mostly just the suggestion of chocolate...like a tootsie roll is chocolate-like. But I bought them at summer camp every year because they were the cheapest bar you could get for your measly camp allowance

@DSM - Peanut Chews are infinitely superior. I chews on them

@DSM - and back when I was still vegan, a loooong time ago, peanut chews won major props because I could continue to eat them because they've always been vegan, being that they aren't coated in what one would call traditional chocolate

Had a Crunch bar for the first time in like 20 years recently, not bad! The chocolate was better than expected.

@TAndy - With that accent, you'd more likely be chewing a Yorkie bar, or a Flake bar, innit?

@Carlos Ramone - I am honored. Good ole Dandrew is a fan! He listed me, Dana K, Esoterica, Commie and Jon. We will have to transmit to Rodney Anonymous that WPRB is NOT corporate radio in the least! He went on an anti-radio tear and then listed a bunch of bands WPRB plays as examples of music you can't hear on the radio...(not to be confused with John Weingart's folk show!)

@Carlos Ramone - haha, yeah. I enjoy a good Milkmen show and rant, but yeah! I love seeing them at their annual Laurel Hill Cemetery shows because it's always such a fun giant picnic vibe, but I WISH it was still in the fall! I was always available then. Now they do it in the summertime instead and I'm more likely to be away. had to miss it last summer

@TAndy - These days you can buy it without the accompanying comic, but I snagged a copy of the comic version from the bag when it came out and it is a very think glossy nicely-inked comic. Must have cost a lot to print/release the album like that!

@TAndy - I am still sore that Cadbury changed the recipe for the American-only version of their cream eggs. I used to love them but they taste very different now. They don't use cream anymore...more oil, and some other changes. Consistency is different too. Went to Ireland in 2018 and all the Cadbury chocolate there tastes so different from here!

I have to confess that I've never had one in my life 🥹

@TAndy - Your secret is safe with me. I hadn't had one since I was a kid, but I got one last one when I heard they were changing them drastically in the U.S. and it tasted how I remembered. Then I got a new one for comparison and it was like the New Coke of Easter candy suddenly

Hi Brian D! haha, yeah, I enjoy that track quite a bit. MAYBE one day I'll do a theme show that's all WPRB DJs' intro music tracks! And possibly also I'll throw in tracks that provide the bed music for certain long-running beloved WPRB station IDs!

Speaking of Esoterica...this track is Danza esoterica di datura! It is the dance one must perform while listening to the Esoterica's Sonic Bloom

@Addie - oh wow. My brother-in-law had a bearded dragon that sadly died while being pet-sat by PetSmart when they offered petsitting services (I don't know if they still do, I don't trust them!)

@Addie - The story from petsmart was that they lost power and the beardie got too cold. Brother in Law was all the way in Australia on a trip

@Addie - I saw it on Friday and I'm still unpacking it. It seems to be about dealing with both Miyazaki's own mother's early death, as well as maybe grappling with his own mortality. I found the plot very convoluted and layered.

So the Miyazaki…Z gave it a 10 out of 10 purely based on The anthropomorphic parakeets. I was wishing it had been much weirder.

@Addie - Yeah, it was tragic and I feel like PetSmart could have [and MUST HAVE, right?] used a generator to power a heat lamp. Or maybe use those hand warmers!

The plot was certainly hard to parse, and the ending was bizarrely abrupt.

@Addie - I liked the characteristic animal piles completely coating characters - The frogs near the beginning on the boy! Speaking of which, I played The Frogs the last track, and now it's Snake[finger]

Yes, I did enjoy the frogs and fish and the parakeets getting all squeezed out of the archway. I’m afraid I didn’t understand the bit about the blocks at all.

@Addie - [SPOILERS AHEAD for The Boy & the Heron!}: Yeah,the ending was so abrupt! I GUESS that was intentional...SO often his characters are children who move from the city to the spirit-filled countryside and get, well, spirited away for a while in order to solve some existential crisis, then they return to their families, but in this case it's just like the moment he's come to terms with his mother's death and accepted his step-mother, they move back to the city IMMEDIATELY

@Addie - Of course I was delighted about the all the budgie content! There is an animated budgie cartoon show in Japan where pet budgies solve problems and help each other and I'm all for it!

I did quite enjoy the budgie king sneaking around!

@Addie - Oh yeah, I mean I sorta took the blocks to be creation and making and remaking things and accepting that that has to come to an end at some point, ie Miyazaki won't be able to make movies forever. There was even that [Wonka-esque] part where the bearded god-like mage guy asks the boy to be his successor, but that world is already crumbling. I'm looking at you, Goro Miyazaki!

@Addie - I could be completely off about that, but that's my first thought about it

@Addie - Yeah, the Budgie King reminded me of some of the absolutely RIPPED personified budgies on the album covers of the Welsh hard rock band "Budgie"! Ha! I love their ridiculous album covers (I own posters for two of them) but I don't like their music!

Haha, understandable! If I come across any snake related things I always give them a good college try.

@Addie - The part with the blocks also reminded me of that creepy claymation show from the 80s The Adventures of Mark Twain because there's a part where a character is creating worlds with building blocks, but he isn't a benevolent force!

I feel like I’ll need to give it another watch at home to fully grasp what was going on. One thing that struck me was the paper attacking people that echoed those little attack paper guys from Spirited Away. And then I noticed that the budgie king’s insignia was even shaped like those guys.

@Addie - Yes! I noticed that too! Spirited Away has some similar themes - like how Chihiro also of course just moved from a city to the countryside, gets taken in by spirits by passing through basically a shinto shrine, (they keep passing little shinto shrines on the drive there.)

@Addie - AND one thing that struck me is that, much like the bathhouse in Spirited Away corrupts Noh-Face (and maybe also Yubaba's baby,) while Noh-Face is otherwise harmless and a benevolent spirit outside the bathhouse, the tower in Boy & the Heron has a deleterious effect on the budgies, but they become harmless and no longer warring outside the tower in the end of the movie
