Hello!
Number 6 5:01:15 PM
Greetings to everyone once again!
Lizbot (host) 5:02:54 PM
Hi Number 6!
Lizbot (host) 5:03:20 PM
@Number 6 - I am relieved the signal is a'functioning!
Number 6 5:03:57 PM
Was there a problem before?
Lizbot (host) 5:04:33 PM
This song befits a winter afternoon since Jojo sings about the moon being out already! These are the days I get to the station in near-dark
Lizbot (host) 5:04:46 PM
@Number 6 - Early this morning there was
Lizbot (host) 5:05:20 PM
It sounds like Jonathan just exclaimed "Whack a mole!"
Lizbot (host) 5:05:40 PM
...just before that last chorus
Number 6 5:05:49 PM
They still haven't gotten the part for the board yet, I hope that they ordered extra ones.
Lizbot (host) 5:07:29 PM
@Number 6 - This was from the other studio, not the barge. All fixed now!
Rob from Maryland 5:07:57 PM
Good afternoon Liz-botella & Numero 6. We just had a spectacular sunset down here in Maryland
Number 6 5:08:23 PM
Numero sexo to you!
Rob from Maryland 5:08:35 PM
(Numero Seis, actually)
Rob from Maryland 5:08:45 PM
Or Numero Sexto
Lizbot (host) 5:09:23 PM
Hi Rob from Maryland! Nice! I was driving through the sunset here, and couldn't watch it much, but I saw the gorgeous sunrise this morning in Philly and took a [somewhat crummy] photo of it through my window with the screen and glass obscuring it because it was too early in the morning/cold to step outside yet!
Number 6 5:10:47 PM
@ Rob- I am a sexagenarian, though.
George Korein 5:16:18 PM
The Hausswolff reminded me of Bowie’s Crystal Japan, NIN’s a Warm Place, some Mogwai, King Missile‘s Happy Hour
Lizbot (host) 5:17:17 PM
@George Korein - I can definitely hear the Mogwai similarity
Lizbot (host) 5:17:37 PM
@George Korein - And the name Hausswolff reminds me of Nuala the house wolf
Lizbot (host) 5:20:05 PM
@Number 6 - But how old was Sixto Rodriguez? And did he ear sixto brand candies when he was searching for sugar, man?
Rob from Maryland 5:20:25 PM
Iirc, this Sinead song is the first of her songs that KEXP played when the news broke of her death, and the station switched to Sinead tribute mode. I teared up just looking at the playlist, without actually hearing the song
Lizbot (host) 5:20:57 PM
Two Irish bands in a row
Rob from Maryland 5:21:17 PM
@Lizbot, how nice! I think it was too cloudy for sunrise colors down here
Rob from Maryland 5:21:29 PM
@Number 6, I appear to be one too
Lizbot (host) 5:23:07 PM
@ROb from Maryland - When I am up and about between 6 and 7:30 am, if I see a particularly nice sunrise, I will step outside and take a photo, but on a cold morning when I haven't gone down yet, it would take a pretty incredible sunrise to get me out of my warm bed!
Rob from Maryland 5:23:48 PM
@Lizbot, I completely understand that reluctance
Lizbot (host) 5:25:26 PM
@Rob from Maryland - I knew I had to play that song for my Sinéad tribute
Number 6 5:25:48 PM
I like to lie in bed until noon or later, I am a night person.
Lizbot (host) 5:26:07 PM
@Rob from Maryland - It was emotional putting the tribute together and a real trip back through some songs I hadn't heard in ages
Lizbot (host) 5:30:07 PM
@Number 6 - I was a night person until I had a daughter who is a very much a morning person. She normally wakes me by 6 or 6:30 am, but sometimes I get to drift back into the warm embrace of sleep for a bit longer afterwards. i am not a napper though, I wish it was easy for me to fall asleep! Today I'm chilly in studio so I'm wearing two jackets and it is making me very cozy
TAndy 5:30:21 PM
Woke up during MBV, this playlist is so good 🥰
Lizbot (host) 5:31:08 PM
Hello TAndy! Good to gain consciousness to shoegaze to ease one into wakefulness!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:14 PM
@TAndy - You were there during the broadcast troubles of this morning, if I recall correctly. Still up from the night before?
Number 6 5:32:48 PM
The temp there is 68, and you ain't allowed to touch it!
Rob from Maryland 5:32:54 PM
@Lizbot, I bet (re your tribute and the song choice). I (re-)learned things about O'Connor and heard a lot of songs I wasn't familiar with. And was all the sadder.
TAndy 5:32:58 PM
Yep, had work last night and tonight :)
Rob from Maryland 5:35:40 PM
At one point I was kind of a morning person (enthusiastic birder) and a night person (live music!) at the same time. If there was a band I wanted to see, and also an out-of-range bird I wanted to look for, it was kind of tough to decide sometimes
Lizbot (host) 5:35:50 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Yeah, I had a good friend in high school who was a massive Sinéad fan and she and I used to go on road-trips from Jersey to Massachusetts when she switched to a school in the Berkshires and we'd listen to so much Sinéad on the tape-deck of her sister's old junker car (which eventually broke down on one of those trips in a massive snowstorm and never survived to drive another day)
Lizbot (host) 5:36:26 PM
@ROb from Maryland - Doing the tribute made me very nostalgic, but also made me remember just how incredible an artist Sinéad was
Rob from Maryland 5:38:33 PM
@Lizbot, though I wasn't a fan per se, I knew O'Connor was very important, so I was immediately sad upon hearing the news even before the tributes started. And yikes about your friend's junker car
Ossy 5:40:45 PM
Hi Space Lady Bot
Lizbot (host) 5:48:13 PM
Hi Ossy!!
Carlos Ramone. 5:49:47 PM
Greetings from a cloudy Montco…no visible moon at the moment
Lizbot (host) 5:50:15 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Tough choice! I found that when I have traveled to place near the equator, it's easier for me to rise early in the morning, AND it's preferable for so many reasons, not the least of which are: It's cool enough to go out at that time of day in hot places, and it's the time of day that those places have loads of birds out and about, especially tropical places with loads of parrots!
Lizbot (host) 5:50:54 PM
Hi Carlos Ramone!
Lizbot (host) 5:53:08 PM
@Carlos Ramone - MontCo is so huge, but I think Ambler is part of it. I was there to see The Leftovers (I recommend it!) at the Ambler Theater a couple weeks ago and it was so eerie out that night! Plus a weird vibe of Christmas lights combined with leftover halloween decorations on people's stoops
Carlos Ramone. 5:55:29 PM
@liz..in north Penn area about 15 minutes north ..Leftovers dully noted for viewing at theater
Lizbot (host) 5:56:52 PM
@Rob from Maryland - She was definitely a victim of a lot of assumptions and stereotyping about her as a bleeding heart and oversensitive after the whole pope photo tearing controversy, and man, I remember her getting utterly dragged through the mud back then and it being unfair, but revisiting that era through the recent doc on her made me so sad and angry for her. She was misunderstood, and she turned out to be right and waaaaay ahead of her time about abuse in the church
Carlos Ramone. 5:59:04 PM
@ Liz..I have a work jacket with company log ironed on a WPRB patch over it..somebody at a stop on my day spotted it and started talking music..a 3rd joined in..15 minute talk about WPRB..city gardens..Zadars..city gardens book..all while on the clock!!
Lizbot (host) 5:59:12 PM
@Carlos Ramone - I also wanna see at Ambler that new Nicolas Cage movie, "Dream Scenario," which looks satisfyingly weird and unnerving and I've heard good things about. That's out now. Plus the new Yorgos Lanthimos movie, "Poor Things," which should be coming out soon
Lizbot (host) 6:09:22 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Amazing! I love when WPRB merch/discussion brings people together! All the better that it was on the clock! I used to buy work clothes from the [at this point long-defunct] Pennsauken Mart in South Jersey because they had the sturdiest jackets and I liked the random nametags and patches on them, but I wish I'd added a WPRB patch on top! One of them had the baffling company name patch "Lead Man Handle"
Carlos Ramone. 6:11:26 PM
@liz…I remember seeing the Offspring at the Mart right before they blew up
Lizbot (host) 6:13:30 PM
@Carlos Ramone - Perform live? I didn't even know there were live performances at The Mart. I always knew it as a massive indoor flea market with all kinds of oddball stands
Lizbot (host) 6:15:52 PM
@Carlos Ramone - My husband got his first guitar at The Mart. There was a video store called "movie mania" that had thousands of VHS tapes, including some pretty hard to find stuff! THat was my favorite spot in the Mart!
Carlos Ramone. 6:16:20 PM
@liz..they had a small hall where they would have some auctions..wrestling matches and once in a while bands
Lizbot (host) 6:20:34 PM
@Carlos Ramone - oh wow! I heard about auctions there but never saw those in action! Crazy. In my early to mid-20s a group of my friends lived in a house together near Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly and we used to have so much fun piling into the car to drive together to The Mart on a Friday night and buy junk food and silly stuff for the hous
TAndy 6:26:01 PM
Love this one ☢️
Lizbot (host) 6:27:48 PM
@TAndy - George & I were just discusses this song and also Showroom Dummies the other day and how they put you in a trance. And also how incredibly ahead of its time this was for 1975!
Number 6 6:30:17 PM
When I rode the El, I always imagined a parody of Trans Europe Express.
Number 6 6:31:05 PM
Trans Philly Express.
Lizbot (host) 6:31:44 PM
@Number 6 - If I rode the Euro-Rail, I imagine I'd have Trans-Europe Express in my head the entire time!
Number 6 6:33:32 PM
When I was in Spain recently, sadly, I didn't take any trains.
Carlos Ramone. 6:34:24 PM
@ Liz..anytime on family vacations that would invodriving my disc of choice was autobahn..most of time I wou,d only play title song…any whining i would also do the 3 comet melodies
Lizbot (host) 6:34:34 PM
@Number 6 - I took the metro in Madrid, but that's about it. And the train to Barajas Airport
Lizbot (host) 6:35:52 PM
@Number 6 - Ha! SEPTIC should rebrand themselves that! Try to improve their image. Maybe pump Kraftwerk through the speakers
Number 6 6:36:34 PM
In Spain you have to go thru security to take the train because of the bombings years ago.
Number 6 6:37:21 PM
I used to work for "SEPTIC", I resemble those comments!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:27 PM
@Carlos Ramone- haha,I am the only person in my immediate family that hasn't been to my uncle Kurt's jobsite near Singen,Germany where he was an auto engineer. My brother loooooved visiting him. He test-drove some fast autos on the autobahn!
Lizbot (host) 6:40:56 PM
@Number 6 - The SEPTA keycard can die 1000 deaths!
Number 6 6:42:36 PM
I like this ID, is it on the station computer?
Ossy 6:46:46 PM
Nice arcadic sounds
Lizbot (host) 6:51:05 PM
@Ossy - glad you enjoy them!
Lizbot (host) 6:52:04 PM
@Number 6 - I don't know. I have it on my laptop. It is an old one, "the pie" featuring the band The Ex. It was on the old IR machine in the main studio for many years and was rescued from there during the early days of the pandemic
TAndy 6:55:09 PM
This JAM ROGHT HERE
Lizbot (host) 6:58:49 PM
@TAndy - I'm glad you enjoy Cheer-Accident! These guys have been around for 35+ years in one form or another and don't get enough recognition!
Number 6 7:06:40 PM
@Lizbot- I see that the song is on youtube, I can always reconstitute it myself. Thanks!
Lizbot (host) 7:08:02 PM
@Number 6 - I think "The Pie" is in that shared google doc folder of IDs too
Number 6 7:09:04 PM
I will check, I don't recall seeing it there, though.
Lizbot (host) 7:09:59 PM
@Number 6 - I can also just transfer you the mp3 of the ID if you send yr email address off-list.
Number 6 7:14:19 PM
Okay, thanks!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:16 PM
@Number 6 - just remind me if i forgot. I don't mind at all.
Rob from Maryland 7:21:07 PM
New Jersey bird (nerd) news: There's a Red-flanked Bluetail (a Siberian breeder in the Old World flycatcher family), currently in Ocean County. It's in Manchester Township, in a 55+ community, and is the first time this species has been seen so far east in North America. The closest previous sightings are from Wyoming and Idaho.
Rob from Maryland 7:22:24 PM
https://ebird.org/species/refblu -- it's a female or immature male. I've given some thought to going to see it, but it is a 3+ hour one-way drive and it is not always visible. If I did go, I certainly would listen to WPRB!!!
Joe Moore 7:23:52 PM
Y'all talkin bout Siberian red flanks.
Joe Moore 7:23:55 PM
?
Rob from Maryland 7:24:44 PM
Joe, it's a Red-flanked Bluetail, a sparrow-sized insect eating bird
Joe Moore 7:24:59 PM
Damn right it is
Lizbot (host) 7:27:19 PM
Hi Joe Moore!
Joe Moore 7:27:49 PM
Is there any chance YLT feature the recently disbanded Screaming Females?
Lizbot (host) 7:28:03 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Are only birders who are 55+ permitted to seek it out? Exclusive!
Joe Moore 7:28:11 PM
Hey lizbot. We've been listening over dinner. great show as ever.
Lizbot (host) 7:29:11 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Sounds like a fun mini-road-trip! How long has it been hanging out there? Is it liable to continue a migration any day now or is it likely to set up there for a while?
Lizbot (host) 7:29:42 PM
@Joe Moore - Now THAT would be an exclusive!
Rob from Maryland 7:31:04 PM
@Lizbot @7:28, no, of course not :-P
Lizbot (host) 7:31:41 PM
@Joe Moore - I am SO sad I had to miss The Screaming Females opening for The Breeders - I bought my tickets the moment they went on sale and was looking forward to it for months, but I had a family emergency involving my dad that night and had to skip it. Would have been such a nostalgic night of music I listened to a ton in high school plus a great Don Giovanni band I've followed in the last decade and a half. I saw Marisa P perform on the roof of a double-decker bus in Philly once years ago!
Lizbot (host) 7:34:21 PM
THIS JUST IN: SPECIAL YO LA TENGO GUESTS TONIGHT ARE...SUN RA ARKESTRA & COMEDIAN JOHN EARLY
Rob from Maryland 7:35:05 PM
@Lizbot (@7:29), it was first noticed on Tuesday! It might be paused on migration, however off-course it is, or it might be settling in for the winter.
Lizbot (host) 7:44:27 PM
@Rob from Maryland - I hope for your sake it's settling in...as long as it has the food and protection it needs where it is!
Rob from Maryland 7:50:55 PM
@Lizbot, me too!
TAndy 7:54:17 PM
Thank you so much for the show, it may have been one of my favorites of the season
Lizbot (host) 7:54:53 PM
@TAndy - Glad you're enjoyed it! Thanks for listening and hanging out!
Number 6 7:55:40 PM
Thanks for a lot of good music. BCNU!
Lizbot (host) 7:55:50 PM
@Number 6 - Thanks!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:12 PM
@Number 6 - I'll get to that pie ID back in Philly
Rob from Maryland 7:56:54 PM
We thank you for the show, Lizbot!!
Lizbot (host) 7:56:59 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Fitting song to close it out tonight for the Red-flanked Bluetail. This song is from an album called Aviary
Rob from Maryland 7:59:41 PM
@Lizbot, yes!
Rob from Maryland 8:00:00 PM
If I do see it, I will sing this song to it
Kristin Belz 8:00:47 PM
enjoyed the show today @lizbot!
Lizbot (host) 8:01:30 PM
HI Kristin! Thanks for listening!
Lizbot (host) 8:01:46 PM
@Rob from Maryland - Nice! I'm sure it will appreciate it!
