The band formed in Messina, but later relocated to Florence to join the rich musical scene there with Neon, Pankow, Alexander Robotnick and Diaframma. Beginning as a 4-piece combo (two guitarists, bassist, drummer) in 1979, they slimmed down to a synthesizer and guitar-based duo a few years later. Ruth - Polaroïd Roman Photo
Ruth Polaroïd Roman Photo Ruth
BIPPP: French Synth Wave 1979-85 V/A Everloving 2008
From Minimal Wave Records site: It’s the early ‘80s, and Thierry Müller, a graphic artist and krautrock fan from Paris, has decided to put his experimental rock group Ilitch on hold and make something, as he puts it, “that people could dance to”. The result is Ruth, a conceptual project that exists for just one album, 1985’s Polaroïd/Roman/Photo. Seven tracks long, it is a remarkable piece of experimental but danceable new-wave, and nowhere more remarkable than the title track – an icy-cold cut of flickering synthesiser, taut guitar and jagged saxophone featuring disconsolate boy-girl vocals and the mechanical click-spool sound of a Polaroid camera.

Golden Dreams - EP Minimal Wave 2013
Deux was formed in 1981 by Gérard Pelletier and Cati Tête. Gérard says, "I was in Germany when I heard Kraftwerk for the first time. It was a revelation for me… and I thought, ' want to make electronic music!'. A month later, I took the train to Strasbourg with the intention of buying a synthesizer and I found my first electronic machine, a Kawai made of metal and wood. It was a sound research machine, not very easy to use but I found it very powerful to create my own sounds. I began to sing with other friends of mine every Saturday night and so started the beginning of what would become Deux. In 1979, I decided to leave Germany and return to France. I found a work place in Lyon (the 2nd largest city in France). I was also working on my music every weekend but I was alone. Then one day, I met Cati and I spoke with that magical girl about music the entire night. Deux was born."

I never knew that but makes total sense. Just found out that the rift between Carvey and Meyers is finally resolved---tough working on films together, and Meyers sort of stole his Dr Evil from Carvey

Didn't one of the guitarists join up in that metal band Prong?
Esoterica (host) 1:20:06 PM
drummer ted parsons was in both band prong and swans, but maybe a guitarist too?
Esoterica (host) 1:20:22 PM
was tommy victor?
uno clay 1:21:33 PM
according to recent comments, apparently Dana did a Lorne Michaels type of impression with the pinky and the voice and everything. And Myers grabbed it and used it in the (highly successful) film without acknowledgement or discussion. Compounded with Dana's post-Waynes career fails, and the apparent on-set Wayes animosity/vibes, its been a long time where there was a coolness between them. Apparently reconciled it now.
Francis 1:21:39 PM
Ahhh - that was it the drummer
Francis 1:23:13 PM
I think the main guy from Prong did sound at CBs some nights. My no name bands played there a bunch of times, and the console mixes/recordings were always fantastic
Esoterica (host) 1:26:25 PM
cool, yeah i think thta was tommy victor

Francis 1:42:50 PM
Don't think so - Mostly played at Continental, CBGBs, Pyramid club 2x. I'm forgetting a lot of places as it was so long ago
Brian McCormack 1:44:58 PM
A1 - avenue A and 1st St. My band played there in the 80's. Was like playing in someone's basement. Audience was burnt out on something. No energy to even clap.
Francis 1:46:10 PM
LOL - there were a lot of places like that A7 bar?, ABC NoRio (well - that place was fun), the place across from Max Fish
Francis 1:47:30 PM
