@ Tim (host) Richie Havens, Fairport Convention, Tim Buckley and Havens again. And rarely-heard tracks by these phenomenal artists. Wonderful, thank you.

glad your enjoying it richard- richie havesn was alsways a big fave of mind- used to see him live as much as possible before he passed

yeah his mid sixties live stuf is the pinnacle - have you seen his movie dont look back?

@ Tim (host) I'm right there with you on the very great Richie Havens. Y'know, I long thought -- based on his super serious, even ominous expression in the cover photo of his 1966 debut album Mixed Bag -- that he was one of the scariest dudes I'd ever seen. Then, around 1987, I interviewed him in person for a newspaper article. I came away with the impression that, although you wouldn't want to mess with him, Richie haven was a truly beautiful soul.

yeah - i met him after a show and he talked with use for at least 15 minutes under a street light - very cool guy

@ Tim (host) Yes for sure re: the xlnt Bob Dylan documentary Don't Look Back about his 1965 tour of Britain, photographed and directed by D. A. Pennebaker. Two thoughts: My journalistic colleagues (except for the gentleman from BBC Africa Service radio) are cringeworthy jerks. And Bob is charming, engaging - quite different from his later image as a suspicious, dark glasses-wearing enigma.

@ Tim (host) My understanding is, proceeds from the Philly Folk Festival funded the Ph Flk Song Society for the next year; but increased expenses later led it to run a yearly deficit. The Newport Jazz fest and then the separate Folk fest went away after gate-crashing problems there and national hi profile disasters (like the Altamont rock fest). Newport Jazz was reinvented in NYC. The Folk fest is back in Newport, where Joni Mitchell had a surprise appearance and major return triumph.
