@Brian D -- I remember that day exactly the same way! At the time, I was attending a private school as a day student but I remember going home early-ish (we had to wait for a parent from our carpooling team to be available) to watch the coverage on tv. John Hinckley was so delusional. He got the idea to impress Jodie from watching Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver'.

At the time, there was a TV show called Greatest American Hero, whose lead was named - Hinckley. They sure changed that fast
