Last Show For a While

What's up, weirdos. This is my last show on WPRB for a while. I'm traveling overseas for the next two weeks and I will be sitting out the Fall schedule to catch up on some other important work/life matters. I imagine I'll be doing some occasional fill-ins, but having been doing a weekly show non-stop since Covid started, I'm also looking forward to a break to let the creative batteries recharge. Stitching Pink fills in for me next week, and Number 6 the week after that. New WPRB schedule begins on September 7th. Bye!

Great/proud/humbling radio moment for me: Eons ago, talking up the Dirtbombs in a mic break and especially heaping praise on their vocalist Mick Collins for being the Coolest Guy Ever and then switching back to music and getting a phone call in the studio from... Mick Collins. Who'd heard the whole mic break while driving into a town with his band for a show that night.

(The 33 1/3 on Aja is probably THE best, most intelligent analysis of Steely Dan's music & lyrics ever. Re: Bobbie Gentry, my uinderstanding is that she'd had significant songwriting success even before her mega-hit "Ode to Billy Joe." And even then she was reclusive and elusive (perhaps wisely, given the insanity of music stardom).
