I normally despise people who brag about shows they saw, but here goes. At the Mann, around '82, in order of appearance, Duran, Duran, Bush Tetras, Third World, Split Enz, and Squeeze. That was fun.

brian d, you're correct about the sinking spring name. at one point they blew up a barn for the filming and it triggered many 911 calls because the residents did not know a show was being filmed.

I just went on setlist to check out the June 26th 1982 show at the Mann I mentioned. All they had was Split Enz played I Got You. Who couldn't possibly forget Too Many Creeps?

"College Radio" term in book most likely used as a genre not super literal (although understood that many people think WPRB is associated with the university) . The writer is about the age that would use that term.

It's a common misconception, for sure.

@ Mike Lupica (host) Not surprised that Rolling Stone readers would vote "Honey (I Miss You)" as a most-hated song. The original Bobby Goldsboro hit is really very touching, an old-fashioned "tear-jerker." I'm sure they hated admitting being emotionally moved by such a sentimental recording!

It's only funny if Joe deliberately mistook The Mamas and the Papas for The Beach Boys.

My wife is the undisputed lord of mistaking bands and artists for one another. She once called Dizzy Gillespie "Dizzee Rascal", John Fogerty "Dan Fogelberg", and when our daughter was little, she once asked me to pull up the clip of "Faust" on Sesame Street. She meant "Feist".

Joe knew and put the Beach Boys reference in there on purpose. It was a recent hit for BBs. Not a mistake. Alleged Joe said of the lyric there the kid in the song might not know that the orig version was Ms&Ps

The Faust episode is the rarest of forbidden Sesame Streets.

I would give several major organs to see Faust on Sesame Street.

Still weird to me that Feist was the real breakout artist of Peaches & Gonzales.
