once, I was about 14 or 15 cruising around with my friend who just got their license, we stopped at a random pool hall in feasterville. I ran in put a 5er in the juke and selected stairway to heaven 20 times then left.

Went to a campground in middle of New Jersey early 80s with a jukebox that had Ace Frehley "New York Groove "and a badly skipping Kinks "Superman ". Both played over and over

I caught the first hour of the lost in time and sub, it was massive and sent me off to rock and roll dreamscapes

The diner booth mini jukebox individual units in each booth were a fixture in 80s. They all had Sinatra "My Way" with b-side "Cycles" (a bad-good but better song) . And some had Neil Diamond "Kentucky Woman". That was a great single (covered by Rod Evans era Deep Purple)

one of my most played 45's is Errol Dunkley's version of Don't Make Me Over with Little Green Apples on the back, great 80's french meets reggae production

when I was a kid, I had the close encounters sound track and included was a 45 of a disco version of the alien communication song. I gotta check to see if that is in my collection, or still on the shelf at my parents house.

First record I ever bought was a 45 from The Stolen Roans in 1965. Something about Mick whining that he can't get any satisfaction.

I actually can't remember the first 45 I ever had. I was more of the "Shoplifting Cassettes" generation, only started getting into singles when I discovered punk rock/hardcore/DIY stuff in middle school.

But on that note, I will be playing a 45 of a song that WAS on one of my most cherished cassette metal albums at somepoint before I wrap up today.

I will admit the first 45 I bought with my own money was Kylie Minogue's Do the Locomotion. I was 5 and thought she was babe city.

Friends used to switch out the price tags on double albums at the Woolworths and put on $1 or $2 tags. They did not have the multi- piece "fall apart" security tags. Clerk was a nice middle aged to senior... no idea how much Physical Graffiti costs... Friends would then sell me the 12-15 dollarish double lps to me and others for about $6-7. Good deal.

Brian, that story should come with a complimentary cigarette and warm beer in the woods.

As for crime, back in the early 70's, there were five or six places that sold records near the Tower. A few of us would carry a bag from a nearby store with an empty cover in it with the bottom cut off, and slip it over the desired record. Not proud, but we were teenagers.

We are almost at the midpoint of Summer yup. I think right about Aug 4-6 each year. 45 or so days after solstice

I love that this is becoming a safe space for teenage crime confessions.

I had a good BMG scam going for awhile. Get the 12 for the price of 1 then "return" them to Barnes and Noble, they would just scan the barcode and give you what they sold them for which was the time of like $18 per cd. Then they give you a gift card, and the best part was that at that time I guess they were partnered with Amazon and you could use the gift card on Amazon for anything.

Yowza! Most people I know just ordered BMG under a name like "Harry Cretin" or some such.

I did that too, false names, but mostly so I could increase the B&N-> Amazon scam

A good brief run was the Maxxell tapes promo points deal. Collected so many points stickers i was able to get about s dozen cd's, a Sony cd boombox and many more blank tapes. For just a bit they'd let you write in any artist/ album title that you wanted if you had a certain set point amount of promo stickers. Single lp, double lp etc... then they later clamped down and limited it. First few cds were sent in the cardboard long box heh

Bobby Troup, who wrote Route 66 also wrote The Girl Can't Help It.

There's bootleg video of Brad G in band of that 82 tour after RR. Had to learn all the songs real quick. They did solo Oz songs too at the shows. But the lp included only Sabbath songs out of respect to RR. Brad was clutch player . Tough time

90s-00s Stones mini set part of show where they play in center of arena with stripped down band for 3-4 songs often included Route 66. Done well too. Just enough slop. 'Mats definitely drawing from the Stones version.
