Mike Lupica (host) 12:05:09 PM
THE LOOs MUST BE BOOGA'd.
Dale Hazelton 12:13:52 PM
hey now. got my ears on.
iamthelabhras 12:14:39 PM
Is it just me or is Lupica's radio patter consistently next level?
Kelly Nielsen 12:16:06 PM
George Jefferson moving to this Ibex Clone
Irwin Chusid 12:16:25 PM
Please don't tell my "colleagues" I'm here, Mike. Please?
Brian D 12:16:31 PM
Who, Mike BoogaLoopica?
Kelly Nielsen 12:17:12 PM
We'll be sneaking out for a breakfast burrito on the west coast
Mike Lupica (host) 12:17:14 PM
@Irwin, you've mistaken me for someone with an understanding of class n' tact. But delighted to see you here anyway.
Mike Lupica (host) 12:18:00 PM
@Kelly, don't skimp on the guac.
Mike Lupica (host) 12:18:36 PM
@iamthelabhras, I think it's you.
Brian D 12:18:47 PM
Ibex Clone opening for Perspex Triplet. Aphex Twin canceled. Doors at 8
iamthelabhras 12:18:55 PM
@MikeLupica...it usually is.
Dale Hazelton 12:19:36 PM
IRWIN! i tried to turn dave mandel on to the friday morning prog show here. don't know if he sampled it...
Dale Hazelton 12:21:03 PM
didn't sherman helmsley like nektar and gong?
Brian D 12:22:43 PM
Xen / Ken had a fine show today if such a show existed and another radio station existed in NJ and this morning existed... so many stars to line up. If the alternate universes are logged into the same network it may have happened.
Mike Lupica (host) 12:22:44 PM
@Dale, that was Harry Bentley you're thinking of. George was more into Nurse With Wound.
Brian D 12:24:48 PM
Just remembered an episode where Helen and Tom were dancing. Tom had this "square guy ultimate finger spin" move that had all the disco floors abuzz
Mike Lupica (host) 12:26:42 PM
Love how this song goes all Thin-Lizzy-Twin-Guitar-Leads here.
Francis 12:27:06 PM
LOL - Irwin is here. I expected FMU and PRB to be slightly incestuous
Mike Lupica (host) 12:27:32 PM
LIKE GOD, IRWIN IS EVERYWHERE.
Francis 12:28:54 PM
I think it was on Irwins show, that you used to play some crazy gypsy woman singing along out of tune. Does that sound familiar?
Brian D 12:29:00 PM
Have not heard Citay in a while. Their name is taken from the way rock singers pronounce the word "city " when singing. When the lights... go down... in the..
Brian D 12:29:16 PM
Not joking
Mike Lupica (host) 12:29:42 PM
@Brian, that's totally believable.
Jon Solomon 12:31:04 PM
Altin Gun at Union Transfer this Saturday night!
Mike Lupica (host) 12:31:52 PM
Prepare to throw the Anatolian Rock Devil Horns!
Brian D 12:32:04 PM
Ya I think I saw an interview from them back in 00s ( Citay)
Mike Lupica (host) 12:32:36 PM
Oops. Blew that segue.
Mike Lupica (host) 12:33:17 PM
Neil forgive me.
Mike Lupica (host) 12:33:27 PM
FOR I HAVE SINNED.
Brian D 12:33:38 PM
We slept on the Big Blood tickets speaking of woo foo moo. Ouch. Any leads on getting those now? That band is lovingly under a rock that's under a shroud that's under a tarp that's.. well outta the internet that i happen to use
Mike Lupica (host) 12:34:40 PM
@Brian, not that I know of, but in the (unlikely) event that I end up not being able to go, I will DM you to arrange a transfer.
richard lyons:) 12:35:26 PM
She had other plans "Got to go, and I know that you'll understand" I understand
Brian D 12:35:44 PM
Oh that's so nice to offer!
Mike Lupica (host) 12:38:21 PM
It's a long shot... like only if I get Covid or something, but will def keep it in the back of my mind.
Brian D 12:46:31 PM
Oh yeah totally. Hope you go

richard lyons:) 1:23:16 PM
Haven't heard this one for decades!
Brian D 1:23:34 PM
Dan McCafferty could belt it out. Proud of Dunfermline!
Mike Lupica (host) 1:23:55 PM
It's kind of the best and worst cover song ever at the same time.
Brian D 1:24:26 PM
Nazareth did some crazy covers
Francis 1:24:40 PM
I'm laughing, as I think I last heard this during my first week of HS back in 1980. At a all male conservative HS, and a kids cover band was playing this, and a kid in front of me was snorting loads of coke
Brian D 1:25:12 PM
There's a cheese 80s Ruby Tuesday from them. Some roller rink it worked in some galaxy
Mike Lupica (host) 1:26:36 PM
@Francis, that tracks!
Brian D 1:27:44 PM
Crazy Nazareth moment is there bored looking video for their own song Dream On (no relation). Bored band on a spaceship with a robot.. oh well lads we ran oota ideas innae? The kids like Star Wars..
Mike Lupica (host) 1:28:28 PM
@Brian, that sounds like every Aldo Nova video.
Brian D 1:28:37 PM
I still like most of No Mean City lp. Some good ones on that lp
Brian D 1:29:25 PM
Aldo shoots his laser and... rocks!
richard lyons:) 1:29:55 PM
Brian that Dream On video is hilarious
Brian D 1:31:12 PM
It's kind of cute in its own bored way. Cheese power ballad from them. But Dan scored with his vocal track i guess
Brian D 1:32:13 PM
Dan and Manny both passed last year from the classic lineup of Naz
Brian D 1:34:07 PM
Early George Clinton here!
Andrew G/ 1:34:36 PM

Seals & Mok 1:34:40 PM

richard lyons:) 1:37:29 PM
Mok, that is solid! Thanks for the link!
Francis 1:38:40 PM
NIrvana's Polly sounds like this sound
Francis 1:39:37 PM
nope - it's another song by them - same chord progression, which proly is fairly common
Brian D 1:40:01 PM
Good surf comp just heard about apparently it was a RSD 2023 release: "Surfin' the Great Lakes: Kay Bank Studio Surf Sides of the 1960s".
David Shortell 1:40:33 PM
I last saw Girl Trouble on September 26, 1998 at Acme Underground. They haven't returned to New York since.
Mike Lupica (host) 1:43:01 PM
@David, before today, I hadn't even *thought* about Girl Trouble since November 12th, 1994 when I heard them being blasted from someone's boombox on the other side of the parking lot I was in the process of throwing up in!
richard lyons:) 1:43:08 PM
Brian D, monster comp! I like the description 'surf & garage sounds from landlocked America'!
Brian D 1:44:30 PM
Ya writeup says it was a very important studio. The rekkid geeks gave it really good marks for sound quality and selections
Brian D 1:45:26 PM

:(
Seals & Mok 2:18:24 PM
10 studio albums and all i know is that song
Mike Lupica (host) 2:18:49 PM
I wasn't gonna play that one because it's technically a Prince song (even though her version is way better than his), but fuck it, I know that's the one everyone's gonna wanna hear in the wake of the sad news of her passing. Sometimes, you just play the hits.
Seals & Mok 2:20:07 PM
give the people what they want 👍
Mike Lupica (host) 2:20:21 PM
Aye.
Mike Lupica (host) 2:22:28 PM
When Michael Jackson died, an old colleague of mine was about to go on the air for his radio show. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of 60s and 70s soul, so I figured he'd go with Jackson 5 deepcuts as a way of paying tribute. He didn't. He broke the news, opened his show with Billie Jean, and it was perfect.
Brian D 2:27:32 PM
Someone in the Rolling Stone online Disqus comments about 10 yrs ago would sieze the opportunity anytime Sinead or Prince was mentioned in an article. They'd state emphatically how they loved HER song Nothing Compares.... and wasn't it so great that SHE wrote it for him etc. Harmless prank fun to bait the no sense of humor crowd who would post comments and "correct" this person. It gave me big smiles each time
Francis 2:27:38 PM
I was still a prof at UCLA when they brought Jackson in. Apparently his home doc kept trying to work on him so long trying to resuscitate him that he was cold and already in rigor mortis. That was a real crap show with helicopters flying overhead, and reporters everywhere
Brian D 2:30:03 PM
The prank commenter went by the name Jan Terri and either was OR assumed the role of the Chicago comedy music star of "Get Down Goblin" fame. Not sure if it was the real Jan... but they would just go back and forth getting a rise out of the Prince fans, insisting that Sinead wrote the song etc. RIP
Mike Lupica (host) 2:30:08 PM
@Francis. That is bonkers.
Patrick Rapa 2:31:26 PM
saw Jan Terri live once. that was a good time
Brian D 2:33:15 PM
Tim Maia always welcome when listening to wprb
Brian D 2:37:56 PM
I liked that song from the soundtrack the Edge did where Sinead sings ( Heroine). Someone at school taped that for me. I guess that was the first time I heard her voice but had no idea who she was. No credits were scrawled on the cassette sleeve. Good instrumentals on that too
Brian D 2:39:50 PM
Soundtrack to "Captive" that is
Dan Ruccia 2:40:37 PM
That what Radio Destructor is for
Patrick Rapa 2:40:52 PM
Well said, Mike
Mike Lupica (host) 2:41:59 PM
Thanks Patrick.
Mike Lupica (host) 2:53:17 PM
Thanks to y'all for hangin' out today. Meet ya back here next week.
Dan Ruccia 2:53:37 PM

iamthelabhras 2:53:49 PM
Thanks for another great show, Mike. Till next week.
