Join me each week as I attempt to create a perfect playlist for the most dramatic of cartoon villains. I will be blasting one song after another like the tired student that I am, finding ways to stay awake without fueling their coffee addiction.

Hello hello hello!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 3:11:29 PM
Good theme, origins of metal
Brian D 3:13:19 PM
Love that s-tron puts the artwork for Led Zep III instead of IV up there. I like III better anyway
Inci (host) 3:14:24 PM
Thanks, DTO! I was excited about today's theme -- and I agree abt LZ III artwork being better than IV lol
Brian D 3:17:23 PM
Spin the wheel... they issued some mini lp cover cd versions of Led Zep catalog bout 20 - 25 yrs ago (Japan releases I think). The copy of III had a working wheel just like the lp. Had to grab one on eBay back when everyone was selling their cd collections . Fun.
TAndy 3:22:26 PM
I AM IRAAAHH MAAAAAN
TAndy 3:23:45 PM
This show is already super sick, big ups Wired Academic!
Inci (host) 3:26:38 PM
Brian -- oh sick! Back home we have IV I think but not III
Brian D 3:26:54 PM
That vocal effect on Iron Man intro made me think of hearing Wesley Willis "Cut the Mullet" yesterday on Deirdre's show
Brian D 3:27:52 PM
I think the Physical Graffiti mini lp cover cd release had the "advent calendar"style cut out windows too
Inci (host) 3:29:01 PM
TAndy -- I'm glad hahaha been a while since I listened to Black Sabbath and oh yea HAHAHA I hadn't made that connection to Willis' song
Brian D 3:29:13 PM
Any Budgie lps available? The song "Breadfan" request if poss.
Inci (host) 3:31:42 PM
Yep yep I can do breadfan after this!
Brian D 3:34:53 PM
Thank you Inci!
Parrscream 3:36:09 PM
Hi Inci!
Inci (host) 3:37:29 PM
Hello Parrscream! And Budgie was a great choice thanks for the req!!
Bud Burroughs 3:38:02 PM
Cool choice, Brian. Haven't heard that song in a loooong time!
Bud Burroughs 3:41:12 PM
Actually, to be more general about it, I haven't heard any Budgie in ages.
Brian D 3:43:46 PM
Had fun teaching that Budgie one to the students in my few years as a gtr teacher. That and Crash Course in Brain Surgery. Both from the Budgie versions but Metallica did a fine job covering them and turning a bunch of people on to Budgie. A good thing
Brian D 3:45:15 PM
That hopefully put some pounds in Burke's pocket too. RIP
Brian D 3:46:06 PM
Jeff here going into the stratosphere
Brian D 3:48:07 PM
Can't hear Inna Gada... without seeing the Simpsons church organist freaking out
Bud Burroughs 3:51:31 PM
"In the Garden of Eden", by I. Ron Butterfly
Sasha Keen 3:57:39 PM
2/ Although these 3 bands (as well as others like Steppenwolf and Foghat) were in heavy roration on NYC FM stations...first on WNEW and then WPLJ... but, with the exception of IRON MAN, the newer bands that followed were shunned and got virtualy no airtime...in fact, I didn't hear or become aware of the later bands (Judas Priest etc) for years...on WNEW Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath were played only on Horror Host and DJ Zackerley's annual Halloween show.
Sasha Keen 3:58:10 PM
1/ A little backstory from someone who was there at the time (I even worked for CRAWDADDY!...the first true R&R Magazine back then) Anyway first came IRON Butterfly followed by LED Zeppelin and cemented By Deep Purple's MACHINE Head. It was these terms that the R&R press used HEAVY METAL as a 'dismissive' word because people saw this 'NEW' type of music as a step backwards in rock's evolution.
Brian D 3:59:40 PM
Oh dear! Yer ol pal Zacherle here...
Sasha Keen 4:01:18 PM
Yeah...I knew him...hung out with him at Chiller...he even phoned me once
Brian D 4:01:59 PM
Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom! And of course the Bouchard Brothers
Sasha Keen 4:09:02 PM
Bud Burroughs... "In the Garden of Eden"...we used to refer to it as "Ina-Gadda-zilla"
Brian D 4:09:21 PM
Cool hoping Saxon would be in the mix
Bud Burroughs 4:11:00 PM
Excellent alternative name, Sasha! I was also referring back to Brian's "Simpson" reference.
Brian D 4:13:09 PM
PAINKILLERRRRRR!!!
Brian D 4:15:10 PM
SHREDDZZZZZ
Bud Burroughs 4:16:16 PM
Underrated dual guitars in Judas Priest!
Inci (host) 4:16:39 PM
Finally the song that I was the most excited about in this playlist haha
Brian D 4:20:13 PM
Priest was always great about the guitar solo details in the album credits.
Sasha Keen 4:23:01 PM
OH... I forgot to mention BLOODROCK 2 "D.O.A." radio stations would not play the song because of its explicit, gruesome description of fatal injury and the use of SIRENS, out of concerns that the siren sound would confuse motorists...a HIT record that got virtually no airplay for years
Seals & Mok 4:35:33 PM
Sounds like metal to me. Much more so than led Zeppelin
Inci (host) 4:37:38 PM
Yep! That makes sense, Led Zeppelin is usually rock but has been one of the pioneers of both hard rock and heavy metal while these bands I am playing from come from the beginnings of heavy metal solidifying as a genre -- I tried to up the metal gradually lol
Brian D 4:41:10 PM
UP THE IRONS!
Seals & Mok 4:42:21 PM
Metal for me will always be jean jackets with iron maiden Metallica and Megadeth patches
Rofflestomp 4:43:41 PM
Omg, you found my kid's crazy uncle's mix tape. Died in a mosh pit in the 90's, but who couldn't see that one coming. :)
Brian D 4:43:45 PM
More Twin guitar
Seals & Mok 4:44:11 PM
Headbanger's ball anyone
Inci (host) 4:44:20 PM
That's definitely metal yeah, specifically thrash metal, though there are many other bands -- I recommends looking at speed metal, metalcore, and power metal if you like those!
Inci (host) 4:44:34 PM
And yes this is basically my dad's playlist almost lol
Rofflestomp 4:45:14 PM
LOL, cool dad. :)
Seals & Mok 4:45:35 PM
I traded in my teenage angst and metal for adult angst and punk
Inci (host) 4:45:39 PM
IKR he took me to a metal summer festival when I was 11 and I've been listening to metal ever since ;)
Inci (host) 4:46:19 PM
That's fair haha a lot of grunge and punk songs have elements of metal in them to the point where I consider them metal too!
Rofflestomp 4:46:48 PM
That is wonderful! Seriously!
Seals & Mok 4:47:08 PM
Thanks for the thought-provoking subject matter. We were arguing at the bar for at least an hour. My friend Rob was screaming MC5!!
Brian D 4:50:33 PM
Thought Blue Cheer might make an appearance at the begin roots stuff today.
Inci (host) 4:51:34 PM
Oh, I actually haven't listened to MC5 -- Blue Cheer would've been good too, honestly, there are way too many good bands that I couldn't include bc 2 hrs of show slot
Brian D 4:52:22 PM
Sir Lord Baltimore. Bang. Death (Detroit band) . So many. Need a few weeks of shows
Brian D 4:53:30 PM
Flower Travellin Band from Japan too. Their Satori lp is always fun to hear on wprb
Rofflestomp 4:54:16 PM
Wish I got in earlier. I love this stuff in blocks at a time sometimes. Have a good night Inci.
Rofflestomp 4:56:16 PM
@Brian, "Weeks of Shows" Indeed!
Chef Emeril Lagasse 🍳 4:56:26 PM
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘excellent selections, safe travels!
Inci (host) 4:56:36 PM
Thanks all for listening! I might make more of these and expand the origins a little bit since a good amount of these are thrash and heavy metal origins but doesn't quite cover all of it -- so @Brian might make another one indeed!
Inci (host) 4:56:40 PM
Thank you Chef!!
TAndy 4:57:00 PM
Today's show was super. Thank you, Inci!!
Brian D 4:58:35 PM
This is the song the kids from South America got to play with Megadeth using their homemade instruments from materials found at their town's trash dump. Great documentary on that story . Megadeth is only a part of it. The kids had a great innovative music teacher.
Brian D 4:59:41 PM
Olive oil drum cellos with forks as tuning machines / bridges and shoe heels fit tuning pegs etc..
Brian D 5:00:15 PM
Landfill Harmonic is the film
Rofflestomp 5:00:20 PM
Nice
Inci (host) 5:03:11 PM
@Brian -- oh wow I did not now that, I'll find that documentary now and download it to watch it during flight!
Inci (host) 5:03:19 PM
Have a nice rest of your day guys!
