Portuguese has more nasal and back of throat sounds. And softer consonant sounds.

One of the hardest sounds for americans to learn.

Nasal, thats a better word than gutteral

When I first started learning portugese people would make fun of me all the time for me "ã"s.

Try ordering bread in the morning without asking the waiter for his hard manlyhood.

Just thinking of Joao G because a "new" album came out this year (live recording from 1998 just him and his guitar and voice). Beautiful.

I guess they both must be used quite often to be so interchangeable!

Joao. Emphasis on the “J” almost like”ch” and French J…most mortals who are not from Brazil is very very difficult. But in my experience they appreciate it us trying. Great songs ❤️❤️❤️

Misty, best advice just "jump in the deep end" and speak with confidence. You do not need to apologize, state that you're going to mispronounce it etc etc etc. Just give it a try and let the words flow. And yes! Imitate what they sing in the song! That's the way

Mimicing what i heard in music and movies helped me a lot. Also confidence is 90 percent of it. Booze helps. Drink some cachaça and you'll be speaking like a pro

Exactly. Saying "I can't.." "I know I'll mess this up.." "Sorry in advance..." etc etc etc. They're all self fulfilling prophecies. Confidence is key

somehow all my training from public speaking class in 11th grade goes out the window when im on the radio!

They are two different languages that originated from Latin. You may see some similar words between them. Some have the same meaning, similar spellings etc. However, sometimes the similar words are not the same across the 2 languages.

@ Ossy Hi Ossy! Me, too, on new (to me) Stevie songs. Y'know, I was of course saddened (as we all were) by the passing of Aretha Franklin. But during the media covereage of her great life & career, I was keenly interested to learn rhat my personal favorite Aretha recording is a cover of a Stevie composition: "'Til You Come Back to Me, That's What I'm Going to Do."

@ Misty (host) In thanks for another super show, here's a hint on cooling your place (incl. your broadcast room) without running the AC during the show: Try opening all your apartment windows before the cool of the overnight. That will not only cool thew air but also the walls and furniture, which hold lots of heat. Then make sure to close thew windows in the morning before the temps rise. It should be enuf to cool for WPRB room for most of your 2-hour show.

Richard - For real, as well in sorrow of Tina Turner's passing. Wow, I never realized those songs of Aretha are covers of Stevie as well!!! In 2021 wprb fall season, on Summer Connection, got love for Stevie's "Power Flower" new to me. Some other philadelphia black station, named Classic Philly, aired his "Jesus Children and Golden Lady" on a rare Sunday!

Creepin from him, was sung together with Maya Rudolph's mother, Minnie Riperton!
