hiii everyone
Teresa P 3:17:23 PM
Hiiiii all!!! I love this 'Current 93'!
Teresa P 3:21:11 PM
I'd say more Kafka sifted through 'La Jetee' 's Chris Marker via Genesis (Breyer) P-Orridge
Harry (host) 3:21:30 PM
la jetee is brilliant
Harry (host) 3:22:30 PM
some of those pictures in that film are truly horrifying
Teresa P 3:22:32 PM
Yeah, agreed! I love Chris Marker's films generally. And the films of his BFF Agnes Varda too!
Harry (host) 3:22:50 PM
i've been meaning to get into varda!!! is there a place i should start
Gautham Kalva 3:24:57 PM
Excellent piece. Great job Harry(host), DJ Hog, Sara, and Chef Pat!. Good stuff..
Harry (host) 3:26:08 PM
thanks so much!!
Teresa P 3:28:00 PM
The Criterion Channel has almost all of Varda's films, including television series and interviews. Her films are so different from one another and all so great! I would start with her first film -- her contribution to the Nouvelle Vague -- 'Cleo from 5 to 7'. The Criterion Channel's collections are almost always organized chronologically and I think that's a good approach. Getting the Criterion Channel has been the best $100 we've ever invested in streaming media ... seriously!
iamthelabhras 3:29:12 PM
WPRB. Come for the Hog. Stay for the Ligotti.
Harry (host) 3:30:43 PM
i might have to purchase -- or i can just mooch off of my friend who has the criterion channel haha
Harry (host) 3:31:01 PM
i love ligotti -- making my way through songs of a dead dreamer right now!
iamthelabhras 3:32:08 PM
Me too, Harry! I finished _Songs of a Dead Dreamer_ last month. Rounding the corner on finishing _Grimscribe_.
Harry (host) 3:33:40 PM
which story was your favorite?
iamthelabhras 3:34:41 PM
There's a fairly good film adaptation of the first story in _Songs of a Dead Dreamer_, "Frolic" on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_-mv-Eo0io
Gautham Kalva 3:34:46 PM
Hey Harry (host) before you played uranium song did you by mistake play another track which starting by lyrics saying “ born on sunday beautiful ” or was it just the beginning
Harry (host) 3:35:30 PM
there were about 5 seconds of track 5 off of this same record
iamthelabhras 3:35:44 PM
My favorite from that collection? Hmm ... probably a toss up between "The Sect of the Idiot" & "Dr. Voke & Mr. Veech". If I had to pick I'd say "Dr. Voke & Mr. Veech" I guess.
Harry (host) 3:36:41 PM
haven't made it to those yet, excited to read those now
Harry (host) 3:37:48 PM
i think my current fav is "the frolic", that note that john doe leaves is so cool
iamthelabhras 3:39:14 PM
I enjoyed "The Frolic". I wish I had the $$$. I'd try & find someone online to make a reproduction of that blue sculpture John Doe makes & the wife buys & brings home.
Harry (host) 3:40:06 PM
omg. that would be perfect, it was like a baby's head right?
iamthelabhras 3:40:35 PM
Hmm ... it was something like that. Let me check the text real quick. One sec ...
iamthelabhras 3:41:40 PM
"Dr. Munck now plunged into that depth of sobriety which can only be reached by falling from a prior alcoholic height. He looked at the object. Of course he had seen it before, watched it being tenderly molded and caressed by creative hands, until he sickened and could watch no more. It was the head of a young boy, a lovely piece discovered in gray formless clay and glazed in blue. The work radiated an extraordinary and intense beauty, the subject’s face expressing a kind of ecstatic serenity ..
iamthelabhras 3:41:52 PM
... the convoluted simplicity of a visionary’s gaze."
Harry (host) 3:43:08 PM
such a great writer
Gautham Kalva 4:09:51 PM
Hey guys, not sure if you already have “Joe Frank” queued up?
Harry (host) 4:11:15 PM
:)
Wes Steenson 4:24:33 PM
Tom Waits’ respectful cover of Red Sovine’s Big Joe and Phantom 309. Red Sovine made a career of truck driving country songs and stories. Ironically he died after an auto accident in 1980.
Sugar Sidious 4:48:55 PM
This is wonderful
