John Kelly's exploits are commemorated in the famous Irish ballad Kelly the Boy From Killane written by Patrick Joseph McCall (1861–1919). Liam Gaul describes how McCall wrote the song to commemorate the centenary of the 1798 Rebellion, although it was not published in book form until it appeared in McCall's Irish Fireside Songs in 1911.

Hey Esoterica, hey Stevie P 👋
Esoterica (host) 12:04:10 PM
hey christine:)
Christine 12:04:12 PM
Rest in Peace, Alan Arkin.
Brian D 12:04:30 PM

uh oh, bri, and hii
Esoterica (host) 12:04:59 PM
love that movie, c!
Mike Lupica 12:06:35 PM
Lemme check out that calendar issue, Brian. Stand by.
Christine 12:06:57 PM
I have to re-watch it. There's such good chemistry between Alan and Peter Falk.
Esoterica (host) 12:07:10 PM
me, too, the best chemistry
Mike Lupica 12:07:37 PM
OK, that's fixed.
Esoterica (host) 12:07:54 PM
thx, mike!
Brian D 12:09:17 PM
Alan Arkin actually has some records out there. Good version of 900 Miles. Heard that on a comp
Esoterica (host) 12:10:09 PM
oooh, bri, need to cue that up
Brian D 12:14:23 PM
Aha... the comp on which I heard the Arkin song was Boom-A-Lay (Blues & Rhythm... etc) Vol 7. Racy lp sub titles and cover art but really crazy mix of tunes on that series from Stag-O-Lee records. A bit more polished stuff than say the Las Vegas Grind comps. But some similarity.
Dá Bəng Gôu 12:15:28 PM
Unfortunately our FM signal is still down due to transmitter maintenance this morning. Intonet Tube Musics continues on listen.WPRB.com

Esoterica (host) 12:15:54 PM
true, Da Beng
Christine 12:17:02 PM
Dark Entries 🖤🩶❤️
Brian D 12:17:15 PM
Or maybe it was Boom-A-Lay And Chug-A-Lug... etc. A collection from that Boom A- Lay series. That's probably the one i heard.
Patrick Blanco 12:17:58 PM
Alan Arkin won a well deserved Emmy for Yhe Love Song of Barney Kempinski. It was an ambitious but doomed Series called ABC stage 67.Lot of big name stars and classy programs.
Mike Lupica 12:18:08 PM
@Dá Bəng Gôu, latest prediction was that today's outage would be around six hours. We went off just after 8 AM today, so hopefully the tower crew will be wrapping up at around 2 PM. (At which point, FM should come roaring back like a bad rash.)
Esoterica (host) 12:19:36 PM
cool, patrick, i never heard of that series
Brian D 12:19:45 PM
Alan Arkin track then the track after is Dave Brubeck "Unsquare Dance" (pops up on soundtracks that finger snapping clapping Brubeck tune)... strange their placement amongst the sleazy unknown rarities in those comps. But it works somehow
Esoterica (host) 12:20:00 PM
ha sounds sublime, bri
Andrew G 12:21:28 PM
hello there!
Brian D 12:21:45 PM
Ya love that series. And on another universe, the Hillbillies from Hell series
Esoterica (host) 12:21:47 PM
howdy, andrew!
Brian D 12:22:36 PM
Wild wacky out there country, rockabilly, psych tinged and sometimes quite evil yet funny
Esoterica (host) 12:22:45 PM
love it
Patrick White 12:22:49 PM
ESO very obscure series with high ideals low ratings.Petula Clark Peter Sellers.Bobby Darin.Did a Marilyn Monroe special .A John Le Carre work
Esoterica (host) 12:23:15 PM
wowwww, sounds perfect for a lazy hot summer day in the AC, patrick
Brian D 12:23:27 PM
This Back Up Mex... comp great too. Dark Entries scored again
Esoterica (host) 12:24:09 PM
yeah isn't it sweet, bri
Andrew G 12:25:29 PM
i loved alan arkin as yossarian in catch-22. he was one of the greats
Mike Lupica 12:26:22 PM
Lots of love crackles on this Lee n' Nancy record! (Reminder to self: Bring in record cleaning brush for the Barge tomorrow.)😛
Esoterica (host) 12:27:04 PM
haha, thx, mike! but this may be beyond saving.
Colin 12:27:56 PM
hello and these crackles are a total vibe
Mike Lupica 12:28:00 PM
Try washing it with dish soap and warm water. I'm serious! I've done it to beat-to-shit records many times, and it does help. There's also the woodglue trick which definitely works but requires more of a time investment. (Also: wood glue.)
Christine 12:28:09 PM
Crackles ✨️
Esoterica (host) 12:29:51 PM
oh yeah, c
Esoterica (host) 12:30:12 PM
thx, mike, good tips!
Esoterica (host) 12:31:40 PM
i need to watch catch 22 again, andrew
Colin 12:32:51 PM
I'm gonna remember that tip as well. I just hooked up the stereo in my new domicile last night which means time for operation listen to the entire record collection (unrealistic goal but whatever) I definitely have some crackle to the max records in there.
Brian D 12:33:04 PM
Ya heard about that wood glue method. Sounds like a fun project. Anyone who has ever loved peeling off their previously sunburned skin should love that method. You put wood glue on the record surface, smooth it out by rotating it on the tuntable (one you don't care as much about heh) and using a flat object, letting it dry.... then peeling back the wood glue skin. Like those face cleaning pore strips, it digs deep and picks up the grime in the grooves
Esoterica (host) 12:34:24 PM
i love how this chat is archived so i can re-read for all these tips. and hi, colin!
Colin 12:37:39 PM
I have definitely re-visited archived chats of bits of information as well. WPRB, not only new jerseys only radio station, it is New Jersey's only good information station!
Stephen Higgins 12:38:55 PM
Hi Esoterica...great show. Loved that Buff Springfield song!
Mike Lupica 12:41:55 PM
@Brian, I've tried it with reasonable success on some *really* dirty James Brown 45s I scooped at a Brooklyn stoop sale years ago. It doesn't fix scratches, but your comparison to acne treatment is spot on (pun intended.) It pulls all kinds of gunk out of the grooves and yes, it is super satisfying to peel it off a la sunburned flesh (or Elmer's glue, for the more timid.)
Mike Lupica 12:43:25 PM
Good video of the process here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gyvipBs6Vs
Esoterica (host) 12:45:24 PM
thanks, stephen!
Dá Bəng Gôu 12:50:50 PM
Thanks you. Mike Lupica, "@Dá Bəng Gôu, latest prediction was that today's outage would be around six hours. We went off just after 8 AM today, so hopefully the tower crew will be wrapping up at around 2 PM. (At which point, FM should come roaring back like a bad rash.)"
