I'm back from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters conference with a bad case of jetlag, a belly full of convention center food, and more community radio station swag than you can shake a set of XLR cables at. Also, a bunch of great new records to spin for you on this criminally humid day. A great time was had and I'm so proud to have represented WPRB at this annual meeting of non-commercial broadcasting allies. Thanks to Sally, Lisa, Ernesto, Eva, David, Becky, Téa, Freddie, Herb, and all of the other fine folks I spent time with last week. Hey Mike, enjoyed the empty Scooby Doo towns comparison to Denver.

@Colin, that's only the first day's haul! All of those (and many more) are now pasted up here on the equipment rack in the Barge.

@DSM, thanks! Very weird vibe. I did feel like I could live there, which is not something I usually say about places that aren't NJ or NYC.

I have a large frame with plastic surface, picked up at a thrift shop and contained a giant Lamborghini poster or something, that I use as a sticker surface that can be re-curated to different locations around the home.

I haven’t been in like 15 years. I think Neil Michael Hagerty calls it home these days?

I really dislike Genesis but I have always loved this song. Got a stern talkin' to years ago my the store manager of at an allnite grocery store who didn't like the fact that I appeared to be "rocking out" (his term) in the frozen foods sectio while listening to it on my iPod.

What a frozen lump your manager was

As you can see, "rocking out" is still affecting my ability to spell and assemble a coherent sentence.

Also, I was merely shopping, not working. I only work in places where rocking out is tolerated, if not encouraged.

I hope that guy has thawed out since then!

I somehow convinced many of the high schools in Montana to hire me to DJ dances. Abacab was a favorite.

Pretty much the last Genisis album that had elements that I liked.

I ran into Mike Rutherford at LAX he sat his suitcase down for me to get a picture of him a bed sheet was sticking out and in the photo it looks like a kilo of blow was pouring out onto the floor. They were real good that night in L.A.

I just listened to Fancy's "Wild Thing" and I dimly recall having heard it when it was on the charts. I'm now on to their other US hit "Touch Me" and I have no recollection of ever having heard it.

I definitely saw them there, but I don't think it was that show. (Because that sounds like something I would remember.)

Jen, IIRC you were the one who ran out and bought a copy of the Pitchfork LP for PRB's stacks after Drive Like Jehu got real big here!

Pitchfork was one of my all-time favorites, so that makes sense. It was a critical gap! Nice when it was reissued later as well.

Pouring some out for that Pier Platters re-rock cheddar right about now.

Found some photos from when Obits recorded at WPRB, in typical "me" fashion no pictures of the actual band playing but one shot I wish was less blurry of an Obits road case in front of an Audit In Progress poster.

I lost track of Hot Snakes after their first album, never got to properly investigate Obits. Lots of catchup homework on my plate.
