It's Monday Morning. It's June. It's a new schedule. It's cephalopod radio. Hiiiiiiii!!
TAndy 10:01:06 AM
Time for the summer ocktuhpuß
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:11:04 AM
Hey TAndy!
Dale Hazelton 10:16:28 AM
morning. this is pretty epic. and hazlewood is always a treat.
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:23:16 AM
Morning, Dale! Epic certainly describes all of Eastman's music. I'm excited for this full disc to come it. The other 2 pieces on it should be equally expansive
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:23:43 AM
Here's Wild Up's page on their Eastman series, with lots of great resources about the music: https://eastman.wildup.org/resources/
Parrscream 10:33:42 AM
Good morning Dan!
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:37:42 AM
Hey Parr!
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:42:50 AM
This feels like if you took the Shotakovich cello concerto and slowly melted it

It’s great to hear music that steps out of the 12-tone scale.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:43:58 AM
Especially when it’s made to sound good, not just “sour”.
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:44:35 AM
It sounds like Carrillo's theories about temperament were totally wild, constantly self-contradictory, and super inventive. There's at least one recording out there of a concerto for that 99-key piano that spans a single octave. It's super intense
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:45:35 AM
There are a bunch of recordings (including this one) available here: https://sonido13.com/index.php/julian-carrillo-70/
Dan Ruccia (host) 10:48:10 AM
I also highly recommend Kate Molleson's "Sound within Sound" to learn more about him: https://www.abramsbooks.com/product/sound-within-sound_9781419753565/

Thanks for the link.
deirdre dionysiac 11:02:39 AM
"Sheets of lacerating noise" was a nice descriptor.
TAndy 11:03:15 AM
Oh wow I did not know there was a new Orcutt release!
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:04:05 AM
He's got a couple right now. In addition to this, there's also a gorgeous acoustic guitar album
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:04:25 AM

Dan Ruccia (host) 11:04:59 AM
Thanks, Deirde! It's funny to think about how far Oructt's music has evolved since those days
TAndy 11:06:19 AM
Thank you for the link, Dan. I'll be downloading that and/or the Anxiety of Symmetry release off Bandcamp for my travels this week
Parrscream 11:10:49 AM
Hey dierdre and DTO! Looking forward to your shows this week as well!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:14:48 AM
Thanks, Parr. but I hope you are not losing sleep by getting up early.
Parrscream 11:21:51 AM
What is sleep? My twin daughters have made that word pretty much obsolete for me, ha ha!
Parrscream 11:25:06 AM
Getting a Lindstrom Little Drummer Boy vibe from this song right now
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:26:17 AM
Ha! I hadn't thought about that, but it's those same arpeggios!
Parrscream 11:29:30 AM
I loved that song. Going to give that full album a listen.
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:31:03 AM
Do it. It's great!
TAndy 11:31:35 AM
Back once again. And again, Lucy Liyou delivers!
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:36:58 AM
There's apparently a game associated with this album? https://lucyliyou.itch.io/dogdreams
TAndy 11:37:47 AM
Ooh! Thanks!
TAndy 11:41:10 AM
This show is so intense today, my god 😍
Marcus Watt 11:47:34 AM
Two Dans are better than one. And I thought Jude was obscure.
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:50:02 AM
I appreciate the double Dan double dip radio block
Mike Lupica 11:51:41 AM
Kinda thought this was Oxbow, but no, just another terrifying band of the same era.
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:53:20 AM
Definitely has Oxbow energy. Apparently the first new Khanate in like 15 years?
TAndy 11:53:33 AM
Heya Mike!
Marcus Watt 11:58:04 AM
Mike Lupica in daytime? That will be different.
Dan Ruccia (host) 11:58:12 AM
The spider is us. Thanks for listening, y'all!
